With regards to start of the universe, the big bang theory (not fact) provides a good challenge for our faith. Many people believe in this theory without questioning it (which is the mistake - you should not let yourself be an easy prey). The Satan tests the strength of our faith by making a very simple supposition/hypothesis that there was random atom flying around and it exploded, causing the creation of the universe. The Satan uses science to his advantage as many people assumes that science is knowledge but is not in this case as it is just a theory. Many scientists have subsequently tried to give credibility to this theory selecting particular evidences while ignoring others that do fit their agenda. For a Christian such a situation should have instead strengthen its faith. Anything that does not kill (your faith) should make it stronger.

“The earth was without form and void”... there was no globe or shapes or substance yet, only data waiting to be assembled (formed), by energy. (Void: without energy) “The heavens”on one hand are the spiritual realms including the full angelic host. And (“the earth”), on the other hand, is the physical realm or physics that have mass and information. Light is consciousness and energy. Light began the spin of creation from the right hand of God. It also began the fall of Lucifer in the “heavens” when he saw how beautiful he was and pride changed him to Satan... prayer is your only hope friends. Prayer done in the spirit and in truth. Dr. Tim is one of my favorite teachers. Anytime I can get the anthropology of God’s scripture I can enrich my relationship and understanding of Him. Dr. Tim does it in a way that reaches a post Christian culture. I thank God for him. I would love to attend a meeting between two Tims. Tim Keller and Tim Mackie. Both have profound gifts for reaching non-Christian western people. Their kind of evangelism is definitely anointed for our time. I want to soak up their teaching Kung Fu.

This is so good! Genesis has been a very neglected book throughout our times; especially in the way described by Tim. I know that the beginning and the end of God’s story and ours is the most important of all: what is the setting and what is the outcome… So Revelation is the other most important part of the Bible, also most neglected by preachers for fear of conflict.

I love how you get people involved. Yes, there are so many debates that spark from Genesis, When we respond, of course it's true, it's in the Bible. Just isn't enough. Is the devil real? We know through the tests and trials is life that he is. We know God is real because he has been with us in those trials. Regarding the herbs being made before man in Ch 1, then man being made before herbs in Ch 2, I believe that depends on how we interpret Ch 2:5-6. What I see is that after the mist came up and watered the whole face of the ground, the 'herbs that had not grown yet' (Ch2:5) would have grown, then man was formed, after the establishment of the earth, animals, herbs and man, God then planted the garden east of Eden.....

Fully analysing the time line accordingly: 1. Literal earth was formed the 3rd day. Now the writer's focus of vision is on the earth alone. The same day God created photosensitizing plants. Earth from a blob is dusty due to geological movements, severe storm and hurricanes and vulcanic eruptions. This stage of earth sky,sun,stars and moon are not visible yet the lights penetrated prevailng plants to exist in a scarse oxygen rich carbon dioxide atmosphere. 2. On the 4th day, the earth was more orderly and so is the clearer vision of the surroundings. The the writer saw the first appearance of the sun, stars and moon in the sky and thought that it was its creation. 3. The 5th day allows animals to exist due to now balanced air for them to breath.

He said people misinterpret scripture because they don't understand the beginning of the story. It is the same with the Gospel. People who don't have the Gospel message correct, misinterpret the rest of the New Covenant doctrine! I think it is easy to tell who has it wrong by the way they interpret the rest of the scriptures. Something I never understood is that the Bible says humans are made in his image. What image? His physical image? Or his spiritual image? Are we physically like him on earth, or is our spirit like him, and we have earthly bodies. Because my simple human mind desperately wants to know what he looks like. 😣And I just can't comprehend what he's trying to tell me when I read this text, I think it has to do with the fact that the Bible was not written in a language that I speak; and some of the text has been removed over time.

Note, First, The earth (was) can mean, (became), Gen 19:26 she became a pillar of salt. Same word it implies an action. Second is without form, Tohu, Bohu means void, empty, wast. Third, (And) is translated, But, when you put it altogether it reads differently. Or Tohu Vavohu 1:2 The earth became empty but void, and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the earth became empty and void. Tohu Bohu always suggest as a judgement. In the Hebrew language it says, Now the earth had become chaotic and empty. There was some early catastrophe that had recked the earth which was without void and form. And then God began to re-create the earth in 6 literal days to complete, starting about 6,0000 years ago describing essentially a water globe.

Because a message about the real world that we live in is only a message if it itself is grounded in that same real world we God draws us into fellowship with him. If Genesis 1 didn't really happen, then something else happened and it is this something else that defines the reality of what is.

I think that the word used in the Hebrew bible that is translated city doesn't actually mean city like we think of a city. A city to us is a place where a lot of people live close together. But I think a city to them was actually just a walled village. Like, just a town, big or small, that had walls around it. That's they way that I have heard it explained.

Summary: In the beginning (Genesis) ...God created Order. His Order and Jesus's Order " God's breath...or unseen Word". As someone who has issues with genesis and has this debate. The reason it is a problem is because (as someone who was raised in a heavily religious household) I’m told to take the entirety of the Bible stories literally. And when we’re told “no, except for that” or “ignore that” how is anyone supposed to pick and choose what is to be taken literally and what isn’t? If the very first page of the Bible isn’t fact then how is anyone supposed to take the rest of it as such? This is why it’s an issue.

In Chapter 1 of Genesis, God is viewing / Talking about large swaths of thing's, Heaven or heaven(s) Space, the Stars and Light, Water(s) and so on, information from above like being in an airplane, like when you look out the window, you can see really far, in chapter 2 of Genesis, is God's Point of View on the Earth as he is standing on the Earth, so he gives more up close details of what Genesis chapter 1 went over and then adds more information. Ok I dont agree on "dumbing down" ancient Bible authors. It would be extremely arrogant of people to assume that the Word of God is somehow short of the Highest Wisdom/Science/ knowledge on Earth and also known to man. It would be a crazy idea to actually think God is somehow short on absolute intention to be known to us. And the Spirit of God Inspired Scriptures is a timeless work. Man on a now swear that somehow we in this century are somehow more intellectually equipped than people of old and I just do not agree.
