I heard it so much I almost can’t stand it.. kidding, I still think it’s beautiful and brings a lot of nostalgia whenever I hear it, but maybe a little overplayed.. still a timeless classic though. John Lennon was a visionary, his creativity and vision was inspiring. Of course, he wasn’t a flawless human being, you would find out pretty quickly if you do some research, if he was alive today in today society he would be cancelled 100% lmao, but he also did a lot of good. He could be cruel and mean, his own band mates said so (George said “he was a great person, and I loved him, but sometimes he was a bastard” I’m paraphrasing but it was something to that effect)but at least he was trying, and he advocated for peace, always. I really respect that, and his growth as a person, unfortunately he was negated the right to atone completely and make peace with all the people in his life by the person that shot him. John and George weren’t on speaking terms when he was killed, they both wanted to reconcile, but then, they never could.

Fundamentalists have a problem with "Imagine no religion". They get mad because they WANT to be mad. They're angry about a song about PEACE. *Imagine* that.
@x_trio_3_po3334 ай бұрын
That's very ironic since Lennon in the song presupposes the reality of the existence of both Heaven and Hell, and then tells the listener to "imagine" that they don't exist. So for Lennon, Heaven and Hell are very real places. Just like what fundamentalist Christians already believe. And there's nothing wrong with offering a hypothetical idea that they don't exist, just so long as the presupposition of their reality is accepted. The other irony is that Lennon is "imagining" a peaceful place where no wars or greed or hunger exist. Um, isn't that called Heaven? So Lennon wants the listener to "imagine" that there's no heaven while proposing an alternative which sounds exactly like Heaven! I know Lennon is trying to oppose the dichotomy of Heaven and Hell, but only offering a similar "heaven" in its place. But if we imagine a world without a place such as Hell, then what about the need for eternal justice against evil men like Hitler, and Stalin, and modern serial killers, and child killers? Surely they deserve a punishing place called Hell rather than Lennon's alternative imaginary heaven.

@@x_trio_3_po333 Since Lennon followed Eastern mythologies we certainly would not be presupposing any Christian heaven, however, it is clear in the song that he is using the concepts metaphorically, so it really doesn't matter whether he thinks they are real or not. The fundamentalists, however, had hated Lennon since the 1960's when he flippantly said that the Beatles were more popular than Jesus. He was probably correct at that moment in time, but fundamentalists are uninterested in reality and considered Lennon an agent of Satan from that point on, and any song by him that mentions any spiritual concepts was going to be viewed by them as inherently evil and evidence of his supposed pact with Satan. It is irrelevant to fundamentalist interpretations of the song, but I take issue with you characterisation of Heaven and Hell as being reasonable concepts. The idea that it is in anyway desirable to spend eternity with family members that improved the life of others by dying is abhorrent. Spending an eternity with a god and Jesus that are (according to Biblical stories,) horrible people is a nightmare to contemplate. Jesus is a misogynist who supported slavery and taught that disease is caused by demon possession, and Yahweh was guilty of genocide and murder, and he ordered child sacrifice, gave the justification for racism, and failed to give life saving information, like the germ theory of medicine. If there is a heaven, I want no part of it. As to Hell, what makes you think Hitler would be there? He was a Catholic who wrote glowingly, in Mein Kampf, of how his Christian beliefs sustained him during his struggles. Since acceptance of Jesus is claimed by fundamentalists as the path to salvation, it seems that Hitler may well qualify for Heaven, while an atheist volunteer at soup kitchens who spends their life helping the poor will be punished by eternity in the fires of Hell just because they didn't accept Jesus. Does not seem like a very just system to me.

@@artistjoh Lennon did not "follow Eastern mythologies". You have clearly confused him with George Harrison. But I do appreciate you calling them "mythologies". You should listen to his 1970 song called "God" where he specifically rejects belief in "Buddha", "I Ching", "Gita" and "Yoga". Lennon clearly asked his listeners to "imagine" that Heaven and Hell do not exist, a hypothetical which obviously implies the very opposite which means that for him that they do exist. Otherwise what's the point of "imagining" the contrary? Yes Its true that American Fundamentalists hated Lennon since 1965 for his outspoken comments about Christianity. (British Christians didn't seem to care). And its equally true that Lennon's observation that the "Beatles were bigger than Jesus" was correct at the time. Beatlemania had swept the Western world in popularity. Southern Fundamentalists in the U.S. had over-reacted to The Beatles by wrongly burning their records. This is not the place to debate Heaven and Hell. I was only pointing out that Lennon's use of attempting to "imagine" their non-existence, inescapably implies their existence. IOW Lennon is saying Heaven and Hell exist, but let's imagine that they do not. But ends up proposing an alternative universal "Brotherhood of man" kind of heaven. The kind where everyone is on the same plane of existence and united with each other, with no one deserving of Hell. Historically, this is known as "Universalism". A nice fantasy. But does the average person want to be universally united with everyone? And I mean everyone. Hitler, Stalin, School Shooters, Child Rapists, Neo Nazis, Cannibals, Incest and Beastiality advocates? Jesus a misogynist? The same Jesus who prevented a woman from being wrongly Stoned to death from the Pharisees? And Jesus had no slaves that I'm aware of. BTW the use of "slavery" in ancient times is far far different than how we perceive it to be today. And nothing in Christianity teaches racism, but rather the very opposite. But I fully understand that you don't want any part of Heaven. What about John Lennon's imaginary "heaven"? You seem to want that judging by your praise of this song, even though, as Lennon himself says, his "no heaven" place is only imaginary. So you think that Hitler "qualifies" for Heaven? Good luck with that. Because no Fundamentalist believes that. If Hell exists as Lennon obviously believed it does (He briefly converted to Christianity in 1977 by watching Televangelists like Pat Robertson, Billy Graham and Oral Roberts.) And also him watching the 1977 film, "Jesus of Nazareth". Also a few weeks before his murder he had been reading The Gospels. This was reported by the Detroit News. Though he did have a rather up and down relationship with Christianity in the 1970's. As for you questioning the Justice of God. Maybe you should try reading The Book of Job. That addresses the very issue you seem so angry and emotional about. An easier book is "How Can a God of Love Send People to Hell?" by John Benton. But if Hitler is not in any Hell then his suicidal death in 1945 gave him an easy escape from any punishment or judicial reckoning. And the millions of Jews and others who had suffered at his hands receive no justice for his heinous crimes against them. Which therefore means ANYONE who imitates him can also escape judicial punishment the very same way. That's the kind of world you want. Not me.

I went to take my Drivers License road test and they were playing all the Beatles songs on the radio. They played Imagine, then broke the news again. I found out He was shot and died and they were playing tribute to JL. I failed my road test. I was devastated. I returned to school to tell the news. I just turned 16. Seams like yesterday.

So sad that a man who espoused peace was shot dead on the streets of New York by a lunatic. I remember that night like it was yesterday.

John Lennon and Yoko Ono was so in love. They loved each other so much and they were inseparable. John walked out into the park in New York one morning and somebody shot him dead. A crazy man, absolutely devastating and I remember that day. I remember my mum and crying in the house when it was on the television. The news and I remember the picture of John Lennon on the wall in the background in the house with New York City. Imagine what Yoko felt like when losing John the whole world. Grieved

It was the time he was living in that inspired the lyrics just like Marvin's What's Going On . Sometimes the greats put lyrics down that resonate through decades.

Hi Princess, John Lennon was a member of the beatles. A British band that was one of the four pillars of modern music as we have today. Sadly John was gunned down by a crazed american while he was in New York. Thankyou and try to learn heaps about great music, you will love it. Thankyou Princess.
