That's why I'm pretty selective as to which reactors I'll watch. Some reactors are fairly lowkey and that's fine but there are also many reactors that are performative much more than genuine. They tend to get more performative when they attain a high subscriber count. It's like they've switched to a personal brand performance rather than an average joe first time movie watcher. Fun fact: Jackie Chan was still learning to be fluent in English while filming. So when he said that word, he had no idea the connotation behind it. When Chris Tucker reveal the definition of the word, Jackie Chan swore to never say it ever again and apologized. Kind of messed up to make someone say that, but the scene is hilarious and pure gold.

As a black guy i find this scene hilarious. But we could never do it today with how sensitive people are now. But when it comes to the word im kinda in the middle in terms of opinion. On one hand i like that we took a dark part of our history and flipped it into something positive. One the other hand i get why some people are confused about how only blacks can use it but no one else. Kinda like how women can call each other the B word but when a guy does it its offensive. Idk im kinda conflicted tbh.

Growing up white in MA, I’ve mostly heard blacks referred to as “The brothas”, referring to working class fellowship. But I’ve heard that word used in hateful ways, like we were smoking a blunt and one dude we were with said, “Hey, Reggie, don’t you lip it”, indirectly calling him the N word. As a white dude with biracial family members, I hate the word, but only when white people use it

There is a huge difference between an Asian and a black man saying "what's up my n.... ". To a black man who might respond not friendly to the Asian guy who's not his brotha. Society hit rock bottom because of ignorance. This example is just staged and does not reflect real life in which gnorants worship an orange cult leader. This is rock bottom.

She once use the word "negro" to describe a car while outside with other neighbor, two Black teen got all offended and wanted to fight her, a frail old women in her late 70s. By the time I explained to their mom what was happening, they've assaulted the old grandma. The old lady's 4 grandkids, in turn, beat the stupid out of the Black kids. The Black mom, a college professor, decided that her kids were taught a valuable lesson in cultural diversity and was ok with the outcome. Great parent!

The one thing a lot of people missed was the actual pronunciation of the way "Carter" was saying the word is different from the way it's typed on screen for the subtitles. He pronounces it ending with an, -a, and not an, -er. So when the Carter character instructs the Lee character to, "Say what I say and do what I do", right before entering the bar, Lee was just following Carter's instructions. If you're still offended, I'm sorry but this is how "chill" they were back in the late 90's to early 2000's; if you wanna blame someone, blame the one/s who did the subtitles. Also, let's not forget how "racial" the Carter character was towards the Lee character in their first meeting, yet both characters as well as the actors that portray them, become the closest of friends despite being from two different backgrounds and cultures.

The joke and bit are funny until you learn that Bret Ratner, the director of the, film purposefully mislead Jackie Chan while directing the scene as Jackie was not familiar with the English lines. Jackie later went back to ask Ratner what it was that he was saying that elicited such a strong response from the bar men so as to make them want to fight. Upon the revelation that the word was such an oppressive word Jackie became disgusted and enraged warning that he never be misled into saying such filthy things like that ever again. I worry that the director didn't end up doing the same thing for the scenes in RH2 where Lee is telling Carter about what "Dirty movies" he likes to watch.

I can't figure it out if people really became this sensitive or if the react channels just overreact for the content.

The scene it completely fine, although I am really annoyed that whoever put the subtitles put it with an "ER" when thats not even what Lee said. He said it because carter told him to only do what he did. Carter said it with "ga" so Lee also said it with "Ga". Subtitle person was on one when he wrote it lol.

People getting mad at this definitely should NOT watch Tropic Thunder. Another one of my favorites. That movie is hilarious

Having not lived in America and before social media was a thing, that scene had me wondering for many years why they got mad at Jackie Chan said.

Yep. Tarantino can use the word hundreds of times between two of his movies, and today's crowd doesn't bat an eye, because they look upon him as very cool. But let someone else use it, and watch heads explode, watch someone choke on their drink, or it's grounds to ban that movie. So sad where a lot of society is now.

And actually, this unfortunately, is mainly how our society is. Some words can be said by some, but not others. It is where we sadly are now.

I don't know why people think it's this sudden thing that some people can't say some words. Maybe learn about history and taboo words. It's been a thing since humans existed.

In all fairness, Jackie (who admitted to not knowing what he was saying) was probably saying 你个 as he's chinese. Literally, Nǐ gè - meaning you and not what the subtitles are telling you.
