Two months ago when my mom was suffering from covid, she was placed on a ventilator and was on it for 3 weeks and we didn’t know if she was gonna make it. She is a middle aged woman who had a kidney transplant and has diabetes so her immune system isn’t strong at all. Fortunately she survived and eventually received breathing therapy and can breath on her own again. Now she is receiving physical therapy and is improving every day 🙏🏼 I am forever grateful and I wish everyone who is going through this with a loved one the best and to stay hopeful

I spent in excess of a year on one of these.. Multi organ failure sepsis caused Ards, rhabdomyolysis, renal failure and respiratory failure. Then more than 2 years in hospital recovery for septic shock. I also had a tracheotomy. Learn to walk again it was awful and even 4 years later the lasting effects of being in a coma that long is something that I have to live with every single day. Please don't write rubbish like pray for me and stuff like this. The staff at the hospital that I stayed in went out of their way and everything that they could to Save My Life and they did that alone nobody else. I saw how much work it was. When I was on the high dependency Ward nursem intensive care I still had a nurse sit next to me 24-hours a day to watch Me and case I went downhill. The amount of equipment drugs medication and training and everything else that goes into keeping someone alive is absolutely amazing. This is the first time I've ever been in hospital and certainly the first time I've ever had a blood transfusion. Make everyday like it's your last because you never know when life will be taken away from you.

Great feedback! We agree, and will create a new version substituting "doctor" with a synonym indicating "provider". Another technique is using the passive voice narration, e.g. "The patient will be intubated" vs "The provider will intubate the patient." Thanks again!

I stopped mouth breathing unless absolutely necessary, even when exercising, 3. I did light mouth taping at night in order to ensure nose breathing all night, 4. I do an simple exercise to reset my CO2 trigger for triggering breathing so I don't breathe so much.

@@mpumie3110 I agree. The biggest problems were two things: not only did the doctor tell him to stay home and “ride it out”, they ignored my mother in law’s phone calls and would not return a call when he worsened. He stayed at home for TEN DAYS, getting worse. It actually took my brother in law flying to their city from Los Angeles to convince him to go to the hospital. If he had just went sooner... he may have had a chance. But by the time he got there, it was pretty much too late. He had already had pneumonia and his oxygen would drop into the 70s without the C-PAP. :/ we didn’t know this at the time but he only had a 5% chance of surviving when they placed him on the vent. Nobody was told because mother in law wanted to keep the faith and not have everyone worry as much. :( -sigh- it was a horrific time.

Very informative . Please do more videos on how to checkout wheather the ventilator mechine is working properly or not when a patient is put on ventilator. As a nurse I want to know which parameters help a nurse to find out it is working or not?

I had this when I had Covid. It was very painful that I attempted to remove it. The only time I stopped to attempt to remove it was when the nurses told me aggresively that I will die if I pull it. 🥺 Thank u Jesus for saving me. 😔😭🙏

Here in 2020 as well. I’m now also wondering if this process was done when I had surgery years ago. I wondered why my throat hurt / was scratchy afterwards! I was very young and didn’t think much of it. Now I see the extensive process behind that..

My doctor did this procedure to me while I was AWAKE the whole time. Most terrifying experience of my life. It took an hour because of my gag reflex . I could not talk and I could not breathe. I started to panic hard once he got it into place but they hit me with meds extremely fast to knock me out.
