Just went under anesthesia this morning, first time going under in 22 years for a ruptured Achilles. Honestly it happened so fast I don’t remember feeling dizzy or anything. I remember talking with a nurse about trying to snag a teaching spot with the oxygen mask on for this upcoming school year (after I hopped over to the surgical table), then honest to God I was waking up in the recovery room it was amazing. Before I even realized it was starting it was over, and the sleep was extremely peaceful. Extremely impressed with how I was taken care of at Minnesota Valley Surgery this morning , and I want this comment to rest anyone who might be nervous to be receiving anesthesia!

A few days before the surgery, I was very scared. But somehow I became very calm on the surgery day. The nurses and the anesthesiologists were very caring and giving me such peace by their care. As a result, I wasn't scared at all and I still have no idea when I fell asleep. Many thanks to Dr. Benjamin Gruber, the nurses, and the anesthesiologists at Mercy Hospital of Chicago. Now I really like the sleeping state. It was wonderful. Thank God for these angels who took very good care of me.

I've only been under general anesthesia once (for my wisdom teeth removal--two of which had to be ground out). While I felt no pain, I actually _do_ remember feeling/hearing the buzzing of them grinding them out. I wasn't conscious, but I do remember the sensation during a dream-like state (again, it wasn't painful).

Just had surgery and I’m fascinated by how the anesthesia works. Last thing I remember was a nurse asking me if I’m okay to scoot on to the surgical bed. (The anesthesiologist had already placed the drug in my IV a few moments prior) My transport bed was placed next to it and so I said yes, I can move over. Then all of a sudden in a blink of an eye, I’m in the recovery room. 3 hours later! The nurse with me recalled the events, I was still awake and alert after I scooted onto the surgical bed. They spoke to me for a bit and told me to count down from 10. They said I only made it to 8 before I knocked out. It’s wild that I don’t remember that part at all!

Today, I’ve done my tonsillectomy surgery under general anaesthesia, Thanks god I finally got the courage and it went all smoothly. I’m 25 years old and never done any surgery as such in my entire life and I was quite concerned on how the anaesthesia could work. 2 days ago, I’ve read many comments in this video about peoples’ experiences which most of them were quite positive like it was much easier than they thought. And I found out It was very easy, after I got the injection, I looked at the top and started to count from 10, when I reached 5, I already felt it and closed my eyes, the next thing I remember was when I was waking up and telling the nurses to take me back to my family in the recovery room and that time, I wasn’t fully conscious yet but several minutes I’ve completely woken up. For anyone is having a surgery with general anaesthesia, no need to worry at all, have a faith and do it. You don’t know until you do it.

I required general anesthesia for a broken heel bone surgery. Several friends of mine (and even my prep nurse) who have had this done before assured me that within literal seconds of receiving the anesthesia gas-mine was through IV-you immediately fall into sleep and wake up what feels like seconds later. I’m here to tell you that this is NO exaggeration: my eyes closed one moment and opened the next. My surgery was 3 hours long and felt as though it were done in a literal moment. Quite an amazing experience, really.

Fact : You can wake up during anesthesia. It's called Anesthesia awareness and it's very rare to happen. Anesthesia awareness only happens if anesthesia is administered improperly or the medical equipment used to monitor it fails. This means that the probability that someone will experience it has nothing to do with their biology, health or anything like that. It is caused by failing medical equipment or doctor error, it could be anything, inadequate of drug dose, inadequate monitoring, failure to refill the anesthetic machine's vaporisers with volatile anesthetic, malfunctioning intravenous pump or disconnection of its delivery tubing, problems with flowmeters or monitors, unfamiliarity with techniques used, intravenous anesthetic regimes, or inexperience. Patient may or may not feel pain. A patient can seek compensation through a therapy or malpractice lawsuit. The type of anesthesia you get depends on the nature of the procedure being performed, your age and overall health, and the preferences of the surgeon and anesthesia provider (anesthesiologist). With some procedures, you may be able to choose between different types of anesthesia, while other procedures require a specific type. Patients who experience full awareness with explicit recall may have suffered an enormous trauma. Some patients experience post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), leading to long lasting after effects such as nightmares, night terrors, flashbacks, insomnia, and in some cases even suicide. Early psychological counselling and support can reduce the amount of harm and chances of developing PTSD. The patient must be treated sympathetically and with compassion.

I got to 3 and next thing I know I was waking up in a recovery room with at least 8 other kids passed out. That whole day felt like some type of weird dream but it felt strangely pleasant. They prescribed me hydrocodone and sent me home. I remember the next several days my gums were in constant pain. Probably between a 4-6 on the pain scale. Thankfully I had my medication and after about a week the pain went away entirely i didnt freak out like some people after surgery but I remember feeling drugged for the rest of that day.

I have gone through this process many times, whenever they injected something in my vein, before that I tears automatically flew through my eyes. I know after this am going to sleep. That feeling after injection is so damn beautiful, it provides complete relaxation. Then they always told me to inhale via gas mask, and always said it is oxygen, as I am a kid. Thanks allot to all the doctors who were there with me at that time. Moreover thanks to God for giving me this much strength to bare it all. I literally cried again, while watching it.

