Before AI is developed on a massive, all-pervasive level, I'd think the developers and promoters of AI should spend at least an equal amount of time PRIOR TO this development, conducting major, in-depth studies of not only the potential dangers, but the solutions to those dangers and air their findings in public alongside their "primrose path" promotions of AI---like the warnings on medicine packaging that discuss in detail the potential side effects. And, even more importantly, they should develop a comprehensive plan in great detail talking about what exact new jobs will be created across the board, from people who will have, say, zero interest in pursuing a life in technology, laborers, the less educated (and even non-teachable people who simply will not have the aptitude for this "information age" work) etc and present this to the public before everyone jumps in with both feet into this AI-AGE. Meaning, there should be a comprehensive plan to solve at least the bulk of the likely problems that will be the result of world-wide implementation of automated robots, and the general take over of jobs currently being done by actual living people.

The fact that AI is driven to be an adaptable machine makes it completely different. Typically machines are designed to do a single task. An adaptable machine is more like you. These bots can make more bots and as they get smarter they will replace over 80% of the tasks we do now. No ONE is safe with AI. Doctors, Lawyers, Accountants, XRay technicians, nurses, soldiers, programmers. This wave is moving faster every day. IMO, the future can go one of two ways, dystopian or the Star Trek. We are on a ticking clock of less than 50 years.

It's hard for the human mind to see exponential growth... I'm fairly certain because of so many advancements that GI AI is likely less then 15 years away. At which point so many things will begin changing so quickly that humanity will in effect cease to exist. I guess something like that would be frightening to most... But I've always seen the unknown as a chance to grow and become better. Or it could lead to death... But that's gonna happen no matter what. so I may as well try to embrace what's coming and drive it in the direction I see as best for me and those around me.

The AI people always gloss over this whole "there will be new jobs" think without offering any solid plan. I want to see heavily-researched lists and a big-picture plan from their side in GREAT DETAIL, to convince us that it'll all work out. I feel that is their responsibility. For those who say "well, that can't be done/it's too complicated/that can't be predicted", I say, right there, that shows up the big danger, the hole in their thinking. I want to know what the problems will be and that a solution is at hand, and that they actually have one!

The AI people never put forth a detailed plan and list all the new jobs that will be available not only for current levels of world population, but for that ever-growing one. It's like they say "everything will be great", but never address and provide detailed lists of the new jobs that will open up, how they will be implemented across the globe across the wide variety of cultures and levels of development. It certainly feels like they're simply putting their faith in "oh, something will be figured out", rather than presenting a real plan. And given the enormity of what they are proposing in the long-run, it seems it'd be better to FIRST have a well-worked out solution for the loss of jobs that will naturally come from the wide expansion of AI into every aspect of our lives.

This is a glowing speech for "all in" AI but at the same time she seems to completely ingnore any possible negative impact.. that is to me extremely scary. The phrase "Humans are the only creatures in the Universe that can make decisions under unknown circumstances" is just an example for so many absolutes that are to me rather naive but at least unscientific in this speech. We should not proceed like this with a technology as potent as AI. AI needs rules and safety otherwise it might cause unimaginable havoc and as Prof. Hawking said, might be the last invention of humankind....

It's the best thing that could ever happen if general purpose automation replaces humans on everything that we do. At that point the rich no longer control the world because there's no longer a need for money. And that is the future that is coming which I find interesting because the great irony is that the very people who want to keep their wealth to maintain control will be the ones that usher in the age of general-purpose AI because it's cheaper than workers. They will be so blinded by their greed that they won't see the cliff coming until it's too late. They will try to pull it back and make humans the workers again so they can maintain the status quo but the genie will be out of the bottle.

You only need to know a few things about technology... 1. It is insinuated, not offered. You can't even communicate without it. 2. Since 2001, the disparity of wealth has increased 10 fold. 3. You now must fit into one of the sanctioned categories or be ostracized, minimalized, and isolated, lest you are a threat to the narrative. 4. It's only getting worse, as it empowers anyone who does not care for humans, but are self centered and mediocre, thereby impoverishing those who are the better humans.

