Peter Gabriel played really well here. Wasn't expecting this.

I had driven Phil Collins to this gig and was priviliged to stand on stage in the wings to watch. It was an evening show and it had rained incessantly all day and continued to rain throughout the evening. I remember looking out at the thousands with their candle and lighter flames flickering who had come from all over the world to see this special one-off gig, with those standing closest the stage probably upto their ankles in water when Peter Gabriel came on stage "thank god it's not raining"!

I had the complete bootleg. Fantastic with Genesis playing as a backing band on "Solsbury Hill"

5:38 onwards nice thing with the double bass drum pedal... And everything on the drums from then on is VERY nice... Peter Gabriel can play! Fuck yeah.

This was the only post-Gabriel era song played that day. It rained for the majority of the day but was well worth it. If you can find one anywhere, there's a triple album bootleg on vinyl called "Gabacabriel". It's not off the soundboard but is OK.

Took my 6' girlfriend Jackie there. Watched the show in the pouring rain, mud etc. Went back to my place but we were so cold I'm sure our not bath had NO cold water in it. Happy memories!

I still have the Abacab album signed by all the band including Peter and Steve. Unfortunately a stupid driver thought he'd play a prank and signed it too!

@felsner1 Yes, for fun Peter played on Phil's kit. Phil said the odd meter (that dosen't sound like an odd meter) threw him off a bit.
@robertlamb72257 жыл бұрын
DarkeningSkies1 Turn It On is in 13/8. Phil created his drum part so smooth that you may not notice until you try to dance to it

And Phil at the end of the song played on Chester kit?

Tony was on time. Peter was off time. But, being a non-drummer, he did it pretty decently!
@winterlongone4 жыл бұрын
It's 13/8. *Peter* remarked that at some point it was a "true" Genesis song because of the unusual meter. Since Peter's not a drummer, he lost the time signature. Phil's one of the top 10 rock drummers of his time; 13/8 was easy for him.

Eileen Potocnak Arnold yea I know, I’m a drummer
@winterlongone4 жыл бұрын
@@hpatss4966 Then why would you possibly think *Tony* was off? Tony helped create the song. And, BTW, I'm a pianist.
@hpatss49664 жыл бұрын
Eileen Potocnak Arnold Because any musician can get off time and it may have been either of them because it’s difficult to tell who.

But Pete's drumming together with Chester, right? Sounds like there are two kits going on there...

I was there! When they came on stage the crowd surged 20 metres and me and mate were left with a muddy gap and a few thousand fanatics pushing behind us - if you went down you were dead! Pete looks so young. Oh. . I guess we all did :)

A day to remember despite the continual rain and the mud. The NME stand ran out of plastic bags as eveyone grabbed what they could to sit on or wear on their heads. But one question remains.....why the hell was Talk Talk there? lol

@seanlasheep: GREAT SONG,but such a tease... i mean, where is the rest of this show? I had a copy of this show on disc, released in '95, I think... Horrible sound on it, but pretty sweet bootleg album, nonetheless!! The thing I remember most about that album was the guy, (heard at bout 6:52 secondson this recording,) going around shouting "The Knife" (which they subsequently played as an encore with Hackett) the entire show!! Anyhow, POST MORE OF THIS CONCERT, PLEASE!! Thanx...

yeh...i was there..a lovely moment...but there was a lack of rehersal and a sense of peter gabriel being there as a guest and not a past member..a shame...nice to see steve hackett at the end...after all it was after he left it all went very `Phil Collins band`...sad
