YES Sonny is highly imperfect. But this isnt about Sonny. Spencer is his nephew and he feels protective. You don't not protect your family members because you yourself are imperfect. Hes not lecturing Nicolas to feel better about himself, but because he is angry that Nicolas hurt his nephew. Again, this ismt about what Sonny has done or Sonny being better than anyone, or holier than thou. It's about his nephew who hasn't had ANY parents for 2 years because his mom, sonny's sister is dead and he beleived his father was dead also. Who watched him go through that loss? Sonny and Laura. So yeah, Sonny has "room to talk." Spencer is very important to Sonny. That is his dead sisters child, his nephew. And also... Sonny knows what it's like to have your dad walk out on you. In his eyes that is the worst thing a father could do. Even worse than having bad things happen because of who your dad is. He didnt CHOSE to have his son get shot or any of the other things. Nicolas chose to pretend to be dead and hide from his son and let him be traumatized.

sonny is not one to criticize nickolas after how many times has sonny faked his death and gone in hiding on the island ? off the top of my head I remember sonny popping out of his casket at his own funeral and the very first time he got married to lily was on the run hiding and faked his death and I am not even counting the number of times he hid or faked his death to brenda, any of the actresses playing carly he faked his death or went into hiding or pushed them away. He shot carly in the head while she was in labor with morgan for one and even when spencer got his face burned he never was around for him then or when brit supposedly kidnapped spencer he only cared after nikolas was gone.

Notice how all those times you mentioned was before he had children? Sonny has never faked his death to his children. And the only reason Carly got shot was an accident, he didn’t purposefully shoot her so bringing that up is bullshit. And Sonny has ALWAYS been there for Spencer, there’s numerous scenes of Sonny interacting and looking after Spencer’s wellbeing long before Nikolas disappeared. He didn’t just magically start caring about Spencer only after Nikolas was gone.
