Andromeda was also Gene Roddenberry. It was atrocious. Star Trek TNG was good in spite of Gene, not because of him. Gene Roddenberry was falling apart mentally and physically by the late 1980s. He was fired from TNG some time around the start of season 2 production. He was supposedly let go for health reasons but the true reason is that nobody wanted to work with him and he kept trying to derail the writing staff. And yeah, Gene was a creep. he had a Matt Lauer style door in his office where he could hit a button under the desk and the door would shut and lock itself.
