The line you heard was, "In the naked light I saw... 10,000 people maybe more..." They have uptempo songs and slower ones. And Paul Simon (he's the shorter one) has had a huge solo career after Simon & Garfunkel split the first time. The duo did get back together over the years for tours but never did another studio album together. Other great songs you should check out include The Boxer, Bridge Over Troubled Waters, Mrs. Robinson, and Homeward Bound.

10 years or so after they broke up, they held a free concert in Central Park in New York. They expected a crowd of about 20,000. Instead 500,000 people showed up. This is the video of that concert

I owned the CD version of this concert in Central Park (free!) as a young teenager! Knew every word of every song. They always transported me to another place! FYI- at the opening of the 9/11 memorial in NYC Paul Simon played this song just a guitar and his voice. There wasn’t a dry eye there. I’ll never forget it!!!!❤✌️. New subscriber here!!!

I grew up listening to Simon & Garfunkel & had a lot of their records. Absolutely loved them & their harmonies. You won't find a bad song. They have had so many hits such as "Bridge Over Troubled Water", "The Boxer", "Mrs. Robinson", "Kathy's Song", "Scarborough Fair", "At The Zoo", "Cecilia", "America", "I Am A Rock", "El Condor Pasa" etc. Paul Simon went on to have a huge solo career with lots of great songs.

They wrote this song!!! When Garfunkel was in college, he had a friend who was blind but Garfunkel told him he would help him get through. His friend called him "Darkness!" He used to welcome him with, "Hello, Darkness, my old friend!"

In your comment about thinking that you heard the "n" word, you said that "things were less sensitive back then". Are you kidding me? There were race riots in the US in the 1960s. The Civil Rights Act had just passed in the US and racial tension was MUCH HIGHER than it is right now. For the record, I'm almost 65 years old and the only music I've ever heard that uses the "n" word is rap and hip hop. The word you misheard in this song was "naked".
@s.edwards648526 күн бұрын
Thank you. I can’t believe the younger generation has sunk so low as to mistake “naked” for the n-word. I mean, who’d put that word in a ballad, that too in the 1960s? Either this young man is conditioned to see racism everywhere or he just needs to brush up his reading and listening skills.

This song came out in the mid 1960s. Simon and Garfunkel split up in 1970. I think this video was a reunion concert from the early 80s. It was the first time that they performed since they split.

Enjoyed your reaction, it’s a beautiful song from my younger days. The line you questioned was a follow-up to the previous verse, which had said “My eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light, that split the night.” The following verse continues “And in the naked light I saw, ten thousand people, maybe more.”

The Simon and Garfunkel album, Bridge Over Troubled Water has been in my music repertoire for over 50 years. It's one I play a lot when I'm working around the yard. My grandfather taught me how to harmonize when we were kids so I like to sing harmony along with them while I clean. There's no one to hear me now but the animals. The horses and dogs seem to enjoy it though. I swear Lupine, a quarter horse mare, does a little dance and nod whenever she hears S and G. LOL

One of the most beloved songs of an entire generation by perhaps the most important singing duo to ever come along. Now you need to go liisten to their biggest hit, and the #1 song of 1970, "Bridge Over Troubled Water," a true masterpiece. Some of their songs were decidedly more upbeat. Check out "Mrs. Robinson" or "Cecilia," for a couple of examples. No, he did not say "the N word." Paul Simon, unlike the hacks of today, didn't have to stoop to coarse language to make a profound point with his lyrics.

This is the original version from 1966. I love this version because I grew up with it, however I absolutely love 'Pentatonix' & 'Disturbs' versions. They are like 3 different songs. It shows the artistry when someone can put a whole new twist on a classic & make it just as wonderful, just in a different way.
@2009kygal3 ай бұрын
These two were amazing! They didn't get along, because Paul Simon wrote the songs and felt like his way was the right way. He didn't want Art Garfunkel's ideas. Check out the version Disturbed did. It is very different, but absolutely amazing!

This song is a commentary on how we are embracing technology at the expense of human relationships. This was written at a time before the invention of personal computers and cell phones. The band Disturbed did a cover of this song a few years ago that you should check out. It’s said that Simon and Garfunkel’s version was a gentle warning of the dangers of technology and Disturbed’s version is a reprimand because we did not heed the warning.

That and Wizard of OZ were 1939. Not first but late 30s began big budget films done in color by Hollywood especially musicals. The 2-color Technicolor process was a film from 1922 not lost with no copies. The cost and intense light had most 30s depression era use B&W. B movies into the 60s still used B&W with full change 60s to color.

When did color TV become common in homes? A year later, 1969, almost one-third of all households had color TVs; by 1972, the figure stood at almost half, and by 1984 color sets had penetrated into just over 90 percent of American homes, according to the Consumer Electronics Manufacturers Association

Paul Simon is one of the greatest poets of our generation, a brilliant songwriter, and a killer acoustic guitarist. Garfunkel has a beautiful voice, but is neither a writer nor musician. Love the lyric, "The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls, and tenement halls..." The very beginnings of protest and socially-meaningful songs. Released in 1965, I believe, mid-60's anyway.
