I just watched this today and about fell out of my chair. The tree (people) that was used in the video are the ones I'm researching for my mother. She was adopted in 1943 and this is her mystery side of her. I couldn't believe it. I'm completely speechless!

I like alot of these changes. However, Ancestry needs to have a drop down viewer of the surrounding family members of the person you are researching. Just something you can mouse over so that you can quick view. Because sometimes, when you are deep into it, you need to just quickly remind yourself of who the surrounding generations are. It's why a lot of people keep a full tree version open in another tab and just alt tab back and forth from it.

In your "Ancestry Icons" section, you state that the drop down for trees will access all of your trees. I have about a dozen trees to work theories and found that the drop down only shows a couple trees; you have to go to the main "Tree" tab above it to and go to "Create and Manage Trees" to see all of them. The main "Tree" tab will show only show about 8-9 unless going to manage. Thanks for your great content!

The focus person can also be changed by clicking on the profile picture in the tree, clicking on the wrench and select View his / her family tree. It's also a fast way to edit tags.

Thanks! I simply love the collapsible tree segments! The ability to focus on a single spouse is nice too. Now, if Ancestry could get around to better overall tree management, i.e. splitting with source citations, I'd be thrilled. What started as what I thought would be a brief branch up the paternal tree has become a pre-colonial romp through history and I want to capture every facet, direct line or otherwise! It needs to be it's own tree but the effort is manually intensive.

Thanks for this information, Connie. I knew about the visited person trail at the bottom of the screen, but I had no clue about how to maintain the focus person. I had never clicked that button up beside the tree name. Thank you also for pointing out that we can now see the relationships of other people in the tree from the perspective of the focus person. That will be a big help! Have a blessed weekend. :)

Hi there. To generalize the name of two things....the three horizontal lines, one above another, is called a "hamburger" in tech talk...you called it a bullet list. The panel highlighting popping up on the right (or left) is call a sidebar. When will Ancestry add and drag and drop feature? Or are their ways to color code individual name cells? Or even add icons....i.e. I have quite a bit of royalty, would love to put a "crown" on those folks......a knights head for a knight....etc....

I love the new tools. Always wondered how I found two spouses for one person and now I can see how they're connected!! Two things are missing though - the downward arrow for the siblings' families, and the 'bullet points' for other spouses. I'm in the UK so maybe those options aren't available here.

View in tree has always existed. Nothing new about that. Ancestry and other sites seem to constantly change their format, display and navigation. I think they call it a upgrade. I call it "hiding the needle in more haystacks". Whenever I get used to their haystacks, they change it and I have to learn it all over again. I wish they would show the dna segments shared like other websites do. Also, I wish they would make it available to view matches with smaller segments shared--like other websites. Make it a premium feature, perhaps. I know that would make the number of matches increase tremendously and there is already a huge number of matches as is. So. make it optional, maybe. I do like the new feature of being able to view the ThruLines directly from the tree! This is a time saver!

Very helpful So I am a Henley through my 2nd great grandmother who was born about 1830 in Devonshire. No known brothers or uncles or aunts. We have her father's information but only have her grandfather"s name. Too many men with that name to find the grandfather and probably too far back for DNA to help so I haven't done DNA. Most of my lines are done Into the 1700 or earlier.

I found the DNA viewing options yesterday after watching your video and thought this could be useful. Been back to my tree again today and those DNA options are missing now. Grrrrr. Edit: Sorted. This feature only works with the tree you have linked to your DNA test. I'd switched to another tree and (its obvious now) this tree could not see my DNA details.

I have built my family tree in MyHeritage, using their platform and paying there for several years. I am looking to break those ties as I really don't think that they are helping very much anymore. I get tons of messages telling me of "matches", when in reality they really are not matches at all. Of course, I heard you warn of that before anyway, so I am always wary of those alerts. I am looking for a nice, stand-alone family tree software where I can import my GEDCOM file and continue to add family members as my research helps me. Do you have any suggestions?

Hi Connie, I love your videos, they are always very well done and informative. The best genealogy videos on the internet in my opinion. I was wondering since you’re well respected in genealogy circles, by any chance do you have a “hotline” to the “head honchos” at Ancestry? Can you suggest or put forth a request that they increase the number of groups that we’re able to organize our dna matches into? The limit of 24 groups just isn’t enough for those of us that like to organize our dna matches into grandparent couples groups as you’ve shown in your grouping dna matches video. I currently have 8-2nd great grandparent groups and 16-3rd great grandparent groups which takes up all my 24 groups but I have dna matches/cousins who our MRCA is really a 4th, 5th or 6th great grandparent, so if Ancestry expanded the amount of groups to allow me to create groups for the 4th, 5th, and 6th great grandparents, then I could more accurately organize those matches and I feel it could benefit my research and everyone else who likes to group their dna matches. I wrote Crista Cowan about it and Ancestry a couple years back but I never saw any change, yet they change the graphics and overall look and certain functions fairly frequently which I don’t find as useful as the groups. The ability to filter dna matches by groups is the most helpful tool of all of their dna tools in my opinion. If they perhaps added the numbers 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 to the colored groups, (still with the ability to filter0, might be one way to re-use the same colors but with a number inside the colored circle. I’d love to see Ancestry add that and also a chromosome browser like MyHeritage has and the ability to see the amount of dna each match shares with each of our commonly shared match (also a feature in MyHeritage). Okay, sorry for rambling, I hope next time you have a live chat with Crista Cowan or any of the heads of Ancestry, that you’ll consider my suggestions if they seem beneficial to you as well. Thanks for your great videos!

Those hints sometimes are not necessary direct relatives and sometimes they even get the wrong relationship. I have a hint that keeps popping up from my grandfather but I know it doesn’t belong to him because my grandfather was born in Mexico this other man has the same name ( which is a very rare last name) but is from another country Uruguay , their middle names and birth days don’t match either . I keep putting no but ancestry keeps showing this person idk maybe they are very far relatives like 6/7 cousin but so far I haven’t find any connections.
