​@@PietriGuitars I wish. Unfortunately it takes little wind for a boat to outrun a swimmer. Water moves slower than air (usually), so basically everything that floats becomes a sailboat if the wind is right. You learn quick to leave at least one person on board at all times, so they can come get you when it floats off. We jump into open water all the time (Florida Gulf). One option is to use a "sea anchor" - basically an underwater parachute that slows the drift of the boat. Really common on boats that do open water sailing or cruising. Have fun.

Sportfish equals 50 gallons per hour to run, Icon is 5 gallons per hour. A LOT cheaper to fish with a plane.

Clever marketing Icon. Clearly promotional edits. For the observant ones who noticed 2 different tail number on the video...All info obtained is simple google searches and FAA lookup...N468BA is registered under vessel of freedom LLC out of Pensacola Florida since 2017. N505BA is registered to Max G Pursuits LLC. Airworthiness was just issued on 9/5/19. A quick search does verify Julian Gates as contact for Max G Pursuits out of Arizona. Flight aware has one flight record of 23 minutes at John Wayne airport in Santa Ana on 8/29/19 2 days after FAA certification... now the joy of the Icon A5 is VFR flying however that's a quick turnaround for a commercial just 6 weeks after airworthiness. I wonder if a stipulation of getting the plane delivered was agreeing to be part of promotional content? I may be a bit jealous of the aircraft but dont see landing 15-20 miles offshore of Southern California in swells to be "fun"

As of Nov 4 2019, according to ILMpricelist for seaford the market price for a 15 lb grouper is $9.50/lb. That's a $142.50 for the whole fish. You would need to catch 3,860x 15 pounders to make that Icon 5 airplane worth it's price tag...in 11 years of 365 days of fishing that you actually catching one and not to factor in the cost associated with that airplane. But when you can afford a toy like that money is relativity. Fun factor - Hell yes! LuLz

We usually use a makeshift anchor that is just heavy enough to keep it from floating away. Or tethered to ourselves when we spearfish.

I am curious because I've been eyeing that plane since the concepts... however, from what I have understood about landing in the ocean, you can't do it with the swells... Can you elaborate on landing on the ocean? Was that done at Catalina? Only done on small swell day?

Great concept. Instead of spending 12 hours boating, you fly 30 min. Problem is urine wetsuits. Salt water damage on electronics. Simple garbage bag, dry clothes, gallon of soapy water should fix it.

I've seen A5's with 700+ hours of saltwater operation on them and they're in incredible shape. Being made from carbon fiber really makes fighting corrosion manageable.
