Connection I don't think I've read anyone else saying- in that second fight, Obi-Wan finds himself drawing on his attachments and love to defeat Vader and in that moment realises the flaws I the Jedi and Sith, that perhaps the middle ground is where the true power of the Force is found: it's then that he acknowledges that he doesn't need to train Luke from childhood, it's better that the boy experience familial love and learns to draw strength from it (a realisation Yoda never quite came to) and this is also the point when Qui-Gon- a jedi generally considered to be edging into the grey- is able to reach him again.

It was very noticeable how in the final duel in the series Obi-wan is very emotional and aggressive. Not very Jedi-like, but this was a very personal fight. For many reasons.
@talisredstar15432 жыл бұрын
I think Obi-Wan in the 2nd duel starts off with Soresu, but soon when he realizes he is faster than Vader falls into Qui-Gon's variation of Ataru, if you notice, Obi-Wan's attacks become long powerful strokes, and he ever ground base acrobatic. he is building momentum for heavy strikes, and keeping his attacks coming from both sides, so that try and overwhelm Vader. You have to notice that Obi-Wan is very aggressive in this fight, and he makes use of of Soresu only when he gets put on the backfoot, but the rest of the time his as agressive as he was when he fought Maul, just slower. Then we see him use a One of Anakin's Shien moves in one of his attacks. Obviously not as refined as Anakins, but it presses his attack on the back peddling Vader.
@Obi-WanKepnobi2 ай бұрын
It's not unknown for obi-wan to revert to Ataru when something is off. We see him use Atari and jar kai simultaneously in the clone wars against maul and opress, as he is seriously outgunned and decides to unbalance them by attacking, which is very out of character for him. Similar situation here. You have to remember that a. he just had a bunch of rocks dumped on him and he's still on that protective adrenaline over the twins and b. he realizes he's giving Vader room by using form 3. I bet while he was running after Vader, he was going over the first half in his head and coming to realize that suit Anakin is very, very, very slow compared to ep III Anakin. It's to his advantage to use form 4, he's faster here, which he never could have been on Mustafar. I agree with your analysis wholeheartedly. He will use Ataru when it suits him. (PS I think the shien chest-box hits were a bit of an ant-man moment. "This looks important!" [whack])

From the superb RotS noverlization: Blade-to-blade, they were identical. After thousands of hours in lightsaber sparring, they knew each other better than brothers, more intimately than lovers; they were complementary halves of a single warrior. Matthew Stover is truly a master at writing.

A devastating warrior who’d rather not fight. A negotiator without peer who frankly prefers to sit alone in a quiet cave and meditate.” It goes a long way in my mind as to why obi wan really was the perfect Jedi
@joeraymond60542 жыл бұрын
I think the commentary around Obi-Wan fighting for something he loves is one of the biggest reasons why Obi-Wan would be able to take on Sidious; he would be fighting for someone he loved, and save Anakin. Maybe not defeat Sidious but he would very much give Palpatine a very difficult time, by generating the type of ferocity the desire to protect another the Sith cannot imagine.

Another thing that allows Jedi to move so fast in combat using a lightsaber is the fact that their weapon has no bladed edge of any kind. It is simply a rod of plasma that any part of it will cut an object or person so they can swing it wildly in any direction. A sword has a specific edge or edges that require it to be used in a very specific way, unless you plan to use it as a paddle against someone, and thus the fight techniques are slower and more precise.
@r2020E2 жыл бұрын
Also the blade is massless, which makes it hard to wield for non-force users but also allows it to be accelerated incredibly easily as there is only the mass of the hilt that needs to be accelerated.

During their third lightsaber encounter on the Rocky planet, what Kenobi did was fascinating, when he was beneath those rocks trying his hardest to force his way out there, he instead resorted to thinking about Leia, and that's when it hits him, he then force push those rocks away with ease. Fascinating because, it is similar to the type of thinking of how dark side users get their fuel from, they channel their anger by replaying painful memories, then they convert that anger and hatred into the force, Jedi simply don't often do this, the closest Jedi equivalent to this is meditation, they meditate to ease off their minds, which would help them use their force. Kenobi let his attachment to Leia fill his mind, (which is not the jedi way) and convert it into a mix of anger and remorse/empathy, which he again convert it into the force.
@finlaystevens52992 жыл бұрын
mate, you are absolutely right. thats not the jedi way and it is traditionally a dark side manuever, however, the jedi are actually permitted to do this on the battlefield as they focus on their compassion for others. it helps them to strengthen their connection to the force as they envision their connection with other living things. it is often used by alien masters such as yoda or aayla secura, who by birth have a deep connection with not only their kin but with the plant species and life forms around them. thanks for bringing this to our attention though. and as always, we love you alan, keep doing what you are doing.

I definitely like the idea that Obi-Wan’s sacrifice in their final duel ultimately deprived Vader of fuel for his hate… that time period is a major turning point for his character… prior to this he’s just an angry defeated middle-manager totally resigned to his position caught between the Emperor and the Inquisitors. When Obi-Wan later inspired Luke on the Trench Run it renewed Vader’s hope of overthrowing the Emperor. An option that had essentially been lost to him since he choked his pregnant wife and was promptly de-limbed. Does kinda seem like Obi-Wan was either being a total shit-bag or at least using reverse psychology on Luke when he tells him, “if you can’t or won’t kill Vader, the Emperor has already won…” coming from the guy who had literally every opportunity.

I think you need to separate the two battles in the Obi Wan series. Obi clearly got his ass kicked in the first duel. Doesn't matter that he wasn't ready.

It's amazing that it's all tied together now with Clone Wars, Rebels, and Kenobi. I now see Obi-Wan letting Vader kill him so that Vader doesn't become more like Darth Maul, who's sole desire for living was to kill Obi-Wan.

Do we actually see Obi Wan kill other sentient beings than Grievous, Maul, and the clones guarding the temple when Yoda and Obi Wan go back there to see what happened? I don't remember all TCW episodes, but the fact that he didn't kill Vader (well, it wasn't exactly a surprise since it's prior to the originals lol) made me try to remember how often we see him kill sentient beings and from whatI remember, it's only when he has no other choice.

when he bashed his saber like that on Vader's chestpiece. that move was copied from maul imo

Imagine Obi-Wan turning to the darkside because he used his emotions. I know it would be a little far-fetched, but it would explain why he looks so much older than he actually is.

During the spire fight Obi-Wan does a spin attack I think while in between two spires and somewhat off screen. That was a really odd choice to me really.

Kenobi being the best of the Jedi doesn't say a lot when you look at how he and Yoda manipulated Luke.

Even after death, Kenobi takes his body with him. So Vader wouldn't be able to freeze it in Amber.

I'm not sure if this was intended or not, but I felt like the reason Obi-Wan got so powerful during this fight was because he tapped into the Dark Side for a few seconds. If you subscribe to the One Force theory then any form of emotion or passion, positive or negative, can tap into the "Dark Side". His anger at Vader, his grief over Anakin, and his desire to protect what was left of his former padawan (the children) all fueled his ability to connect to the Force, which is why he was able to pull off that ultimate attack at the end. In other words, Obi-Wan was fighting with the full Force--Light and Dark, in a way that hasn't happened since Revan (who incidentally also uses a similar ground throwing attack in his final battle in SWTOR while saying how he has mastered both sides of the Force). I'm sure this isn't what Disney intended, but still.

Obi wan can’t kill anakin because even as Vader he feels like he failed his own master and knew that if anyone can save him is his own son and if you have read the rise and fall of Darth Vader book it’s obi wan that taught him how to become a ghost
