Fabulous interview, thanks so much for posting this treasure. Gene is my favorite male singer of all time, no one sounds like him. It's so hard to believe he's gone, he left us way too soon. 40 yrs of Gene Pitney was no where near long enough, but I'm still grateful for all the songs and all the magnificent performances. Thanks again.

Gene Pitney visited Newcastle, Australia on a number of occasions and every time he came, his concerts were sold out - "House Full"! And no wonder! His was a great talent and magic to watch and hear him perform.

What a lovely man ! I have liked Gene Pitney since the early sixties. Very talented as a singer and song writer. I saw him on stage a few times in the sixties. he always was such a modest man ! Thank you for uploading

I have his greatest hits CD. When I was a kid back in 1962..I thought Gene Pitney was soooooooooo handsome! And his records are awesome. Even then I knew What good music was! In these interviews with gene......he looks like a difference person and his voice sounds like another person. He sure looked healthy to me...like he can go on forever.... just a great talent!!!!!

Hi Olivia! Great to hear from you! I hope that you and Gene's children and survivors are faring well. I was shocked when I heard of his passing, his voice and music were such a big part of my youth. If you took Gene out of the foundation of pop music the entire structure would collapse, he is such an integral part of it. Good news is that his voice has the power to reach across decades to us to charge up our emotional batteries still.

A late reply but I did want to say that many of the songs Gene had done were very, very well done and I continue to listen and play these recordings but an exceptional one to me was "Something's gotten a hold of my heart" . Definitely a favorite. I have heard others do this song and have to say it is nearly impossible to improve upon. Olivia, your uncle's singing was and continues to be a treasure.

Yes, a tear in my eye... This guy meant so much to me as a teenager. His songs, his voice, the way in which he wielded his elegant vibrato like a fine sword he arrested my emotions.

Loved his songs growing up in the 60s-I met him while I was working the grave shift at a small mom and pop store back in 1976-he was traveling to do a show in Allentown Pennsylvania and he stopped for some Dristan Sinus Medicine cause he had a bad headache-he purchased the medication-a pack of Juicy Fruit Gum-a Butterscotch TastyKake Krimpet and a Ma's Old Fashioned Can of ice tea-he pulled out a $5 Bill and signed it and gave it to me-Dear God I still treasure that $5-RIP-Gene-Paul was here-04-28-16.

How wonderful that memory must be! I "discovered" Gene Pitney only when I was 21 yrs old, in 1974, my new husband had a few of his mother's records and we listened to those Gene Pitney records all the time.

I have a German CD issue on the Bear Family label which features Pitney singing a German lyric for a song called "Bleibe Bei Mir"(English translation: "Stay By Me") which was recorded over the "Town Without Pity" musical backing. It was ostensibly a German version of Town Without Pity but the lyrics sung, made it a completely different song indeed, with the only thing in common with what it was supposed to be, being the backing music.

@spacepatrolman Could have been. Many singers tried their hand at acting. I don't know if Gene was interested in acting or not, he never made mention of it in interviews. Maybe he gave it a try but it wasn't for him. I don't know. Thanks for responding.:o)
