Julia Hartley-Brewer and Joe Ryle, director of the 4 Day Week Campaign, discuss a survey revealing that Generation Z prefers quitting their jobs rather than working in the office three days a week. Joe argues that younger generations seek a different work-life balance, influenced by their observation of previous generations' long working hours and lack of reward.

Please stop calling it Gen ZEE when you know damn well that we British pronounce the last letter of the alphabet, Zed. If people want to talk like Americans, off you go.

When it was lockdown for covid. People suffered because they were isolated from other people. It is better for your mental health to get out and mix.

What about the brickies, engineers, shop assistants, doctors, vets, road workers...etc etc. It's only the keyboard warriors who want to do this and can do this, IF they ask to work 3 days or from home I would fire them on the spot. It's pure laziness.

Working from home will never be as productive as working with other people in the office/factory etc. We urgently need all Civil Servants to be working in their proper environment, The UK is falling apart and work from home will not improve the situation. A healthy Nation works they don't sit at home mis using the hours they should be working. If you do not turn up at the office/factory etc then you do not get paid.

I can't say I blame the youngsters for not going all out in work. I've worked hard since I left school, I didn't get paid any more than lazy buggers, I wasn't thought of any better than lazy buggers (often got treated worse, because I'd say it like it is). Why should they work from the office. You're only making someone else rich and killing yourself in process.

Delusional youngsters. Working hard gives you money and self respect. Earning money gives you independence. No job no money. Time to start cutting back on benefit sponging.

I am severely sight impaired and have worked from home for the majority of the last 15 years. There is no productivity issue, I eat better food drink less coffee and have had zero sick days. How can you be sick if you don’t have e to leave the house. Works for me with my customised office setup.

julia im afraid youre overlooking one of the main issues. Many people myself included are working from home quite efficiently. If i had to go into the office i would have to pay for travel, spend 3 hours a day sat in traffic putting my carbon footprint all over the roads, pay for lunch (or have to buy things in that would keep in a packed lunch), and have to deal with silly office politics and needless fake morale boosting exercises. Right now i spend £10 a week on petrol (for shopping trips and weekend errands), I can meal prep at home and live a healthy lifestyle, and i have 3 hours extra per day to do something productive. My work life is not hindered in any way and im not under pressure to climb the ladder doing a role i dont want to do so that i can afford food and heating and fuel costs. My message is simple, dont tar everyone with the same brush, in a lot of cases, working from home makes so much more sense for employee and employer. In the past, working at the office was like it or lump it and since lockdown people have seen whats behind the curtain, seen that remote does work for a lot of teams, and to take that possibility away is just blind ignorance.
