DLC used to be called an expansion pack, and you bought it as a physical cd/dvd in a box and it was a ton of content all at once, not just one piece of cosmetic armour or a weapon skin. Expansion packs gave way to dlc when enough people had access to high speed internet for game devs to justify the change. Now we have micro dlcs that cost 3.99 for a waifu charm that hangs off the side of an mp5.

Here in the UK, I remember getting the bus into town on a Saturday morning to buy Halo, from my local Electronics Boutique (later rebranded Game). Walking into the store and being hit by a waft of sweat, gate keepers gate keeping and joy. On the bus on the way home, reading the back of the box countless times. I owned that. It was mine. Now I have a license that is subject to Microsoft or Sony changing their mind. We live in the shitty time line.

Million dollar idea: Re-release the iPod on a subscription model where for like $5-10 a month you get to download like 4 albums of your choice to your new iPod (to keep forever) and make it really easy to show off on snapchat, instagram, twitter, etc... what albums you picked that month. I think it would take off like how polaroids sort of found their niche crowd.

So like audible, but for music, but you're required to buy a device, I'd say that would be better as an app, or a website thay you can download off.
@marthastewwart
@marthastewwart 16 күн бұрын
Idk. IMO, that would fail first quarter. People DO NOT care about owning the product anymore. Look at video games. It's all downloaded now, and the companies can void your purchase at any time. The younger generation is perfectly okay with renting their media and never owning it. So your business idea would be pointless. Who would pay to "own" 4 albums? Even 10 albums. Shoot, even 100 albums wouldn't be worth it. Why? Because Spotify or KZbin even has EVERY album, and having EVERY album is a far better deal. It doesn't matter that it's essentially just renting. People would much rather have a larger selection of music vs. owning 0.00000001% People do not care about convenience more than they care about quantity like they use to. People would much rather rebel against a company and complain about something over paying for something to be convenient. Example? KZbin premium is a great deal, it's not expensive. You can have multiple people all chip in to pay and use it, and it has many great features like NO ADS. But people would much rather cry and moan and act like they are a victim. They would do this more than they would rather pay a tiny amount to fix the problem they bxtch about.

I think the 2 biggest things about gen Z being "poor" is partly that they grew up with social media telling them that they should have a house and lambo by age 15 or they are a failure, but the biggest thing is really just their age. Millenials complained about alot of similar things, and are really only now starting to come into money somewhat after being active in the market for 10-15 years. Same with generations before that. Unless you come from a wealthy family, accumulating a net worth just takes time, effort and developing useful skills. And even then most dont really see any of it until their 30s, and another bump in their 50s when they start inheriting. Its always been like that too, but current youth will always only have seen one side of it and they will always complain about something they dont really understand until a decade later. In my opinion of course.

My gen X old man had a single family home, 2 vehicles 10 acres motocross track and a 1992 cr500 on an auto mechanics salary. He had some more purchasing power in the late 80s, 90s than I do now but other than that you're spot on
@sostrongineedmoreofyourmon974
@sostrongineedmoreofyourmon974 16 күн бұрын
@@jessesdomain444that’s all personal opinion more than anecdotal evidence though. What kind of auto mechanic was your father? Was he a master tech, did he have secondary or even tertiary skills he monetized within his profession, did he pay for those extra toys and the track on his income or paid them off after buying on credit? Every generation follows the same basic track through life with some minor twists and variations in individual experiences but it’s only with the most recent generations after 2000 that we can see on a widespread range via the unique twist of social media exposure. My father grew up in a two bedroom apartment with more than 9 people living in it. He joined the military to escape. Ended up across the country, getting married, and having 5 kids. My parents had to scrimp and save all year just to afford to pay for sports signups each year for a single sport of choice for each of us 5 kids. They were happy to do so. They only got a home because a family member died and they were offered a below market price on the deceased’ house as a “family deal.” It took 20 years to pay off the bank loan (and my mother took a job as soon as all 5 kids were in school to make that early payoff possible), but now my parents are moderately wealthy in their late 50s. They have a paid off home, 2 cars, hefty savings, can afford to final travel around visiting grandkids across the country and making trips to casinos, assisting their own kids with minor loans for home purchases of their own, and other such things. But through their 20s and most of their 30s they were struggling financially just as much as the generations of today. It was only 4 generations ago that we had the Great Depression here in the US. Yet our great grandparents all seem to have been able to recover and end up with homes and RVs. The social media generations of today are simply whining louder than the previous generations could by virtue of being able to put their voices out into the aether en masse.
@kvernesdotten
@kvernesdotten 16 күн бұрын
@@jessesdomain444 I know people who have those on a mechanics salary today though, but I see your point. Thing is that when the way companies earn money changes like this video talks about, the rest of the economy right down to the worker/consumer also change. Things are different for sure, but also the same if that makes sense? I think the discussion about buying power is very relevant, but at the same time it can be very misleading because it so heavily depends on what spesific group of goods/services you are talking about. While some things like real estate have increased 10x during that time, alot of consumer goods is a 10th of what they were back in those days too. And owning property has gone from a commodity and a roof over your head an investment, it arguably doesnt even serve the same purpose anymore, but thats a different discussion I guess. Anyway these are very complex topics, way more complex than most people seem to think and I absolutely do not have all the answers. But neither does gen Z, and I think realizing that you havent gotten it all figured out yet is the biggest step towards realizing those things for yourself. Again, purely opinion here

