I own nothing, I collect nothing.
With Jonathan Jackson having returned to GH on-contract as Lucky Spencer 8/23/24, I decided to present the most recent GH opening in which he appeared-the late-2011-to-early-2012 final full version of "Skyscraper".
Jackson, of course, originated Lucky in 1993 before departing GH in 1999. Eventually the character was recast with Jacob Young (2000-03) and Greg Vaughan (2003-09) before Jackson opted to reprise the role in October 2009.
At that time, however, the "Tux" opening was nearing its end and hadn't added new actors since July of 2007; not until "Skyscraper" premiered in February 2010 would Jackson's image return to a GH opening sequence (he was notorious for appearing with one or two dogs for much of his time in the "Sax" opening.)
This update debuted in October 2011, around the same time Jackson's pending GH departure was announced. He last aired as a regular in November 2011, and other than a handful of mid-2015 appearances to usher his on-screen dad Anthony Geary (Luke Spencer) into GH retirement-as well as facilitate the return of Lucky's presumed-dead adopted son Jake (then played by James Nigbor)-Jackson/Lucky had been absent from the GH canvas until now.
In this "Skyscraper" update, Sean Blakemore (Shawn Butler)-who was elevated to contract status in April '11- and Kelly Sullivan (Kate Howard/Connie Falconeri), who began airing in September '11, are added. Meanwhile, Ingo Rademacher (Jasper "Jax" Jacks), Tyler Christopher (Nikolas Cassadine) and Brianna Brown (Lisa Niles) are subtracted. Both Rademacher (2019-21) and Christopher (2013-16) would later return to GH on contract and grace their respective openings.
By the time of this update, GH had been alternating two "Skyscraper" versions for some time. One featured Brown/Lisa, Scott Reeves (Steven Webber) and Leslie Charleson (Monica Quartermaine). The other featured Sonya Eddy (Epiphany Johnson) Jason Cook (Matt Hunter) and John Ingle (Edward Quartermaine). With this update, however, Reeves/Steven's image was relocated to Christopher's old spot near the beginning, and of course Brown/Lisa's image was removed.
Further complicating matters: Charleson and Eddy had both been dropped to recurring status over the preceding year (August 2010 and March 2011, respectively), which usually meant removal from the sequence in those days.
What the show ended up doing was keeping two versions of the opening, swapping Charleson and Eddy out-in spite of their recurring statuses-until "Skyscraper" was dramatically modified in March 2012.
Note: The "Night" opening debuted in June 2012 with zero of those six rotating actors included, even though Reeves and presumably Ingle (who was seriously ill and would pass away in September 2012) still had contracts with GH.
I'm not sure if the version aired was based on any pattern or show appearances or what; if YOU happen to be able to fill in a blank, let me know!
