I have to say that the candy necklace was what got me through the SATs. I'd totally forgotten which Saturday they were scheduled for, had far too much fun the night before, then had to be drug out of bed by one of my besties who handed me a coffee, a candy necklace, and some #2 pencils and shoved me into a classroom! FACTS!!! Hilarious walk down memory lane 🤣🤣🤣 I remember my sister and I walking down to the corner store to pick out our candy with the $2 we were given and we both left with a little paper bag filled with all those candies she mentioned. The hardest part was deciding which ones to eat first and then of course there was trading the candy with each other when we were nearing the end of our stash. I loved the Bazooka gum for the comics 😛( the gum was crap) and can’t forget the Fun Dip!

Bazooka gum was awesome! Same with the gum that came in the baseball cards. My Dad collected the cards and we kids would help open them and split the gum.

I was born in 1978, toward the tail end of Gen X. I remember all these candies, but most of them seemed kind of dated to me, even in the late 80s. Candy cigarettes were getting hard to find by the time I was old enough to ride my bike to the store by myself.

I'm 66 and ate all that stuff. Probably after a breakfast of Lucky Charms or Captain Crunch and Tang. Having had so many Jolly Ranchers, Looks, Big Hunks, Sugar Daddy's and Abazabas I am surprised I have any fillings, or teeth for that matter, left in my head! Penny candies then would cost me 45 bucks now! Ah the reckless good old days.

RIGHT!!! She's not wrong!!! 😂My cousin Tommy found what he thought was a better use for Pop Rocks. He mixed it into their big Tom cat Toby's litter in his litter box, he smiled at me raising his eyebrows up and down and said, "Now we wait!" 🤣 Toby the Tom cat had NO sense of humor about it. He took off like a shot! Tommy is 4 months older than I am, we're both 57 now. Did I mention we're both redheads? 😈 ~ APRIL LIPKE

Poor kitty! Anyone reading this, please don't do this to your cat(s) It can cause litterbox avoidance which leads to inappropriate urination outside of the box and, since cats don't *want* to be "bad" by peeing and pooing outside the box, they will hold their pee until they can't anymore which can lead to urinary tract infections which leads to more inappropriate peeing and ultimately, the cat either gets tossed out of the house, gets thrown into the pound, or the worst, gets euthanized because the owners don't realize that they caused it all. I'm sorry if you think I'm being a downer or being harsh but I've seen this happen more than you'd think. I don't think your cousin was doing this out of abusive thoughts, heck I bet it would be funny to someone who doesn't realize how much it affects the cat, but please don't encourage anyone to do this! 😢

@@Kaemea OMG! That was almost 50 years ago. My cousin and I were all of 9 years old at the time that happened. For the record, I do NOT like cats at all - BUT - would never hurt one because I don't like them. I don't want any pet in my house that jumps up on my kitchen counters, dining room table, etc. because of the fact they use a litter box. And ALL cats do that, I don't care whose pets they are. I have many friends that have house cats, and no matter how spotlessly clean their home is, I can still smell the odor of a litter box. Still, as an adult, I would NEVER go out of my way to hurt any animal just because I don't like it. The only "house" cat I would ever want would be a Savannah or an Ocelot. Why? Because their behavior is akin to that of dogs and we're dog people. If cat owners loved them as as they all claim to, rather than letting them have one litter right after another, then just dropping weened kittens off out in rural areas ASSUMING "someone will take them in as farm cats, which they DO NOT (AND YES KITTENS ARE DISCARDED IN THE COUNTRY CONSTANTLY, WE LIVE IN THE COUNTRY AND WERE BOTH RAISED IN THE COUNTRY), leave them in boxes or place ads saying "FREE TO A GOOD HOME", which is just ridiculous considering you don't they'll be taken care of, YOU WOULD HAVE YOUR FEMALE CATS SPAYED. Since you wanted to be so serious, the sad, cruel reality about dumping ANY family pet, whether it be kittens, puppies or adult dogs is this - they are either hit by vehicles, eaten by coyotes, some adult dogs assimilate and become part of the pack, or they die from STARVATION. There are much larger issues for family pet owners than for two 9 year old kids being ornery little assholes at the expense, one time, of the family house cat. We weren't the perfect as kids. NO ONE IS. ~APRIL LIPKE

@@jameslipke354 Oh April, I knew your post was talking about something that happened a long time ago. I think I referred to it in my post. But know that I was NOT calling you out. There are some crazy folks out there that would find it to be a funny joke but, as you can see, for the cat it can be life or death. Again, I know you were referencing something from a long while ago. I didn't believe for a millisecond that you would ever harm an animal. I am a cat lover and an advocate for our wee beasties. I regularly help at shelters and sanctuaries with programs on why it's necessary to spay and neuter. I help with TNR, trap, neuter, return, programs to help colony cats get speutered, vaxed, and tipped. I talk with anyone who wants to adopt cats, I give info and helpful tricks to make adjustments easily. If litterbox odor is a problem for you, you might want to rethink your dream cats. Those two breeds can get super stinky. Savannahs also need their guardian to be licensed to own one because they are still pretty much a wild animal. There are smaller breeds that are also quite doggish in personality. I haven't slept in about 38 hours so I can get back to you on that. Cats can be trained to not get on counters and tables. None of my current cats even try for either. Like I said, I know tons of tricks for training our feline buds. I, too, live in the country and have taken in a fair share of kittens, Mamas, and Daddies. I'm lucky to have vet friends who will speuter for $5 or so. Then it's off to adoption events. You might be surprised to learn that most cat "drop off" stunts are done by dog people whose kids wanted a cat but wouldn't make them an indoor only feline. Speuter and indoor only, and NO DECLAWING, are the things I demand from potential adopters. They must sign a legal document stating that they will abide by the rules and, if they can no longer care for the cat(s), they must bring them back to me. So, long post short (too late!) I know you were talking about something that happened years ago but my cat loving heart can't help itself and I have to do the talk. I am a feline adorer. I like dogs too though I don't have the stamina to care for one properly. So no dogs for me anymore. I miss having Black Labs. They're so cool.