It feels great because they pump you full of fentanyl or other opiods lol. Which is good; it’s a backup. Even IF you somehow maintain a sliver of consciousness you’ll be too drugged up to feel anything. Plus, it garuntees that you don’t wake up after surgery in crippling pain. I was kind of shocked when I found out “woah you put THAT in me?!” But eh, those drugs are dangerous BECAUSE they’re so danm effective.

I had to get sinus surgery last year and I was most nervous about being put to sleep. They made me change into this weird gound and hat (I’m a dude). They gave me medicine to help me relax and I was shaking super hard cause I was nervous to be put to sleep as my parents laughed and reassured me I’d be fine. I got wheeled back to the operating room, moved to the table, then they told me to count to 10 and I don’t think I got passed 1, I slowly awoke in the post op room with my parents and I was awake but didn’t want to open my eyes because of pain in my sinuses. I started talking about how I was a fish then about Russia for some reason lol. Long story short, don’t be worried about being put to sleep, it’s fast and you don’t know a thing

You would think making such a video you would at least say that general anesthesia consists of a coctail of drugs, not suggest it is just one. - There is always a hypnotic, a sedative to make you 'sleep'. - There is a paralytic, a muscle relaxer, bc even when you are 'asleep', there can be muscle movement. Not handy if a surgeon is cutting and your arm starts flailing. - There is an analgetic, pain medication, bc even while 'asleep', the brain does register pain. Not applying pain medication during surgery may result in psychological trauma. Often these medications overlap/span fields and increase eachothers effectiveness. It is ofcourse mostly bc of the paralytic aspect, which can/will influence heart and lungs function, that these vital functions are continuously monitored and/or are artificially kept active.

@MrHenners12 As I know,there are more different anesthetic agents with different functions. The most common IV agent is Propofol. (But fentanyl,morphin,thyopenthal,etc. can also be used) Gases are evaporated liquid anesthetic agents such as halothane, enflurane, isoflurane, desflurane, and sevoflurane,mixed with oxygene and N2O as a carrier.

Had general anesthesia yesterday because of a hernia surgery. Buttery smooth, inhaled the gas, got tired, everything looked bright in my closed eyes. Woke up in the wake-up room. I’ve always wondered how general anesthesia worked. When I went down under local sedation for wisdom teeth removed at 21 and a colonoscopy at 51, I felt myself go drowsy, then woke up 30-45 minutes later. When I had a total knee replacement March of last year, I was doped up on benzos, went into an ice cold operating room, and sat up to get a needle stuck in my spine to deaden the pain, then told to lie down. Remembered absolutely nothing and woke up 2 1/2 hours later in pain. Knee number 2 in 2 months. I’ll make sure this time I remember what happens and be vigilant despite being doped up on happy juice. I guess general anesthesia works much faster and doesn’t happen eventually. And I didn’t have an anesthesiologist do it, it was a CRNA. I didn’t know they were allowed to do such a thing and thought it was an MD’s job to do it.

My experience was I was lying and was very comfortable as was mentioned in the video. I had full control over my body and 1 or 2 seconds later i was gone (its exactly like falling asleep you dont remember how and when you fell asleep thats what they mean by memory loss in the video) and when you wake up you probably will feel the stitches and feel too powerless and tired which you are. You will rest and probably have a hard time urinate (i couldnt urinate for 4 hours after the surgery) after that some resting and you get up and after some time youre alright and good as usual.

Message to those who are nervous for their surgery: I'm a female teen who just had her first surgery, I remember being absolutely terrified for it - the general idea of surgery and anesthetics to me seemed so painful and daunting. Anesthesia works like a charm, the drug dosages for you are all carefully pre calculated by the anesthesiologist prior to the operation, so the chances of you waking up during surgery, or not waking up after are really really rare, besides, the anesthesiologist and nurses will be carefully monitoring your vital signs during surgery. If you're under general anesthesia (which I was) you will not feel pain at all or remember a single thing, and the surgeons/doctors/nurses are all professional so you are in good hands during the surgery. I remember the doctor saying, "We're going to start", and within 3 seconds, I fell asleep and the next thing I know is that I'm in the recovery room. Hope this helps to anyone who's reading it, good luck!! Also, watching this video (but especially reading the comments) really helped calm my nerves. So thank you so much!!

Is there any difference between local anesthesia and general anesthesia?
@untitledsouppng
@untitledsouppng 6 жыл бұрын
I would like to get this triple checked, but I believe local anesthesia is for smaller areas of the body, like what nurses rub on your arm before giving you a vaccine, where as general anesthesia is to just numb the entire body; think local area vs general area. Ex. General= United States, local= the town you live in, etc.
@sumaiasultana3139
@sumaiasultana3139 6 жыл бұрын
Local anesthesia is used to numb little parts for operation. You will be full awake and see doctors doibg things but you won't feel anything on that part. On the other hand general anesthesia is medically induced coma where you will be sleeping but will not feel anything. In GA oxygen needs to be given by a tube through mouth.
