I've always tried to help esp on baby showers for families of lesser means, I think it's reasonable to have a shower for each baby in a lot of cases. Subsequent babies need fewer large ticket items bc they get them handed down. Other special but common circumstances come to mind such as multiples on the way, or a special needs child, or just a single parent without a whole lot of help pulling it all off. ❤️

Fun fact, the blog post that popularised the idea of gender reveals was quite literally just a cake with a layer of pink icing inside. It was purposefully low-key because the woman had suffered a number of miscarriages beforehand and I think this was the first pregnancy that lasted long enough for them to be able to determine the gender. The reveal was as much celebrating that the pregnancy had lasted as much as the reveal itself.

Her MIL and SIL knew the gender and created a riddle that had to be solved by opening a series of presents. I don't remember exactly what the gifts were, but it was something like the first present was one item like one "onesie." The second was two items like two booties. The third was three items like 3 pacifiers. The fourth gift was a piece of ivy. And the answer to the riddle? A boy. Why? Because if they ever had a boy he would be named for his great-grandfather(Sr.), his grandfather (Jr.), and his father (III).. He would be "IV." "IV"= "ivy." Get it? It was great fun.

Rules for a successful Gender Reveal: 1) absolutely no fire or explosives 2) if using balloons DO NOT fill them with helium 3) if using a popper DO NOT aim at a person and aim it up and not towards the ground 4) Make sure the person setting up the reveal knows the difference between Male and Female 5) Remember that gender determined thru a Sonogram is not always 100% accurate.

I'm sorry. Maybe I'm too old (?) but I just don't see the point. Like so many other made up special occasions, the big winner is the industry behind these contraptions. We routinely see weddings that cost more than my first house because it's so important to outdo your sister or best friend, and now we have gender reveal parties that more often than not go wrong, sometimes terribly (massive wildfires anyone?). Is it worth having to replace a car or even a house because you left the planning to someone with no inkling of how lethal some chemical reactions can be? Geez. If you absolutely must have a reveal, just stick some pink or blue candles on a cake, and no one will have to take a direct hit to their nuts 🤪.

At around the 7:50 mark -- I felt so sorry for that little girl who seem very afraid of popping a big balloon while her (I'm assuming) parents try to bully her into into it...and when she has an emotional break-down and tosses the pointed dart that was to pop the balloon, she got her hands slapped for it. :( And...although not shown, I am pretty sure given how the parents treated her for not 'complying' to their demands to do something the girl was obviously afraid of doing...that little girl was probably blamed for the balloon escaping and she got into even more trouble, or even spanked. Little kids are often afraid of loud popping sounds, and in seeing balloons break. Instead of the treatments she got from those 2 self centered assholes, she should have been given a hug and told she didn't need to expose herself to popping the balloon and the resulting explosion of sound, and the chaos of the balloon coming apart along with anything in it that would have spilled out of it. I'm 57 and think it's ridiculous to have a gender reveal party...to me it's just another scam to try to get people to bring gifts. It use to be there was a bridal shower, then later a baby shower...now there are all kinds of bullshit 'events' to waste time and other people's money to celebrate the self entitled bridezillas and couples out there who are either getting married and/or having a baby. .
