It's more that it makes him look weak, just like when wrestlers tap out early. In reality, sure, take what fights you can get, live to fight another day, etc. But if someone can't get ANY wins then they're not going to come across as an intimidating character and Grievous's whole "always runs away" policy ensured he'd NEVER be able to get any real wins because you're not going to run off laughing if you're in control of the situation. Pretty much any successes they could have given him would have helped a lot. Instead, he just ended up being the Team Rocket of Star Wars, except he's also implied to also be super strong because he has a bunch of stolen lightsabers...??? Seriously, George Lucas... the heck were you even thinking with this.... It's such an awkward middle ground that doesn't completely work as a cowardly planning type or as the ferocious Jedi Hunter type.

How can anyone not love such a sick, crazy, robot, skeleton, lizard man who uses his robot body to give him actual advantages? The only problem I have is with him being a sickly coward which, while not a BAD thing, is kind-of weak when it's juxtaposed with him supposedly being this super competent, dangerous, Jedi hunter. I kind-of wish they would have either gone with him being the badass he was in the cartoon or a full-on coward who preferred to out-think his opponents, but still, he's easily one of my personal favorite characters in the mythos. .... Too bad he'll never be in the new trilogy, though.... But hopefully, one day, they make someone whose somewhat on the same level of memorability as Grievous.

Ever since the clone wars microseries Grievous became my favorite character, and when I saw him on screen my stomach dropped. I was so massively dissapointed. Grievous was actually THE main reason I was excited for ep.3 and he was so vastly opposite of how he was portrayed in the cartoon. In the cartoon he was TERRIFYING. Not a coward in any sense. He made his ENEMIES run away and he could not only hold his own against a dozen Jedi masters but take them out with relative ease. That's a much better character than what we got. I also wish they had kept his entire design to porcelain white. The solitary white has an eerie aesthetic to it which lends itself well to the menacing visage of grievous.

Grievous original backstory was much better/involved far more world-building. It actually included a good deal of history about him and his relationship to his people and their conflict with another alien species which the Republic and the Jedi sided with, even though they where the aggressors, due to the Republic's bloated political structure not bothering with finding out what was really going on. This was the source of Grievous hatred for the Republic and especially the Jedi and is a damn stronger motivation for his character then being salty over the equivalent of not being chosen to play on the Jedi's kickball team. In other words, the Republic and the Jedi, through their carelessness and callousness, created this monster that ended up murdering billions including many Jedi and helped ultimately destroy the Republic.

I’m not usually into scary characters but I watched the movie recently. I think the scenes with him in are so beautifully designed. I love how he appears hunched over , coughing and moves in a really sickly way throughout the movie then when he fights obi wan he stands upright , then shows he has 4 arms, then he spins them showing he has some skill , then he spins his lightsabers rapidly. That’s what I liked about him and how they filmed. There’s a constant upward escalation with how cool he is. The first part of the movie he’s in shows his demeanor so well, then his abilities are shown well in the fight scene, whilst also shocking you. I know I’m kind of stating obvious stuff sorry it’s just cool to me. I’m not really interested in Star Wars extended media so to me when obi wan fights him it’s their first meeting.

If you were to look at it from both the original and the current(shitty) canon, Grievous being a coward wouldn't make any sense. Being a capable warrior before doesn't support cowardice being his weakness. Regardless of whether or not he chose to have the robot body doesn't change the fact that now he's a capable warrior with a robot body, essentially opening up multiple doors that an organic body can't afford. Him knowing that he can get his limbs chopped off without fear of repercussions should have made his flaws foolhardiness from his easily replaceable robot body, and anger from his past as a warrior. These two do show up to some extent, but not embellished enough in the movie and following animation series. The original animation series really captured his persona as a warrior who's anger and foolhardiness often gets in the way of his logical judgment. finally, if grievous was supposed to be a denizen of the dark side, then anger by far should have been his greatest asset. But grievous's anger and jealousy of the Jedi order should have been so great that it would become his downfall. This could have easily demonstrated the flaws of Sith ideology in the early movies, and would have been the perfect ideological irony that Vader would face in the original trilogy.

