A fun, wholesome fact about this show is that the voice actors for Pinky and Brain, (Rob Paulsen and Maurice LaMarche respectively), have known each other for over 30 years and are still fantastic friends. There’s a really heartwarming chapter in Paulsen’s memoir where he mentions how LaMarche would visit him in the cancer ward while he was undergoing radiation.

It was always hilarious how Brain's original plan would just never work and was impossible scientifically, yet they had one or two difficult secondary missions they had to complete BEFORE they could even attempt the original stupid plan which they rarely even got to. Pinky embraced his idiocy but competently assisted Brain (Brain wouldn't get anywhere without him and Pinky probably knows better and so humors him). Brain was the idiot who convinced himself he was a genius (Dunning Kruger effect) and despite using sciencey words never really figured out his plans always sucked.

You only have to watch one episode (The Pinky POV) to realize that Pinky is the genius. Long story short, by the time Brain asks "Are you pondering what I'm pondering?", Pinky has already pondered the initial brilliant idea and has had a dozen other ideas since then. The only reason he comes across as dumb is because no one else's brain (including the audience) can keep up with him. Thankfully, though, Pinky has no interest in taking over the world.

It's been quite a while since I've been able to watch full episodes of Pinky and the Brain. The two of them are definitely the funniest characters in the Animaniacs universe. I mean now that I think about it, in the intro of every episode of Pinky and the Brain, it says "One is a genius, the other's insane". Which one is the genius? According to the show Brain is supposed to be the genius. Or is he? Maybe Pinky is the smarter of the two and Brain is the insane one who thinks he's smarter.

Brain is the genius and pinky is insane. It's not that complicated. Brain's purpose is to take over the world thats his macro goal while he carries out different plans that keep failing but he refuses to stop trying thats his micro method. Pinky's purpose is to enjoy life as it comes to him by going with the flow that's considered insane in society where youre expected to follow the protocol. Brain's WHY is the same but his HOW changes every single time. He has never once tried the same plan twice. Thus he is a genius and pinky is insane. This is coming from someone who is both a genius and insane. But take what I said under your own consideration and come to your own conclusions.
