This is a wonderful preliminary guide for the game. As someone who has finished this game with the best total rank on their first go, I gotta say, these fundamentals are some of the most important things to know. If anyone in the comments is putting off playing this game, I highly recommend giving it a shot, especially if you’ve never played a Fire Emblem game or just never played this one. What Chaz says here, and what he will likely go over in the second video, are basically all you need to get started. Don’t worry about missing something or not knowing about something honestly. Remember, you can save multiple times per chapter so you can always go back to fix mistakes if you want! Glad Chaz made this, and I’m personally looking forward to what he makes next!

Arden can take 7 steps along the road turn 1 because 0.7*7 = 4.9, which does not exceed his 5 mov. Figuring this out over areas with roads + plains is a bit trickier, it involves grade school decimal math.

I just want you to know that when I saw your "5 Reasons you should not play Genealogy" video back in June of 2019, I had no interest in the entire franchise. I wasn't even fully watching it, just listening to it when I was feeling really dazed one day. But it convinced me to give it a shot. Fast forward to January of this year when I finished the final chapter, not only has it become one of my favorite games ever created but I'm now going to play every FE game in order of release (excluding Thracia 776, I jumped into that because it's the only other Jugdral game. Currently on Chapter 6 and loving it.) It has such a good story to gameplay cohesion that I feel would be lost with animated cutscenes in a remake personally, like the NPC battles. I don't even think this game is that clunky, and I love the vast maps unique to this game apparently. This game with the systems it has in place is perfect for it specifically. I wouldn't change a thing. Oh, and shame on everyone who casually spoils THAT event. I'm happy you didn't as I experienced that blind. Easily one of the most legendary moments in any story for me. So thank you so much! I also want to point out that I've gotten 3 of my friends to start the game with one of them in the second to last chapter, all of which had either never played an FE game before or had just played Three Houses and Awakening. In other words, your videos have done justice in spreading the good name of FE4. Lastly, one of my favorite things for my playthrough that I did was not touch the game for 4 months after beating Chapter 5. It legitimately gave chapter 6 so much more impact for me. EDIT: ALSO, I totally think this game would be heavily censored even in Japan if it got a remake. There's some really surprisingly... adult things in the game that I cannot see even Nintendo of Japan keeping to give it a lower age rating there. Especially since FE4 was released before their age rating system existed.

Fire Emblem: Genealogy For Everyone is the 23rd game in the Fire Emblem series and is a remake of the fourth game, Genealogy of the Holy War. Released in 2026, it earned great critical acclaim for its efforts to fix several frustrating and tedious aspects while maintaining the overall feel that made the original so beloved, but has been the target of criticism in some corners for changing too much. Common points of contention are the adjustments to weapon balance resulting in swords no longer being overpowered, the addition of several new characters, some of whom get as many as four lines of dialogue, and a particularly controversial sequence in chapter 8 where the dragon knights of Thracia challenge the citizens of Manster to a dance competition.
0:35 "if (...) you haven't played this game, I honestly envy you" Well, most of the FE fans already knows THAT event of the game through memes and stuff, indifferent of if they've played the game or not, so I'm not so sure if your feeling is appropriate...

Jesus dude, this editing is off the charts. Even though I had major events spoiled for me, I still cried a little. This is one of my favourite games. I think Kaga's best strength is making the story, gameplay, and music feel connected, and while I think this is more present in FE5, it is still done very well here. I don't think this is the best SNES game, which I believe to be Super Metroid, but both FE4 and FE4 are probably in the top 20, or even 10 (SNES has a lot of amazing games okay). I do think that this game is clunky, archaic, and needs quality of life improvements. Do I care? No.
@pizzabagel38404 жыл бұрын
I've never played Genealogy, but I will criticize Genealogy. The game is clunky and archaic. I don't know in what ways it's clunky and archaic, but other people that have also never played Genealogy have told me that it's clunky and archaic, and I believe, because I want to. Therefore, I'm waiting for a remake of this game where they'll fix the clunky and archaic mechanics. I don't know what those mechanics are, but once the remake comes out and I love it, I'll happily declare that the designers listened to me, because I'm smart, and fixed the clunky and archaic mechanics. I'll say this even if they don't change a thing, because I still don't know what the mechanics are that I'm talking about. But wait, why would I say that Genealogy is a clunky and archaic piece of trash (which it is) even though it's one of the most beloved games, not only in the Fire Emblem series, but in gaming as a whole? Well you see, it's simple, I have better tastes than older people. I love to go around saying that old games that I don't like, or haven't played, didn't age well. This allows me to say that my opinion about a game is objective fact, and it's not that people who like these games are wrong, they just aren't as smart as me and can't realize that games become less fun because new games exist. Take Mega Man 2 for example. Literally no one ever complained about having to open the menu over and over to change powers. Nope, no one. Not a soul. It definitely wasn't an issue pointed out by a lot of people playing it, but the game was still loved despite that. It wasn't until Mega Man 11 was released, and we could use the right stick to quickly change powers, where people realized that going to the menu was kind of annoying. Why did they fix this issue if no one even knew it was an issue to begin with? Shut up. Mega Man 2 is now literally unplayable because Mega Man 11 exists. What I'm trying to say is, don't disagree with my opinion or I will call you entitled, elitist, and blinded by nostalgia for poorly aged games, and because you can't prove me wrong (and because I obviously know what's going on inside of your head better than you do), I must be right. Anyway, good video, but I'm going to have to leave a dislike because you didn't get up to pee during any of it.