I agree. Him being a coward doesn't make much sense, especially how he brags about being a god fighter and showing off his sabers. Plus he has a near endless army to boot. I like that they tried to make him human, but him being the butt of every joke ruins all the potential he had. I just wish they showed some scenes of him beating a bunch of jedi to show him as a actual threat. If I remember right, I don't think he beat anyone on camera. He only said he did.

Lucas' decision to make Grievous a coward in both Ep3 and the Clone Wars cgi series, completely destroying the terrifying version from the cartoons is one of the worst decisions in all of Star Wars production history.
@Jasondurgen7 жыл бұрын
UberKuma84 yeah, it wasn’t smart. I understand they didn’t want to make another “Sidious” or “Vader” but I’m sure there were better alternatives that cowardly. How does a coward that flees get to the rank of commander and to be one of the most feared generals/commanders if the dude runs away all the time
@julens.a.29297 жыл бұрын
UberKuma84 Lol, Grievous always have been a coward, even in the 2003 series. Remember back in the 2003 Clone Wars cartoon when Dooku told Grievous that in order for him to win against the best Jedi, he needed to have fear, surprise and intimidation on his side. If even one wasn't, his best course was just run. Obi-Wan (one of the best Jedi) wasn't afraid not intimidated by Grievous, and in fact he was just appeased/calmed. Grievous was right in trying to run from Obi-Wan. Unfortunately, Obi-Wan was able to keep up. While in the 2003 TV series' Grievous always fought against scared, surprised or exhausted Jedi. That was why he could beat them that easy, because he had all that elements on his side. Example: When he fought with Mace Windu, the Jedi wasn't scared or intimidated and he could beat Grievous easily. What did Grievous do? Run, because he didn't have those elements on his side. And we are talking about the 2003 version.
@thezantgeneral6777 жыл бұрын
UberKuma84 Actually, seeing as Grievous' chest was crushed it made perfect sense for Grievous to be weaker. And Dave Filoni made him weaker in the CGI Clone Wars from 2008. Not George Lucas.

@Julen Sanchez Abad In addition in that infamous scene (and my favorite of the character) from the 2003 series where he butchers all the Jedi, then the Clone Gunship crashes through the wall you can see Grievous tense up at it. He's got a real scanning look on his face, as if he's considering running or staying to fight. Ultimately he decides to keep his distance, not fully run but retreat so it couldn't hurt him. That's also him being cowardly when the elements aren't on his side.

I have two things, one, I wish they would've kept the up-right posture, It would make him much taller....and better. Second, 8:51, that part made my heart melt, I know it's just an actor, but still, when he shook the lil' kid's hand I died of pure joy.

Grievous became a cyborg after his make a mistake with his employer so his employer began to talk with the sith so the sith planet a bomb in Grievous's personal ship. The bomb was made to partionally injure him. The sith quickly went, retrieved his remains, and stabilised him. Then made the offer, they told him that the jedi planted the bomb, so their offer was life for Grievous but he must serve the sith. In return the sith would help Grievous's planet because his planet was in great poverty after the war against other who resided on the planet. Grievous had no choice but to accept the offer, he needed to help his planet. It's sad when you think about it, he was lied to, tricked, and hurt by the enemy.

Just about my favorite character in all of Star Wars, his design anyway. My favorite incarnation would have to be the Clone Wars micro-series version. Not only do I love his more eloquent and dignified voice, his ferocity when it came to his fights was much more fitting for a Jedi slaying war lord. The canon version is fine, but I prefer the ruthless cyborg general to not be so ready to flee and be a coward.

When you say behind the scenes- I expected him to be sat in one of those set chairs, cross legged. Holding a coffee in one hand, a cigarette in another whilst scratching his head with the 3rd and expressing his emotions with the 4th, explaining to the camera how much more challenging Ewan McGregor was with the dummy sabers.