I’m in the millennial generation and I bought a home in my late 20s. My boomer parents got a home in their late 20s. My youngest brother is Gen Z and he bought a home at 29. The home costs across these three generation examples are stark but not impossibly so nor are they only in one direction. Parents home: 220k mortgage and paid off at 22 year mark. My home: 155k mortgage and I’m 10 years deep on a 30 year mortgage. My older brother (millennial): 690k and he’s 8 years deep on a 30 year mortgage. My youngest brother’s home: 460k and he is 5 years deep on a 30 year mortgage. My siblings make good money within their chosen professions and thus they felt comfortable taking on higher cost home debt. I’ve never made more than $65k on any given year and frequently made well under $50k/year, so I chose to move out of the cities in the greater Los Angeles area where I grew up and bought a small home in a rural area of a neighboring county. That’s why my mortgage was so low and I love having a monthly payment which is ~35% of the average rent price in CA. When one doesn’t make a lot of money, being smarter with money is a necessity. That’s honestly the main difference between older generations and newer ones. Social media has taught newer generations to live well outside their means as a method of pretending to be successful by creating the image they think will impress others. It’s not economic inflation which is to blame, it is sheer lifestyle inflation.

im a millenial, and the last time i actually bought a game was Assasins creed black sails. I dont even remember which year that came out, but its a long time ago. This subscription model is one of the reasons i dont "buy" games anymore, i dont have any microtransactions, i dont have any subscriptions. My kids they still play on the PS4, and we play it WITHOUT a playstation plus account, just buying discs of the local retro store and playing it this way. Theres no point upgrading to a PS5. I explained to my kids in detail how this scam of an economy works, and they understand very well. They have never made a single purchase on the mobile phone app store, they never made one single microtransaction, they actually read comic books and regular books sometimes and play the PS4 or just GO OUTSIDE with their friends. Without ownership, why should we care? rent your house from the government and/or the bank, or rent from a landlord. Rent your entertainment, rent your car.... Yes even your car is really rented, because if you dont pay the tax they take that too. You really own nothing, and thats why the world is starting to look like shit. Why should you really care about the land when you dont own it? Its not even yours, your making it beautiful for someone else, and in someone else i dont mean your family or your community. Your making it nice for daddy government or some real estate oligarch. The only way it stops is if people just stop supporting this. Let it rot

Unless, of course, paid to me, then I am the moneyman in the suit whose butt everyone licks.

I really dont understand the hate behind services like Gamepass. You have to treat them right - similar to Blockbuster rentals or their summer pass($10 a week for unlimited game rentals IIRC). Get it. Play what you want in a reasonable amount of time then cancel until something else shows up you’re interested in but dont want to pay full price. For *most* single player games *most* people will play it. Beat it. Then never touch it again so it works out way cheaper. You shouldn’t be permasubbed or subbed for your “main” titles. Its a rental service. Treat it as such.

When I was 22, I graduated from college, worked a full time corporate management job AND worked the door 4-5 nights per week at the Troubadour in Hollywood. This enabled me to buy a 400K condo in Pasadena by the age of 24. Even though I was making 90K at 24 in 2004, I still worked my second job until I was 27 to get ahead. Now, 20 somethings don't even want to work one full time job. 40 hours per week is not in their vocabulary. They are an embarrassment as our their parents who enable them by letting them live with them or giving them money. Sad.

My friend decided to switch to physical media as much as possible and essentially do his own Netflix using plex and like 8 years ago i thought it was kinda cringe but he's been consistently adding to his collection over the years, I too have contributed by letting him rip physical media I buy and at this point his catalogue is NUTS. Hundreds of movies, at least 100 shows. All of it is the stuff we like the most at the highest quality (higher bitrates than most streaming services cus he bought a sickass rig to run his server). Now I've been amassing physical movies and tv shows for a few years. I also read books and always preferred to buy them physical even as a kid vs using a kindle (though I do have one and love it). I have at least 100 physical books I love and can read whenever and it's kinda broken ngl.

Subscriptions are not the only reason people are poor. Instant gratification and not telling themselves no is. $7 coffee, subscriptions, going on vacations they can’t afford, cars that they believe they “need” not just getting one they can afford. Of course the biggest scam that has ever been created which is college. Just so you can have your receipt at the end. Credit cards make this all possible at 25-34% interest. Fast food on every corner. It all makes us poor if we let it. I lived this life for awhile but, I started a budget and payed off my wife and i’s debt. Told myself no and we live way more stress free just don’t get to do as much. However, retirement is a possibility now. If you don’t believe me on any of this. Watch Caleb hammers financial audit. I think is you philion , who said in a previous video who said "name a better country than America, ill wait " Not owning anything and constantly being in debt is not living a good and stres free life. A country is not great if it feeds on its people

@6Stomach you won't get it , from the point of view of a person not from america Japan , denmark , sweden , grmany , basicly majority of europe , china maybe and others . Not talking about military power and economic influence, talking about people having their own property , not being in debt and etc ...

@nikolazlatkovik3235 your comment does not make sense. Property ownership and economic mobility are worse than America in I think every one of those nations.
