Good video. Thanks. My hair has all the same characteristics as yours except I believe it is low porosity. My hair does not sink in water, and I can see beads of water that stay on the strands. I think that means I need less protein than you do. I stay away from it unless it starts feeling very soft. I don't use a leave-in currently, so I will try the lighter leave-in you suggested today. Maybe that will help! I will also try brush styling. I find it causes so much frizz for me, but maybe that is because I have not added enough moisture. I am struggling so hard! Thanks so all you do.

I forgot to mention, upside-down styling can tangle up coarse hair worse, especially if you have high-porosity hair because it sticks to the scalp and to itself. Upright styling is recommended for these hair types.

Hi Gena I have very course textured 2c/3a high porosity thick hair and have some white hairs around mostly the front - it's very prone to frizz and tangles. I can't over moisturise, but do have to be careful not to overload with protein. Oils, butters and custards are my friends, whereas anything too humectant heavy causes issues. Mousse and straight up gels don't really work for me, but custards with more moisture give enough hold normally. I have very dry hair and a dry/eczema prone scalp, so I rarely have to worry about weighing down my hair - it needs tamed tbh. I apply oil everyday to my dry hair or a balm for smoothness. My hair actually benefits from some silicone and it took a while to realise that the reason my hair wasn't behaving, was the obsession with silicone free styling products in the curly hair community. I do clarify regularly and use a deep conditioner every second wash. I have been wearing my hair curly for several years and there has been a lot of trial and error involved in understanding what works for my hair. Tangles are a major issues (especially in the nape of the neck) and I often have to trim them out. fortunately as I have so much hair losing a few isn't an issue. I sleep on a silk pillowcase and use a bonnet, but it gets tangled anyway. Clothing, the Scottish weather and the texture of my hair mean it's just unavoidable I'm afraid. I have mobility issues and can't do upside down styling anyway. I shampoo every seven to ten days and co wash once in between - that's what works for me. Best wishes.

@miaa.fornataro38893 жыл бұрын
This could be due to my hair being high porosity due to permanent hair coloring (once every 3-4 months) but my hair's natural coarseness is not negatively effected by coconut oil! In fact, one of my favorite leave-in conditioners - the Curls Blueberry Bliss Reparative Leave-in, is very rich and concentrated with coconut oil in it, and I've used many other products from brands that are coconut oil-rich with very little to no negative outcomes. I am aware, however, of the strengthening properties of coconut oil and so I do recommend using it in moderation, alternating your products and oils so your hair doesn't become so strengthened that you wind up with buildup, excess brittleness, or protein overload. balance is key.
@miaa.fornataro38892 жыл бұрын
@bina nocht I already knew all of this, thanks. coconut oil has been clinically proven to aid in strengthening the hair but you get your best benefits from protein and bonding treatments, both of which I use in my routine to maintain its health.

I also have a very difficult hair combo. I’m looking for fine and coarse hair tutorials but I can’t find it. I have full hair so it’s not necessarily thin, but the individual strands are fine and some are coarse which causes a lot of breakage for me.

Use apple cider vinegar in a bottle with water to detox hair. Mine comes out silk smooth. Do once a month. I could not use quidad, too drying. I use shea moisture manuka honey and argan intensive shampoo and conditioner.

Hi is a pre poo oil different from an anti frizz oil? Can you recommend some good affordable pre poo oil 🙏❤️ thank you so much for these awesome videos they’re helping me repair my curls from dying red
@GenaMarie2 жыл бұрын
Yes and no! You can use a regular finishing serum as a prepoo, but it may be kinda thick. Also oils don’t usually tame frizz, only gels, hairspray, and mousse work for frizz ☺️ Here’s a prepoo oil I use: bit.ly/3ouhmbl Another option: rstyle.me/+ORoZ5jgsi0RxXIrhxfg9dg

@@GenaMarie ok thank you so much!! I’m watching all your videos today your so informative and helpful ❤️ thank you truly! Also I’m looking for a really hydrating oil for my ends specifically because I have really coarse low porosity color damaged curls. Would a natural oil like coconut oil be a better option than a pre poo oil?

Are mousses still okay to use for coarse hair? They make my hair look better than any curl creams I've tried so far
@GenaMarie3 жыл бұрын
Yeah! As long as it's not causing dryness for you or sticky.

I brush my hair out before I shower since my hair tends to get rats nests bc I do make the mistake of wearing it up a lot (I do live in a high humid and heat environment) and I know brushing the curls out wet weakens hair and can cause breakage, but brushing out after showering and conditioning just separates the curls, and I end up with tiny stringy curls. My hair actually benefits from sticking together, therefore creating those big, natural curls that don't look crunchy or too corkscrew. I'm somewhere in the medium to coarse, bc not all of my curls are uniform, and it's very frustrating, bc I can't find a haircut that can accommodate that either. ANY ADVICE, LOVES?!

My hair is curly, 80% more or less coarse, highly dense, and is high porosity. It seems to me that the irregular medulla layer Is not supposed to occur. I think the body expels stuff through the hair. Im just a normal person trying to understand my hair and I've come to this that makes sense to me. It's hard to imagine that hair is supposed to be coarse and have rough irregular textures on the strands. Seems like there's something wrong here.

I am messaging in absolute desperation. Please can you help? I have protein overload accidentally used a shampoo that was not suitable for me. Am going to do an ACV rinse tomorrow (just watched your video). But lately my scalp is so damn itchy and gets greasy within a day or 2 (for the last 2 weeks) when usually my hair and scalp is on the dry side?! My hair is 2a, low perosity, medium density and i use sulphate free shampoo! I don't understand the greasy hair when I wash every 3 days sometimes later xxx
@GenaMarie3 жыл бұрын
The Curlsmith Detox kit can help with those issues because it’s made to rebalance the scalp, both oily and dry. An ACV rinse will also help with an itchy scalp. A good clarifying wash then deep condition with a protein free deep conditioner will help

I never knew I had curls, I have always had frizzy hair and I thought I just had naturally straight frizzy hair but they started appearing in May (I got a small trim) and so on, right now they look like 3a-3b curls but the roots are straight and when further down its curly ish and wavy ish at the same time? Like there are some beautiful curls at the front that I absolutely love and some around the hair but I don't know what products are right for my hair. I was thinking of buying Shea Moisture products but because of the Christmas holidays money was needed for gifts instead, but anyway, it still is really frizzy and I don't know how to treat it. I use t-shirts to dry my hair and when I take it out I let it air dry because whenever I've tried defusing I've always gotten frizz and I just don't know how to help it anymore. I apologise for the long paragraph but thank you to anyone who takes some time off their day to read this. Please give me advice.

Who can afford all of this stuff?!?! I have a daughter that is 19 she has autism but she loves to look good. We are battling with her hair. It is very long, curly and coarse. But it is dry and brittle as well. I do my best but I just can’t afford all this stuff. 😔
