Gene was unable for years to do this in live performances because he didn’t carry a horn player in his band. BUT, he finally had a lead guitar player who played a horn and they worked it up and played it for the first time at the Stagecoach in Ft. Worth. I happened to record it when they played it the first time. The audience went crazy and gave them a standing ovation. Tge look on Gene's face was fantastic as he realized how much his audience loved it. A magical night for sure.

Thanks Jason for this request of a song that (I think) is a bit different for Gene. I like the fact how they incorporated the trumpet into the song and gave it that bit of New Orleans jazz sound. I think the song is about Louis Armstrong. Since the song specifically mentions New Orleans and Louis was a well known New Orleans trumpet player, who died 6 years (1971) prior to the release of this song (1977). Thanks for the reaction

I have always loved this song, especially with the horn playing. They say country music has a blues background and Texas swing uses horns, so I believe it is legit here. I tried to find out who was playing this horn, but no luck yet. Danny Davis and the Nashville Brass did some backing on records. This song was written by someone named Dallas Harms around 1977. Not familiar with him. Gene also uses some great piano players in some of his songs. We got to meet Gene years ago in NJ. He was really nice. I told him that I had seen him on the Nashville Now show a few times. He said Ralph Emery always got him in trouble on the show.
