I love your tips, and I have done most of what you suggest over my 50 years of searching, but I have gotten used to my disappointing dead ends. My paternal great-great grandparent's names are not known. I'm going to keep plugging away though. Thanks for the suggestions!

It was far easier to just listen to this great advice. The constant switching of the two views as you were talking (one looked a bit blurry) was too much. The screen within a screen was fine. Just some feedback for your consideration Connie.

Connie ... are you ever able to pass on suggestions to Ancestry? Or Krista? I would love Ancestry to provide a page attached to your tree that you can explain your tree. (Not on the profile page) i have a private tree so I'd like it to only be shown to people i let view my tree. Maybe you can choose whether its shown to everyone. (whether your tree is public or not)

Got a question about Wiki Tree at the end of the video. You said that every person in the tree has records attached to them via hyperlink but what happens when links go bad (ie link rot)?
@GenealogyTV8 ай бұрын
Well, I guess somebody needs to then find the new links and change them. But it’s going to be up to the users to do that. WikiTree is not going to do it. It’s entirely a volunteer user-based system.

If you invite someone to see your tree and they have a free ancestry membership... can they see photos and stories you have in a persons gallery page?
@GenealogyTV8 ай бұрын
That's a good question, I don't know. I'll try to ask when I'm at RootsTech.

Good question. Id like to know the answer myself to.

I would love to talk to my family about my tree however everyone from my parents on up are dead and I have half sisters and half brothers, most of which I don't have a relationship with and an uncle who thinks my genealogy search is just stupid 😞

I find ancestry quite good value. They do have millions of records from all over the world and increasing every day. The pro tools seem overpriced though.

Great video, I have a free account at Ancestry, but it won’t let me attach anything. I used my free trial already.

How do I get to the World Tree view on Family Search. When I click tree it only shows me my tree that I started. Thank you for your help.
@janwhitaker24308 ай бұрын
Not Connie, but hope I can help. When you see the tree, you are seeing the world tree. Think of it as a vast library of people and you are one book. You just happen to be starting with you as the entry point. Each book/person in the tree has a profile. The other thing to realise is that there can be multiple profiles for the same person because people add them, just like you could find multiple copies of the same book, only different publishers - paper back, hard back, audio, etc. But they are still the same story. Or there may be slight differences. But to answer your question, when you click the tree, you are looking at the World shared tree. Hope that helps
