I'm TDAM from reddit this helped me so much! I subbed right away you literally saved me $1500 from the stealerships. Also did you ever drain the coolant? I never saw you do it other than removing the hose and saying not to open the cap at all or you'd let air into the system.
@johnsullivan937
@johnsullivan937 Жыл бұрын
There's no need to remove the coolant as long as you keep the radiator cap on. The system will be pressurized and hold it all in even though that little hose was taken off. I do the coolant bypass for every summer since it gets so hot where I live, you have to take off a little hose in almost the same spot. It just drips out a little bit of coolant, and stops after a second.

This is so helpful. There aren’t videos out there showing how to do the timing chain in a genesis coupe. How much does a job like this cost for the customer. I don’t have many tools or time to do this entire job myself on my 2.0T. What’s an total estimate cost?

Was this just preventative maintenance or did it jump time or stretch? Im looking at getting one but they say it needs a chain, was wondering if it would be worth getting to just try a chain and tensioner and guides
@ProdigePerformance
@ProdigePerformance 6 ай бұрын
Bk1 timing chains stretch by 80-100k miles so it’s recommended to replace with a bk2 timing chain since it’s stronger and will last longer. Bk2 timing chains typically last another 30-40k miles before they fully stretch You’re supposed to periodically check when you do the valve cover gasket after every 45k miles
@dkennedy9524
@dkennedy9524 6 ай бұрын
@ProdigePerformance I really appreciate it. They said it doesn't run needs chain, it looks in pretty decent shape and they are askin 1500. You think it would be worth getting and hoping it's just stretched?
@ProdigePerformance
@ProdigePerformance 6 ай бұрын
@@dkennedy9524 if it doesn’t run I would try to figure out why A stretcher timing chain doesn’t cause the engine to not run so there’s another issue

@@ProdigePerformanceglad someone asked this I have a bk1 and I had it scheduled for a trimming chain replacement. The week before the appointment I drove my car to work parked it and couldn't start it when I got out of work. Code was for camshaft position and after taking the cover off recently ican see it's stretched. Had it towed to a shop and the sleazeball said the valves were bent without doing any diag and said it will cost a new engine at 6k plus labor or he would buy the car from me for $100. Btw he builds racecars and sells used cars on his lot... So I had it towed home where going to do a chain replacement today.

At 11:35 you point out the buildup on the side of the engine and recommend cleaning it off. What’s the best way to do that? Just wipe it with a rag? Also, I’ve heard that you should change the cvvts when you change the timing chain is that good advise?
@ProdigePerformance
@ProdigePerformance 2 жыл бұрын
Lint free rag and use wd40 and wipe away And yes it would be best to replace both cvvt actuators / phasers in the process

When would a timing chain job be recommended? By how many miles orr? And the best one to replace it with is oem or is there a better after market one??
@ProdigePerformance
@ProdigePerformance 2 жыл бұрын
No aftermarket. The best timing chain you can get is the bk2 timing chain. Way more durable And I usually say check it. Around the 100k 120k mile mark is when I recommended 2.0 owners to replace it

And what if you have a automatic/manual what does that mean about holding the crank into place.? What is the procedure for that?
@ProdigePerformance
@ProdigePerformance 2 жыл бұрын
6 speed guys can simply Put the trans in 6 gear and remove the crank pulley bolt but auto guys would have to use vice grips to prevent the engine from spinning when removing the crank bolt.
