Continuing the topic at 4:48 A few years back, when I was driving with my dad, we called my grandma (dads side) to ask what life was like in the 1920s-30s (my grandma was born in 28') and here is a transcript of what I can remember she told us. After I was born, I lived in a box car next to the railroad for a few years down in New Braunfels, Texas. The box car had a kitchen, sleeping area, and bathroom all in one. Once I got older and the economy changed, we moved into a house and started school. I did great in school and was the valedictorian. I got married at 20 and had 2 kids. After years of realter work, my husband died and I had to move on. I married my 2nd husband (my grandfather; also dead) and adopted a few kids, whilst also having your dad around 15 years later. After everyone (9 kids i believe) grew up, I retired and stayed in New Braunfels up until now. My father was born in 1965 and is the youngest of 9 kids. He and more than half of his adoptive and blood siblings are in the medical field. My grandmother didnt go into much detail since dementia has pretty much taken her over. She is in a nursing home right now about a 15 minute walking period from me right now. She is one of the most kind people I have ever met. The worst she has said in front of me is "damn" Which I find pretty insane since society has changed so much. We are going to move her to this really big nursing home that makes sure she will be okay with medicare and all that soon. Sadly the only memory of the beginning of her life is quickly fading and since there is no other memory of it except me, and anyone who reads this. Im sure my dad has forgotten about this experience but its okay. *TRUE ANSWER TO ORIGINAL QUESTION* My grandma said she would kick rocks, play with sticks, and clip this patch of grass with these tiny scissors her mom had. They were something like those small eyebrow scissors if anyone knows what i am talking about. Anyway I have to go to this writing contest in an hour so yeah have a good day.

Gen Alpha is genuinely cooked, imagination in childhood is EVERYTHING and these kids that are consuming media over and over. They won't be able to think critically from what it seems. And as member of the Gen Z generation, we had technology, bitch we had iPads, but it wasn't shoved in our face. The fucking races of water on windows during car rides or counting things is an example. Boredom is important in a childs life, because of the fact that when you have nothing, a young imaginative kid is still faced with so much to do just because a kid can think of so much.

Joe… yes 👏 I loved this vid, it was so true and as a high schooler who goes to Socratic seminar classes for two hours a day I completely agree that it is essential to learn how to constructively argue with others so that everyone can come to a consensus. Instead of everyone holding their own opinions stubbornly, we really discuss and have open minds, and admit when we were wrong and can see the truth that way. Opinions are not knowledge, knowledge is true, opinions are not always true.

Nah Joe spit some facts right before 20:10 I’ve seen it many times before where people just avoid others because they don’t agree with the other person’s beliefs. 11/10 yap session

Even though there wasn’t really a moment where I didn’t have technology, I still didn’t really use it when I was young and just played with toys or played out with the neighborhood kids outside.

I was born 2011 and I have never had a phone or any other device until a year ago unless you count an old flip phone they gave me to talk with them when I was at friends houses. I grew up watching most of the shows from the early to late 2000s. I can’t believe how some of the kids around me have developed. Half of the kids in my class already have Fs in the first week just cause they didn’t turn in a syllabus cause they “have better things to do” They can barely hold a conversation without trailing off to something else. Wish I was born a little sooner.

One of the things I've noticed, from when I was a kid up to now is really just how when I was a kid and you know I'd get on the school bus here at UT some kids' phones and they might be a tad bit engaged but not like they're looking at it all the time now. It's like you know you see kids on the school bus just completely engrossing their phones. No one's talking. That. Just sad. Has anyone else noticed this?

Dude, i was born in 92. I remember having phone books, VCRs, cassette tapes, vinyl records, and home phone landlines. Dial up internet in the country was dogwater. I lived on a farm so i spent lots of time outside. That world is gone. It's like a myth now. I feel like an old relic from a bygone era.

I must say, despite my young age, I still have a decent grasp of life before the internet. This is a direct consequence of my earlier years as I child. While I am currently a teenager, but I didn't have access to an iPad or really any electronics until I was like 9. I used to spend more time outside playing with the kids in my neighborhood, and living like a ancient Greek. But nowadays, I have resigned from that lifestyle, and I spend a huge part of my day behind a computer or sipping tea whilst reading my favorite of books. Though, I am still very grateful to have witnessed a time where I playing outside was a form of entertainment.

I am a bit younger (I’m 13) and I had my first tablet at about 6, I was only allowed 15 minutes of educational videos per day. My parents did a great job and did so much research to make sure that they raised a good kid.

i was born in 04, i had access to a xbox, pc, and a phone pretty early on but a lot of my memories from when i was a kid was stuff that wasnt internet based, the internet was more of a side thing for me when i was younger and a majority of my memories come from hanging out with people, going to fun places, or watching my favorite cartoons before school in the morning. the only thing i can remember fondly that was on the internet was watching jacksepticeye, markiplier, and pewdiepie when what i believe was their prime. Also watching the evolution of vr as it got more advanced cause i was super fascinated with it
