Cates' Hulk had the misfortune of following Immortal Hulk. While Immortal Hulk felt like the stressful interview for your dream job, Cates' run was more like the first round of beers you buy your buddies after landing it. It's unfortunate he didn’t get to finish his vision.

The art in that volume is amazing. I especially like the covers by Gary Frank. It's worth owning if only for the visuals. Hopefully Donny gets well soon.

Dude. Great job keeping an open mind about a comic. I had a bad initial impression as well. I bought the first four books and it just wasn’t my thing. I did love the massive fights in it. But spaceship hulk was just a little too out there for me.

Galactus looks like the hulk because whatever race sees Galsctus looks like that race. Like if a skrull seen him he looks like a skrull.

Thank you, good sir, for making the review a month earlier than the release date! I heard a lot of negative stuff from people about this run, but the artwork from Ryan Ottley is peak for me, so I am definitely picking this up!

First run I read after getting back into it after 30 odd years. Loved this run haha especially the thor battle, wished the run kept going. So much hate after everyone hyping immortal hulk which I havent read but omni's on its way(BooM)

I’m definitely getting this. I’m willing to give it another chance. Maybe it’ll read better as a collected edition. I liked the BANNER OF WAR stuff, but this wasn’t what I was expecting from Donny.

I actually thought the same thing in the first couple issues but then enjoyed it as I kept going along. Didn’t love the ending as well but overall it was a fun action packed story. Bummed Cates isn’t still making stuff that I can read consistently

I think it’s super important to note that Donny cates was never able to finish his hulk and Thor run due to being in a very very serious car accident to the point he got amnesia and lost all his memory for the past 6 months of his life before the accident. Donny was never able to fully write his vision first both Hulk and Thor.

I have the trades. I might or might not get the omnibus. I'm kind of on the fence. I think the run has a lot of interesting ideas, and I probably would've liked it a lot more if it was about some new character and NOT the Hulk, but it just doesn't feel like a Hulk run. It doesn't feel like Donnie Cates understands at all how the Hulk is supposed to work. I guess the beginning issue (not included in the trades) explaining how Hulk became a spaceship MIGHT make it better. I'm not sure. I loved the Donnie Cates Venom omnibus, but this was a really weird run for me.

Might just be we have distance from immortal hulk now. As a follow up to that this was incredibly disappointing and there was a real concern that hulk was going to abandon its newfound horror tone. None of this is a concern now which probably helps this run read better tbh

Man this series is a incredibly hard sell for me,I thought it was complete trash....the newer series by Johnson is excellent. I read the first four issues of Cates Hulk hated it so much I canceled hulk from my pull list.

The immortal hulk run was ruined by the injection of modern politics in later issues. Nothing takes you out of a story more than having a diversity hire lecture the hulk about white privilege. Cates run couldn't be worse. Could it?
