thank you for this. I have the 10000w and is only a few years old. Wouldn't start. Pulled carb. down to the jet-which was clogged. Cleaned out and reassembled poured in fresh gas-1 pull and fired right up. This video saved me some cash and I am the hero of the household-the garage is now "Where Champions Are Made" Plus after this ice storm I have power in the house. Thanks.!!!!

Having an endless cranking issue on my 8kw Generac. not many hours on it (under 40). Works with ether in the cleaner but not without. Changed the fuel out still will not run. Guess Im looking in the carb next! This was a sudden issue. Ran when I needed it and the next time it didnt. Great video. Thanks for the info.

This is a common problem and happens so often when people test it right before a big storm. Works great then it is tried to be started when needed and doesn't. Very strange how that works. Thanks for watching!

Just used this video to take apart my RS8000E carburetor and clean it up. I bought the unit used, and it only has 22 hours on it. I forgot to run it. What's really weird is the fuel shutoff. When I take the fuel line off the carb, the fuel flows when it's on Run (2) or Off (3) and it's closed on Start (1). Something must be backwards. There should be fuel for Start and Run, and closed for Off.

Great video. My issue was a completely hosed gas tank. I'm told ethanol issue. One thing I'm noticing on your video is that there is a fuel filter between fuel tank and the input on the back of the Power dial. There were, however, on my rig 2 filters between the output on the back of the Power Dial and the carburetor. I'm going to guess that one of those filters should be move to the position between the fuel tank and the input on the back of the Power dial. The question is whether there could be an issue in the input vs output on the back of the power dial. Again, this fuel tank was hosed with water, gunk, rust. - I'm going to set up a marine plastic tank or maybe even some after market tank. The cost ($400 +) for a new tank is just not economical for the cost of this model ($550 RS5500). I'll follow your carb cleaning to the tee. I'm sure some of that junk got down to the jets holes. Anyway, I would appreciate any feedback regarding the Power Dial input/output issue. An thanks for the excellent video.

Dial could definitely be partially clogged. Doesn't take much of a drip of gas to run this small though. Make sure it has a steady stream to the carburetor

@@IndRepair My RS8000E is having the same issue. I have clean gas in the tank yet the flow from the dial to the carb does not happen. How do I check to see if the dial is clogged? I have about 55 hours on this machine, yet it is frustrating to not see gas flow. I've also wondered if there is some sort of electronic issue within the dial that does not allow the gas to flow. I'd be appreciative of an answer or at least a link to a website or KZbin video that addresses how to clean the plumbing behind the starting dial. Thanks.

@@tynyyn5344 You can take it all apart and there is just a regular fuel shut off behind the dial. There is wiring but that is for the kill it does not have anything to do with the fuel flow

@@IndRepair Thanks for the info. I appreciate you getting back to me with an answer. I looked at the Generac schematic and it shows just a fuel cut off switch like you've explained. Now I'm wondering if the gasoline level might be too low. Needs for gas than a quarter of a tank according to some folks on other forums. But I will continue to keep searching. Thanks again!

Anybody else notice that he put the fuel line on backwards? No problem as long as the filter is not directional.

So I plan on purchasing one of these in the next 6 months due to rural area.. But I do have natural gas and I plan on getting the conversion for it.. is there any kind of maintenance that I have to do if I plan on running natural gas? Thanks

Definitely annual maintenace to make it last longer. Replace oil, oil filter, air filter and spark plug. Making sure whatever kit you use has a good sediment trap incorporated on the input line will save you hassle in the future! Thanks for watching!

I just bought the same one the other day and it wouldn’t turn over, the battery was discharged (only 10 volts) so I put the charger on it will try and start it tomorrow.

Yeah I thought the same thing too so instead of screwing around with the old carburetor getting again I bought a brand new one guess what didn't solve my problem now what

Many times the brand new carburetors need opened up and cleaned because quality control is horrible. Did you try to start on starting fluid or do any other diagnostics or just replace the carburetor? Have you checked anything else?

When I got the generator someone had messed up the governor linkage been it all up run wide open. Straighten the government linkage out at idle down but started revving up and down. I then check the fuel and it had water in it so I drained the tank took the carburetor off clean the carburetor put it all back together same thing took the carburetor back off cleaned it again put it back on still the same thing taking it off five times and cleaned it and got fed up bought a new carburetor put it on same problem. I have never had one be this big of a pain if you screw in the idle screw to where it starts to bump it won't surge choke it whatever still surges unless you screw in the idle screw to where it starts touching momentarily on the linkage not direct contact but just bumping it

I would replace those linkages and gaskets between carburetor and block to make sure you don't have an air leak

I wondered that the rod was so badly bent and twisted up I straightened it out on my anvil with the ball paint hammer very lightly little taps I wondered if it stretched the rod Amazon has a spring and rod for 11 to 13 horse not for sure if that's the same one I need though I can't find it anywhere else

I bought this model recently and I see no information about an oil filter for this unit anywhere in the manual. I have looked all over it too and don’t see one. Am I blind?

There is not an oil filter on this unit or most small units. The debris is supposed to stay on the bottom and they use a slinger on the bottom of the connecting rod to splash oil around the inside of the crankcase to keep everything lubricated. Thanks for watching!

@@IndRepair did my 30 hour run in oil change yesterday morning and still running fine. I went with pennzoil platinum full synthetic 5w-30. Day 3 of no power here. (I didn’t buy this until the second day in case anyone wonders about the hours being off) 😂

The fuel shut off on this is built into the start switch. As you turn the knob the fuel is turned on or off

Many of them are made pretty much the same anymore engine wise but I will say the generator power head part of the Generac does seem better made and heavier duty than the rest in my opinion. Thanks for watching!
