I wanted to use compressor to give my kicks more attack, but I got into the "sausage problem" that you mentioned. So I made a FL Patcher preset, that triggers at every beat, so I can use it when sound designing kicks. I know I could just use a envelope, but it's much faster to load up the preset than to draw in the envelope.

I love to use the Doom Compressor / "Doom Compression". If you have not heard of this already, definitely look it up. Adds pure beautiful violence to any sound.

NIce video boss, when I asked the question I was generalising, because I am actually writing different genres at the moment, and I couldn't understand compression ( Alot of EDM forums etc always banging on about throwing compressors on everything and I just couldnt get my head around it) in these styles of music, I only ever used a compressor to really enhance transients on kicks , the good old 1176 for that. I never really use them unless im trying to tame a wild section. Good video, the analogy on the remote (And yes I remember free TV) was perfect. Now go have your spinach, you've earned it ;) pmsl

Comp on buses especially means that the mastering processing can be easier performed, so it all has a meaning properly applied.

One of the best example to explain Attack and release! Thanks. I’m still trying to understand tough if the attack do some sort of limitation too or what ( the example to realize that the sound in the tv is too loud then grab the remote controller to decrease it)… and/or the time before put the tv volume to its previous level (saturation)…if you have some different words applied on the music would be appreciated. Thanks

Compressing/limiting is used also for kick attack sound design. I have seen great examples, where if one takes away the comp. it sounds not near as good. Same for really powerful FX snares, and toms.

Great video, thank you for that Little edit: using compression on a kick makes sense (to me), but not in the main project. In the creating project of the kick, a compressor on the frequencies above 150 hz really helps making everything in the tail glue together

Furthermore, compression when proper made can also increase the presence in a more sophisticated way. It is certainly not an over-rated application in the mix.
@Lunix_Hardcore3 жыл бұрын
Compressors are a bit overrated tbh. They are a handy tool but i would say you can make a killa track without using a single compressor. I useally only use compressors alot in sounddesign, because it's quicker for me then setting up a volume automation. In mixing I useally only use compressors for transient control on drums and clean punchy kicks. If I want to squish something together like layered leads, i like a limiter and a bit of saturation instead of a compressor cause i feel it sounds nicer that way.
@generalguyble3 жыл бұрын
one million percent agreed!!! I'm also not too big of a compressor user

It’s very good to show us what the compressor do in Hardstyle music! But too much time to tell the general knowledge, less time to show the examples! Even your demonstration only one second! I like to see the analysis details what the compressor doing! Hope you can show more technics in Hardstyle music, because seldom experts to talk about that! Thank you so much!
