ICON A5 Seaplane flying - demos off the coast of Maine

Taking off in the ICON A5 from Rockland, Maine (Knox county regional airport KRKD) and flying towards Vinalhaven, Maine to demo the A5 for a couple people.
It’s a little behind the scenes of flying the A5. Engine run-up, what I’m looking for before I take someone up on a demo (water depth, buoys, markers, and debris) and a peak of my demo flights while I’m in Vinalhaven.
You’ll hear me talking with my ground crew as they prepare to set up the ICON Aircraft floating dock and talking with passengers about the aircraft, to include the ICON Angle of Attack Gauge.
Maine is a beautiful area to fly around! I loved it.

This is where I'm from, so this is the exact place I would want to see in a demo... So cool! Just beautiful there, looks like it was a beautiful day in the air and on the water. I'll never have the money for an A5 but hopefully I can see the coast and the islands from the same viewpoint sometime soon, I miss home!

demo pilot would make an ideal flight instructor. Her calm even demeanor is smooth as ice. I myself personally have enjoyed flying with female pilots vs males perhaps it a maternal thing i dont know but Ive found them to be some of the best pilots.

Originally the cockpit was going to look more traditional.. I wanted a more traditional look. Personally I don't like this car like interior. I like straight lines more than curves.

Back in the day a buddy of mine flew us over to Catalina island for the day. I thought the landing at the Airport in the Sky would be the highlight of the trip as the runway looks like a quarter mile drag strip with cliffs at both ends, but I experienced something later in the day that even topped that. We rented a small boat at the dock in Avalon and were cruising around with no particular knowledge that the buoys (I think they were either blue or red) in the water marked the seaplane runway. I remember seeing that plane land on water and I was just amazed. Ever since then I have been a big fan of seaplanes. A few years later they permanently ended seaplane service to Catalina but one day I hope to land on the water!

What I wouldn't do to fly one of these. SO smooth looking. So easy to maneuver it seems. Cockpit is so clean and open. I live on Cape Cod and think it would be a stunning place to explore in one of these. Could look for great whites from the air. Landing and maneuvering on the water looks like a blast! You're a great pilot. I love to see more of us ladies doing more and more things that have been historically left to the men. Edit: you work for Icon?

I don't wanna talk bad about the A5, I think its a great plane with a very interesting approach - but I feel like the idea of the very easy maneuverability might lure inexperienced pilots into overestimating themselves.

@@nils895 proper training and having the right safety mindset is what prevents that. Airplanes shouldn’t be hard to fly.

​@@nils895 Most if not all the crashes in the A5 has been pilot errors. I hear the company isn't doing so well anymore as their current aircraft went up in price massively! Not to mention it only takes a sport license to fly this and not a full blown pilots license. 20 hours compared to 30 hours. and no medical cert.

Ganesha nice vídeo. If you have plenty of space to take off from water, I wouldn't use full flaps, cause you gain speed faster. I Would be delighted to fly the Icon A5 with. Who knows one day...thanks for sharing.

The goal of using full flaps on a water takeoff is so that you can takeoff sooner. You would never purposely takeoff with no flaps.

Obber I don’t think anything in my video made anything seem like, “a bid deal.” I was checking out a dock that was set up for me to land and surveying the area I had never flown before so I could complete multiple demos... maybe you should make more of a deal about your seaplane flying if all you’re doing is one low pass before landing in an area you’ve never flown before.
