The day John Lennon was killed, I was returning home after work. Suddenly, my friend, who was walking next to me, said: "Did you hear that a musician was shot in New York today. John Lennon..." I still remember how the world around me instantly turned black and the sounds disappeared. I still can't come to my senses when I remember that moment. We all miss this man very much. I think this song is one of the strongest in the history of music. Very beautiful and correct. I really want this world to become a better place. From Russia with love.

One of the rare nights my parents let my brother and I stay up to watch Monday Night Football and Howard Cosell got choked up making the announcement over the air during the game. Howard had become a friend of John's years earlier when John paid him a visit ring side to a boxing match he was announcing. My parents made my brother and I go to bed after that. I was crushed, just a few months earlier John released Watching the Wheels, and it was my favorite song at the time. I didn't listen to it again for years afterwards. I felt the music had died at that moment.

I woke up to my clock radio and heard one Beatle song after another after another. I switched radio stations and the next one on the dial was a country station that was playing a Beatles song. I went station to station and every one of them was playing Beatles, which really baffled me. So I got up, got dressed, and walked into my living room where my dad had on the morning news. That’s when I finally heard the news.

Like most people, I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing on the night Lennon got shot. It was one of the saddest moments in my life. Long live thee greatest band of all time... The Beatles. I, too, get a bit melancholy whenever I hear his masterpiece, Imagine 😪.

Sarah, I sent this to my old friend from junior high school in 1972. We would hang out when we were both 13 years old and after school we would listen to the Imagine album everyday back then. Here is the response he texted me: Glen, thanks for this. I had a very busy day and just got home. I watched this and the song and watching this person see the video for the first time really struck me! I can say I got a little choked up watching her reactions and thoughts! I still dream and believe in/ of peace and wish it upon us all. Still hold hope that one day everyone will get and understand eachothers views beliefs goals. Kindness consideration and willingness gets us there helps the goal we should always be striving for. It’s not to take away from history but to learn very important things about one another. That make us think the way we do. In whatever culture country city village one lives in. Not to say everyone should live exactly like the other but to except one another for our differences. No one thinks there’s a cookie cutter way of life … some think that’s what johns trying to say. Most in the slightest.

Thank you for the great reaction. Certainly this is one of the most important songs bringing out the reality that we are all the same at the root of mankind. We are all humans first. It is fine to be content with our particular culture, but it is a far greater thing to see it as rather superficial compared with human commonality. There are people who clearly see this but not enough to stop what is happening in the world (yet). Perhaps if they join us the world will be as one. Thanks again.

'Imagine that there was no more religion, no more country, no more politics,' is virtually The Communist Manifesto".. John Lennon to NME 1971. Lennon admitted himself that this was a call for communism.

A universal solution to a universal way of being, a way of thinking, a way of being alive with no burdens by any ism’s, no ideology or theology, no amount of wealth to control people, a peaceful coexistence, earthlings are people amidst neighboring stars, hopefully, beyond our own spiritual wavelength with one’s conscience, we let go all rage doing bloody things, heartfelt deeds of generosity and forgiveness, and appreciate nature’s resources enveloping our human’s uniqueness with inexhaustible energy and strength from genuine love.

You should check out the cover of this song by Pentatonix. I think John Lennon would be very proud of them. It's awesome!

This was re-released upon his death in 1980, but its an older song from the album Imagine in 1971.

It’s a song and lyric that transcends all that we think is important. Some call it communism or anti-religion.It’s about us living in one world together. We can either drag each other down,or bring each other up.The choice is ours in this world.

yep it's all territorial, materialistic, greed, and one upmanship. As a world yes the choice is ours, but as separate countries and religions and individuals....there is no choice. Left to our own devices and poor judgement, we will all end up killing each other, paranoid idiots and all...

you should listen to the song "Moon and Stars" by AVERE. He wrote it for his 11yo daughter who suffer from depression and anxiety disorders.
