Dude, the whole point of this scene is the demonstration of how off-rails military forces can be when applied indiscriminately on a civil population to me, the scene is perfect: part of the repressive authoritarian actions that will cause an arrest and an unfair trial with heavy consequences... Of course, in a well managed democratic nation, this should not happen... however, this is the rise of the dictatorship... Andor thinks he can escape and live his life, apart from the situation imposed by the empire, and he will quickly realize that there is no way to escape from the tragedy that lies around.

So they definitely would act very heavy handed when it came to policing. Also the fact that the whole empire is on lockdown because of what happened on Aldhani, and how Yularen said that even minor offenses will be treated as major crimes really explains 1. Part of the reason I think this is because the recap in the new episode specifically shows him ducking back behind cover before taramund is shot. Why does he stay silent? Taramund runs out into the open because he thought Skeen would have his back, when he was really only looking out for himself.

It's the "Bureau of Standards" because that's what it does, it standardizes everything across the galaxy. Especially the many different units of measurement. It's not dystopian, it's bureaucracy in action and probably one of the few parts of the Empire *not* up to some shady shit (and DEFINITELY one of the only ones actually performing a vital public service that benefits everyone). Do you have any idea how nightmarish it would be to try and schedule a freight shipment from Coruscant to a planet halfway across the galaxy orbiting, say, a binary star system with a different orbital period and rotation speed while incorporating several additional stops in other systems along the way if there wasn't SOMETHING in place setting agreed upon definitions of what an hour is and how many are in a day? It'd be like trying to take the train during your morning commute only to find out each stop along the way uses a different calendar, no two places think it's the same day of the week (let alone the same year), and has a different number of hours in the day. So many different parts of people's daily lives would grind to a screeching halt or turn into an absolute dumpster fire if nobody could agree on something like that.

Dont forget that stormtroopers themselves are already Elite, shoretroopers were even better. And they werent dumb. They were extremely smart. And often used as Elite law enforcements aswell, due to the fact that there werent that many big threats they were trained to do that aswell.

It was suicide to run out in open. My Army Ranger buddies would tell you something like. "I am up, he sees me, I am down." Anything else is going to result in you being cut down.

For me it is more simple than that. This kind of arrestation from paranoid police officer is pretty common even for advanced countries. In my countrie we call it "Délit de Faciès" which can be translatated as "face offense", when you are considered guilty by an officer juste because you look guilty for him, and you can't do anything about it.

Shoretrooper ain’t missing no brain cells ; he just abusing his power & probably arresting many to reach a quota. Also Skeen did get Tamaryn killed 100%. He was handed a DLT-19 by Tam. When Tam was going to go to Vel, there was no enemy fire & both gave the nod. Tam is expecting heavy suppressive fire from Skeen but as soon as he out, Skeen instead shoots 2 single shots & goes to cover early on purpose, then the enemy fires leaving Tam to get shot down. Skeen was holding back the whole shoot out start to finish with single shots. He’s also why Lt. Gorn died. Two enemies on balcony but he doesn’t rain bolts, just 2-3 shots only taking out 1. Why ? To let Gorn stay in open & unable to get to cover on time while more soldiers come rushin from rails. Skeen only needed 2 people to ensure payout - the pilot & the nav

I've had encounters with American police that are so paralleled by this interaction with the storm trooper. Cops in our society are also trained to see threats everywhere. They can act like an occupying military force.

Yeah I think this was the point of this scene and portrayal of stormtroopers. With this and the whole deal with the two corpos harassing Andor for no reason, and hanging out at a brothel when they’re supposed to be on duty, it tells me that Andor has a clear message that it wants to get across

@@pupulauls Star Wars has always been Leftist Agitative Propoganda and I'm always here for it. It kinda bothers me how the Star Wars Fandom often misses that part of Star Wars lol. @@fnunez I don’t think Vel wants him dead and will go against orders. Maybe a set up to protect him? There was something off about that arrest to me. I could be wrong. I take issue only with the last sentences... Yeah we have cops not soldiers, but so many are vets who were dropped into law enforcement roles, and we have an ever increasing militarization of our police departments. So the Shore Trooper is a mirror of the current reality in the USA (and many other countries).

It was a great scene. The trooper was just throwing his weight around arbitrarily. Because he can. That's the point. He doesn't need a reason.

It seemed obvious to me they were tasked with charging individuals of even suspected crimes to supply the enormous work force needed in the Imperial prison system. The shore trooper was essentially just a glorified "slave recruiter."

This scene appears to be cut... I think the trooper saw Andor looking around a few times.. And Andor admits he was looking to see what was going on. Then he changes his story that he was just going to the story. Which is why the trooper got suspicious of him.

With the benefit of hindsight, I'm wondering if the shoretrooper wasn't being paranoid, and maybe they were just instructed to find the tiniest pretense to arrest people for slave labor. In the very beginning of Andor's prison stay, we hear prisoners remarking that a lot of people are being jailed for no reason, and we saw what the parts they were assembling would eventually be used for.

I feel like this scene flew right over your head there. The whole point was to show a bad cop type situation. The Empire is cracking down on populations, they more concerned with enforcing rules than justice. There were some criminals in the area, he was acting nervous which Andor indeed was. So they swept him up on a little power trip. I doubt that shore trooper gave two hoots if he was guilty or not. I've been fortunate in my interactions with police during my life. Only one started this kind of nonsense with me and another officer was the one who got him off my case and let me leave safely. Young, dating working and school so dead on my feet and driving home. Passed the sobriety test fine, just half out of it. First officer didn't care he had made up his mind. The other stepped in, good guy. Their is more of this sort of thing seen these days, I don't know if it's actually more. Or just that so many now having cameras is shedding light on it. This scene felt like both commentary and comparison to show it was getting worse for citizens. And lets be honest, Andor was nervous because he was a criminal. Anything that makes you pop out of the crowd can draw unwelcome attention, and when security is hunting for whatever reason, they can tend to focus on those folks who pop out to them.
@seanswader74252 жыл бұрын
The shore trooper was spot on. He could easily spot that Andor had done something wrong. He expertly read his body language. I know that he had no real evidence, but as far as fictional fascist soldiers go, this guy deserves a massive promotion. If they only knew the crimes he actually committed this trooper would’ve been known as a hero to the empire

The problem for Andor is that he didn't blend in well enough in civilian life. He's too suspicious walking around like that. Since this is the empire he's just as guilty.
@bdemar2k12 Жыл бұрын
The hardest part of making andor grounded and realistic is trying to show the personality of people in the empire. In old star wars it was just good vs evil. The empire is not in any gray area though... you have to be pretty sick in the head to think the empire is doing a good thing. And the vast majority of humans in real life are nothing like that
