A LOT has changed in the 6 years since I left the West and moved to China. I have realized that I am completely out of touch with modern popular culture, politics, social media etc. In this series, I am going to try to wrap my head around some of these changes. Especially since I will be trying to reintegrate myself into Western society when Angela and I eventually make the big move westwards.

So. Let me help out a little bit here. The video you found is not trying to present things from an unbiased point of view. The gentleman asking questions is not gathering information to further his own knowledge, he's intentionally trying to lead the person he's speaking with through increasingly unreasonable questions to make it look like they're unreasonable. This is false equivalence. There are very, very, very few people out there claiming to be a race--or species-- that they are not. Or that they're taller or shorter than they are (unless you're one of those guys who's like 5'10 and tells everyone he's six foot. :P ) Or that they're a different age (unless you are one of the mountains of people who would claim to be a few years younger than they are--y'know, the "eternally 29 year old" woman or whatnot.) Gender identity, though, that's a different story. Sex is what the body was born as--AFAB or AMAB are common phrases you'll see. Assigned female/male at birth. Gender is about a socially constructed role that influences how we act, dress, etc and how people typically react to you, and has nothing to do with what physical parts you have. Everyone has a gender. Most people, gender and sex align pretty closely. But sometimes it doesn't. Gender identity is basically about how if someone says that they're a lady and want to be referred to as she and her, then we respect that and say she and her. Even if we don't think they look that way. Think of the old 'comedy' trope of the 'ugly' woman who looks very masculine, to the point that no one is sure if they're a sir or a ma'am. The moment, in that trope, someone figures out which titles to use, they start using them properly. The difference is that instead of it only being extended to "ugly" women, it's every one. It's basically an extension of being transgender, except there is a lot less emphasis on needing to change your body to 'justify' certain pronouns to be used. But, most of all, be careful of where you get information from: A lot of the people who dislike the idea of people defying their birth gender or societal norms are usually pretty vocal about attempting to portray these folks as 'crazy' or 'unreasonable.' Case in point in the comments below -- one person calls them "nutters" and another says that it's 'common sense vs stupidity'... Obviously, I'm somewhat biased, but personally, when given the choice between quiet to enthusiastic acceptance and insults, anger and fear mongering... I know which one I would rather stand next to.

If it's societal then you can simply choose to identify as your 'assigned sex'. The truth is that it's a biological disorder that by the way is nothing new, there are plenty of people that identify as disabled and paraplegics stuck in a regular body [they then try to cut off their arms & legs] There's also body dysmorphia and anorexics, etc.... But we don't encourage their disorders, we tell them the truth. Or at least we used to. There are actually plenty of people identifying as different races & ages, and it is not a false equivalence, either. Self-identification is what's relevant according to you guys, and additionally, if it's societally constructed then again, there's nothing wrong with identifying with 'child-like social interests' or 'other cultural ethnic groups' if say, for example, you like ramen and korean culture, you can most definitely identify with that; now imagine if that person had to [falsely] be referred to as Korean simply because he relates to some of their customs? And when you point out that he is not Korean, you get some pseudo scientific babble about how it's a socially constructed phenomena and thus separated from the genetic markers. I'm convinced you guys already know this, and just avoid/reject these other identities [that are already becoming more prevalent] because you know it's politically inconvenient but you are the one that accepted the logical precedence, and it's not too late for you to realize that it was a mistake that never made any logical sense. And no, making up a new [societal] word for 'race' and using it interchangeably does not make it real.

@@TheGreatDetectiveKnows You say that there are "plenty" of people who identify as disabled or paraplegics and whatnot. Okay, so, first: I hope that you realize that there are a lot of people who have invisible disabilities. Things like Fibromyalgia, or lupus generally don't leave marks on the outside. I hope you're not counting these people are part of those 'plenty'. I don't *think* that you are, but I wanted to make sure. As for people who try to cut off their arms or legs to 'match' their body image... alright. You're describing Body integrity dysphoria. That's a thing. it's not a very common thing, though. Like, there's a lot of STORIES about it. But, there's very very few actual cases of self amputation for the purpose of 'fixing' their body. By very few I mean that the number of well documented examples are countable on a single hand. (actually wikipedia counts it as "at least one" so take as you will) There are more people who may WANT this, but.. they're still extremely uncommon. As in: there are only about 200 cases recorded in medical literature. Fun fact: apparently people with Body integrity dysphoria actually have less gray matter in a specific part of their brain, and the amount missing was pretty strongly connected to the strength of the patient's desire to remove their limb and that there was an actual difference in 'skin conductance' above and below the line of desired amputation. It is to say: There's actual physical science backing up their disorder. I have met literally no one who is transracial, or 'transaged' or whatever, and thousands of trans folks. Wikipedia's page of transracial people has a total of 8 individuals, and every bit of research I can turn up about transagism says that it's either something cooked up by 4 chan as a way to delegitimize transgender OR a p*d*ph*le OR someone with multiple personalities who has a child personality. Let me share an anecdote. In 2018, there was a story floating around about how people wanted to make Santa gender-neutral. There were posts saying things like "santa is now seen as gender neutral!" and "nearly a third of people think santa should be gender neutral!" but they didn't usually discuss how they gained this information. So here's how: A graphic design company did a survey and asked things like "if you could "rebrand" santa for modern society, what gender would he be?" with male, female and gender neutral as the only options. They asked 733 people to answer this question and 174 chose "gender neutral" as a way to modernize santa. Yet, by the headlines, they spoke about it like it was a major movement across the internet that was frantically gaining traction -- rather than the results of a survey conducted with very flawed methodology that got the name of the graphic design company all over the internet for a few weeks. (Hmmm... a motivation, perhaps?) this is the sort of phenomena that is behind nearly every one of those wild headlines: ONE person says that she's a black lady on the inside and suddenly, it's a common thing that 'everyone knows about' and is 'proof' of why the other guys are illogical, even if it is literally one person saying something. Even if everyone disagrees pr disapproves. I promise. Transracial and Trans-agest people are an extreme minority. They are not becoming more prevalent. But it sure does serve a lot of people's political interests to make you believe that it is a thing, a growing thing, and that we DO know about this and that we just try to look the other way rather than admit that it's a thing.

This is a touchy, heavily debated/argued subject. Some have nothing against someone being trans or non-binary, while others vehemently deny the existence of gender identity. I think the guy in the video wad using those examples to illustrate a point.

@@cadifferentreactions I was taught early on to not judge people based on things like gender identity, race, etc. If someone is trans or non-binary, then that's who they are. I actually have a couple of friends who are trans and one who is non-binary.

as for being 6'5" I would ask u how long is ur foot. U do know that a the measurement of foot and inch are arbitrary. A king of England said the length of my foot is now afoot and u divided into 12 equal parts to get the length of an inch. His foot may be smaller then ur foot
