I remember reading that Jane Elliott wanted to do this story because she didn't like how Tracy stuck her nose into the fact that daughter-in-law Jenny had had an abortion years before. That's why she left in 1993. It was more based on the fact that she wanted dirt on a daughter-in-law she didn't like than being judgmental, especially since Jenny had claimed to be a virgin. I like the fact that Tracy has many facets to her personality, good and bad, and she knows she's flawed. That's why she secretly admired Monica, and has changed her stance on her over the years. Now that she's older, she sees Monica as the morally grounded head of the family who made mistakes but has moved past them, and wants to make alterations to be more like her since she knows Monica won't be around much longer, and she'll have to do the head of the family.