The satire hurts me. The term 'archaic' to describe game design is my biggest pet peeve, because it's an empty word that means nothing to describe why they don't like it, or any understanding of the context of the mechanics or how the interactions of them affect the player. Yet people accept such non-description at face value. Human emotion doesn't just change, so how archaic mechanics affect a tailored experience doesn't just become obsolete over a few decades. Demanding design to be homogeneous to only what they are familiar with in modern games takes away from a game's potential, only to reduce them as the most baseline form of immediate entertainment.

It's my favorite FE game and has been since that summer. I definitely go back and forth about what flaws I would like to change for the potential remake. Part of me wants to keep the experience intact. Then a part of me remembers heavy fire tomes and axes compared to practically no weight swords and wind tomes, and then I remember what quality of life updates can do for an old game. I really hope that they take a lesson from Echoes and actually make better improvements where needed since FE4 is already better than base Gaiden. But even if nothing changes, fully voice acting, animated cutscenes like Echoes, and extended dialogue for support would be the dream. Great video and I love the picture for the video! I also realize that this is probably the most odd video for me to choose to post that comment on but, I've been wanting to say it for a while and just started studying up on FE4. Thanks for the guide by the way.

Thanks so much for doing this! I've desperately wanted to get into genealogy for years. It's remained a scary leap for me because of all the mechanics that are hard to get a grasp on (lookin at you affection/pairing) i just know once I dedicate the time to it it'll be one of my favorite games of all time. Aesthetically and just, everything about it screams at me that I'll love it. Thanks again

Congratulations chaz. You finally convinced me to play the game. Jesus that prologue was long. Good fun though, also that recovery ring arvis has MUST be one of the most broken items in fire emblem.

As a relative FE vet by this point, the comment about feeling how your units will preform seemed ludicrous to me for half a second until I remembered two things: My first playthrough of any FE game, Awakening Casual Normal, was basically this. By the time I realized what the numbers signified, there were too many bonuses I wasn't aware of to get a clear picture of how everything fit in place, like support and weapon rank bonuses. I ended up playing the game without ever doing math outside of the battle forecast. The other thing I remembered was a comment Kaga made (regarding FE1, maybe? I don't remember) about trying to keep the game user-friendly by trying his best to do exactly as you said, let players feel the strength of their characters without needed to work through all the numbers. Dunno where I was going with this, it just stuck out to me and I felt I should share.

"Does that mean you shouldn't use unmounted units? Hell no" I can already sense a certain section of the fanbase foaming at the mouth in rage.

Man I started playing Genealogy for a while and then I just... Stopped. I don't know why, it's already my favorite game ever made just based on the 2.5 chapters I played (including the prologue). I know I lost a lot of progress because I forgot to save, but idk why that would make me *this* reluctant to go back. Anyways, rewatching this video has given me the determination to go back and play that game. Thank you, you beautiful man.

Started out with sacred stones back in the day, and although I've played all the other games released in the US to date, I think genealogy is my favorite so far. Looking forward to finishing it then starting 776. Keep up the good work!

I was unknowingly playing a hack for FE4 that made it much harder than usual and was planning on quitting until I found out it was a hack from watching gameplay footage of mang’s walkthrough. Can’t wait to try this game again under much better circumstances.

As someone who first got into FE with the 3DS games and is now going back through the older games, I'm grateful for you and other FE youtubers for selling me on the older/more obscure games in the series. I'm probably gonna give Genealogy a try after I finish my current playthrough of Blazing Blade.

This is probably the most concise and straightforward way of describing how to play my favorite fire emblem. What I like about this game is the love system, future titles really neuter the player if they don’t make pairings but this title offers sub characters to accommodate for anyone’s play style

Would very much love a play through where, after giving thorough analysis on each ring in the game and who would most benefit from it, you followed it with “I’m gonna give it to Arden.”

It is excellent new player advice when you show & explain that you should be giving XP to your other units. This wasn't clear to me at all during my first playthrough and I just threw Sigurd at everything. 5 chapters later with approximately 95% of my other units dead, I had to restart the whole game because I could not get past a duo of mages with sleep staves
