@@davidgroeneveld1382 I think whenever people say "old music was better" or "there is no good music anymore" , they don't mean that to all extremes. They mean that there was popular music they enjoyed back then, stuff that was playing on radio, tv, "current gen bands" who sold out big stadiums. I love to listen to artists like Genesis, Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel, Metallica, AC/DC, Fleetwood Mac, David Bowie, Queen, ZZ Top, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Van Halen, Gary Moore, Depeche Mode, Rush and much more stuff from the past. Those artists were big, worldwide phenomenons in their prime. Newer Artists I like are for example Taskforce Toxicator, Chemical Way, Hans Lazer Alien Slam, Beerhammer, Wandar, Path Of Destiny, Miami Nights 1984, Victim, Airbourne, Parkway Drive, Eisbrecher and stuff like that. Who da fuq are they in terms of popularity compared to those older bands? They are basically nobodies. Artists like Doja Cat, Harry Styles, Nicki Minaj, Cardi B, Capital Bra, BTS, Taylor Swift,etc. are what is considered popular today. I think all of them sound like crap and are really forgettable. I am 24 and there is no "current gen musician", that I like, who is a worldwide superstar. I rarely heard people who lived through 50s-90s say that they didn't enjoy at least some of the popular artists back then but I've often heard people from my generation say "Where is our Elvis Presley, Beatles, AC/DC, Michael Jackson, Queen, Fleetwood Mac, Kate Bush, Metallica, Nirvana, etc.? Why can't we have artists like that?". What I mean is, that it isn't that music got bad. It is just that music, which isn't made after a formula which guarantees big money and degrades the artitistical value of a song, is basically fucked today. Guys like Max Martin perfected "pop formula" and that will get milked because it works for the big music labels.
@pecm Жыл бұрын
@@conordoyle9481 , @David Groeneveld No, he's right. I know every generation says it, but this time is different, otherwise consider this: Will the 2000's, 2010's and possibly the 2020's be distinguishable decades in music? Will they have each one a unique and influential sound and huge impact in the culture like the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s? Will they be remembered in 50 years? They will not, will they? Then I rest my case. Yes, "music changed", and not for the better; but the business changed even more.

In the juke box of our small (+ - 5000 inhabitants) lake shore's town's young people's pub, of the about 80 songs represented in the box, Genesis' Domino was the only progressive rock music piece available to be chosen . As at the end of each 3 months the song least asked (= paid) for always was thrown out of the juke box (and, instead, a new song came in in exchange), i often went there and played the Domino three, sometimes four times in a row. The guests were finally often looking in surprise, but never any one complained. For about six years i could keep the Domino in the box that way, but then i had to leave the town for far away, for professional reasons. About two years later i visited my home town again, was eager to go into the pub - but the Domino track "had gone" : ( Some days later, as i was sitting quite sadly in front of my Martini in the pub, two girls came to my desk and asked: "You are the Domino man, aren't You ? People have been missing You here, as did WE !". From this i learnt: You CAN get leetle famous in MOST ARDENTLY worshipping OTHER people's music, too - although by very far not as famous as when You have CREATED this music, of course - but for me, at this day at least, and sometimes still, it was and is a source of big joy anyway to seemingly have impressed some people, too ... .

The grey of evening fills the room, No need to look outside, To see or feel the rain. I reach across to touch her, But I know that she's not there. Rain keeps running down the window pane. Time is running out for me. Can't you see what you are doing to me? Can't you see what you have done? As I try to pass another long and sleepless night, A hundred crazy voices call my name, As I try to pass them by, I almost can believe that she is here, In the glow of the night. Do you know what you have done? Do you know what you've begun? Do you see we shall never be together again? All of my life. Lonely people, empty rooms, Pointless violence, silent tombs. Could it be that we shall be together again? Sheets of double glazing help to keep outside the night, Only foreign city sirens can cut through, Nylon sheets and blankets help to minimize the cold. But they can't keep out the chilling sounds. Will the nightmare soon give way to dreaming That she is here with me? In the glow of the night. Do you know what you have done? Do you know what you've begun? Do you see we shall never be together again? Lonely people, empty rooms, Pointless violence, silent tombs. Could it be that we shall be together again? In silence and darkness We held each other near that night We prayed it would last forever. Blood on the windows Millions of ordinary people are there They gaze at the scenery They act as if it is perfectly clear Take a look at the mountains Take a look at the beautiful river of blood. The liquid surrounds me I fight to rise from this river of hell I stare round about me Children are swimming and playing with boats Their features are changing Their bodies dissolve and I am alone. Now see what you've gone and done. Now you never did see such a terrible thing As was seen last night on T.V. Maybe if we're lucky, they will show it again Such a terrible thing to see There's nothing you can do when you're the next in line You've got to go domino. Now I'm one with the living and I'm feeling just fine I know what I must do Play the game of happiness and never let on That it only lives on in a song There's nothing you can do when you're the next in line You've got to go domino. Do you know what you have done? Do you know what you've begun? In silence and darkness Hold each other near tonight For will it last forever? There's nothing you can do when you're the next in line You've got to go domino.