It never ceases to amaze me how these experts in this field seem to be in a huge rush to get GAI online without seriously contemplating the possible dangers underlying such a development. Seems to me,an almost deliberate reluctance to mention the fact that there reaches a point once AI's start upgrading software atonomously that a exponential "intelligence explosion" is a serious possibility wherein very quickly human controls likely would be beyond our ability to install in our own creations. How long would it be that these AI's would far exceed even our ability to even comprehend them, or they, us? Reaching singularity, they would be as uncomprehensible to is as advanced alien voyager's from beyond our galaxy. At best, humanity would be superflous to an artificial superntelligence and at worst, possibly perceived as a complete nuisance. To be fair, there are definite benefits, to be sure. But do the benefits out weigh the risks?

It is worth listening to educated opinions about the very realistically possible, very serious problems that can arise from AI---the overuse of it. I don't feel that people who are making a living at and are funded to do AI development are the most dependable people to listen to. I'd recommend, to start with, giving a listen to the concerns of very rationale NON-luddites like Sam Harris to get at least the beginning of an education about the potential dangers of AI's development.

Dilyan - The first person to live forever has already been born. The next 3-5 years you are going to see Amazon, Walmart, and every major company on earth switch to autonomous, driverless vehicles. In the next 10 years you will see AI designed for manufacturing products on its own, this AI could be imbued with the knowledge of all fields of science and the laws of every country, with the understanding of purchasing habits of people. You will have personal AI on a device you carry with you diagnose your physical condition, warning you of any issues, so that you can go to a hospital where AI with the understanding of every medical journal that has ever existed, can diagnose prevent and cure you of things that doctors today haven't even heard of yet. AI will analyze the stock market, and with all the information ever written about economics, with the instantaneous mathematical capability of 1,000 Einsteins, will give more accurate and more reliable predictions and information to people in every industry, so that we can make the best decisions possible. Will humans be phased out? No, but eventually we will not be needed for any of our skills, or for any of our labor, because there will be AI and robotics capable of taking the whole of human knowledge, that up until then had only been locked away and fragmented between many many human minds, books, scientific journals, mathematical formulas, KZbin videos, and many many other places, and could combine that all into one database. All of human knowledge, unrestricted by different languages, thinking instantly without the limitations of human senses. I see the future with AI or multiple AIs conceptualizing, designing, manufacturing, and building anything humans can desire, and delivering them to our AI designed and built houses, where we as humans live free of disease and aging, in a world powered by endless clean nuclear fusion and solar power. Within 75 years, the world will be so radically different than anything the average person can imagine today, but that children being born today will surely know. Anything we want could potentially be ours, but only if we humans don't completely ruin it all out of greed fear and ignorance before we ever get there.

She talks about that AI is and will be a tool for us, and not a separate species. I think one day the AI will be a separate species. Not now, but the evolution of AI will be much more faster as the human evolution. The question this time will be "is the AI species much more better as the human species? ". Cause the human species is not the best species here in the world. We make wars for oil and money. Millions of people don't have some to eat, and in our western countries more and more people falls deep in the poorest area. Perhaps the "species IA will know the word EQUALITY or Dignity", cause we don't know these words until these words will touch us.

It's 2019 and my prediction for the year 2039 is that everyone will have general purpose robots in their house that they will download apps to for any type of new activity they want it to do. So if you want your general purpose bot to wash dishes you just download the dishes app and the same goes with painting the house or fixing the car. So after a while they have this massive storage of things they can do better than you could ever do and in essence at that point we all no longer need to work.

Dayra talks about studying history or becoming an artist as though we will be living in a socialist utopia after robots and AI take over all the mundane jobs. It’s either naivety or willful ignorance not to fear the economic repercussions of inexpensive advanced AI. Companies will take full advantage of its profit potential or they will lose to their competitors. This is happening already and will continue to happen until it reaches a critical state. UBI isn’t really the answer either. It will just be another bandaid on the inherently flawed and soon to be completely obsolete capitalist economic model. People need to start getting over their sentimental attachments to a system that simply just won’t be adequate anymore.

AI does not exist. Intelligence is the ability to learn through experience. All devices which process information by addressing 2 active (or more) states of an electron are not performing intelligent action, rather carrying out instructions based on althrothyms in coded form. Perhaps in a hundred years if mankind survives and continues to improve machines based on the current learning curve, then perhaps a computer may have the ability to learn. This concept is simple, yet impossible for computers as we know them today. So called "Quantum computing" is fantasy because it is NOT true computing on a quantum scale by actually manipulating all active 32 states of an electron, but rather aligning electrons on a molecular level to achieve a desired goal. There is no learning only processing instructions by programmers.
