Paranoid by Black Sabbath was a last minute song they wrote in 20 minutes to complete the album and went on to be one of the greatest rock songs of all time. It’s super simple, but it slaps. There is nothing wrong with generic tracks if done well.

So what if the kind of metalcore I prefer is actually the mix songs like that. I love that chaos meets harmony, give me the most gorgeous, flying above the clouds chorus, followed by a breakdown from the bowls of hell, then back to the clouds, and Im in heaven with my music. Like new Make Them Suffer, I love her voice, love her cleans, but she can also scream, and goddamn can he get low, and that combo is amazing. Other than that being a bit heavier than this all the way through normally, its the same thing. The normal verse, chorus, verse, chorus, breakdown chorus layout, most bands are generic with that, with most of their songs, with a few exception songs in the mix. Now and then they will trip you out and extend the breakdown, and end on it. Which either way can work, and can fail, depends on the song entirely, what the songs about, what the lyrics mean to you, and how the music itself makes you feel. Generic is generic cuz its good, if it wasnt, it wouldnt be generic, and normal, while it also lays ground work and inspiration that lays the road for the next generation to follow, and build apon.

I find it silly that some people are so up their own rears that they refuse to have fun with music. Nothing wrong with just not liking a song, but not liking a song specifically because it doesn't have 18 layers of deepness to the lyrics, with super experimental stuff in each track, is just enjoying sniffing your own farts. Memphis is doing great with these songs, they're fun and catchy, and being fun/enjoyable is a majority of the reason music exists lol.

Anybody who thinks this is generic can go and cry in a corner. MMF is experimental. They bring fresh sounds and I love them. And the breakdowns are well placed. Breakdowns that are “out of place” is what makes the song so good. A change of pace. A breakdown is meant for heaviness and headbanging. Again, if you think this is bad, then go cry in a corner.

Sometimes predictable is good, means you can vibe to it straight away on the first listen. To non music people they probably don’t think about generic, they probably see that as normal, and won’t be interested in more crazy songs. I’d much rather this than people going out of the way to be different and making songs that are hard to follow and don’t have a basic structure. I loved mmf last album and this single, all so catchy and I play regularly. My only slight complaint is the overproduction, I do feel sometimes a bit more raw sounding drums/guitars would make it make it better. I have seen them live though and they are incredibly tight and sound great!

Chaotic is generic, but a banger regardless. Memphis May Fire really know how to both write catchy radio shit (now, aside from Broken, even though I'd hot take and say that same counts for The Old Me) and heavier stuff. If the next album is anywhere like Remade In Misery, I won't be mad. Seriously my favorite song of this week. As for the question, I think it depends. In terms of generic post-hardcore, it's Memphis May Fire. Generic metalcore is a little trickier since all the bands that used to be generic started being creative. I'd go with Fit For A King, since they continue riding that wave between radio and generic metalcore and it still works out for them.

In all honesty i prefer generic just simply because generic music is usually catchier and great for the song a long vibe. I work from home so I’m always having sing a long sessions. lol. Wage War, MMF, until I Wake, all those can be labelled as generic but bands that never miss for me. Every song is usually a banger. A simple yet effective banger and can usually relate to the lyrics.

I’m more worried about the future. I’m kind of worried the next MMF record will be the last all over again. Nothing wrong with that because I loved remade in misery, but it might not be a good idea to just overstay your welcome and make this sound die before you even began. Even the people who loved last album, will get tired of this sound if it’s the same on the next one. Then a catchy chorus and a dent breakdown that sounds sick won’t save you if you overdo it. This is a big turning point for this band

tbh, i use the word "generic" a lot. i listen to a lot of new releases every week and a lot of it is "generic" or "mid". for me it just means like, "i've heard this done many times before and just don't want to hear it done anymore". it's things with no style or substance or originality. it's fine if you're into it, but for me i need at least some novelty when i listen to music, and a lot of these bands just do not provide
