Podcast is Called : ASN Humans Are Space Orcs , HFY and other stories
--------------
This Story is Classified as HFY or Humanity Feck, Yea , but what does the Mean?
-------------
HFY is a story/series that takes a “human element” in either humanity or an “other” (race/species or object) that exists in a “setting” (future or other world/universe) with varying levels of culture, technology, society and history that help show in some shape or form the potential good or bad for humanity’s race/culture. In These stories Humans are often referred to as Human, Humanity, Deathworlder, Hellwolder in reference to the human planet of origin , Earth. This planet is seen by most of the universe as a place where only death and chaos can survive.
-------------
Taken from the FAQ of the r/HFY subreddit.
Humans Are Space Orcs (HASO) or Humans Are (Fantasy Race) Are used as a guide when writing.
In these Stories we normally View humans like the other races view orcs in a Fantasy Novel. We (Humans) share the same characteristics and personalities as orcs. Humans are normally treated as the outsiders and barbarians. Humans tend to be underestimated as well in these stories. Unlike Humanity Feck Yea , these don't always put a positive spin on humans\humanity sometimes looking at the darker side of human and humanity from the perspective of aliens.

Yep, he may as well have been describing the transformation scene straight from the script. But, the last part is true. We've been doing genetic manipulation for centuries, if not millenia on animals, plants, etc., just at a much slower rate. I mean, does a Pug look anything like a wolf? Or, a siamese cat look like a lion? Only superficially. Have you ever eaten anything that was banana flavored and thought it tasted nothing like bananas you buy in a store? That is because that is what real bananas tasted like, before they were wiped out over a century ago by a virus. Bananas, tomatoes, corn (maize), cows, dogs, cats, and yes, even people, have been genetically modified through selective breeding for millennia.

lol good luck to his lawyers since Captain America used the coffin scene prevalent in science fiction using body modifying serums and chemistry in various works since at least 1876. It is almost like the whole genetically modifying super soldier serum trope was stolen by Captain America lol. Not literally of course because it is just a trope but he did become the most well known.

Yeah, saying "these humans did it (genetic manipulation) in 10 [years]" is a bit like saying we built the Hoover Dam in 5 years. Oh sure, the actual dam was built in 5 years, but it was built that dam using materials and techniques developed over centuries and millennia, with equipment developed over centuries, and engineering developed over decades. Everything you see around you is the mere tip of a technological and economic iceberg reaching down through the ages. "I stand on the shoulders of giants", and all that jazz.

'with all the cleaning at work, i think im starting to be cured a bit, i get home now and, even if the place is a bit of a mess i just make some food and watch tv most of the time... " she was a hoot... and i do think it was like therapy for most if not all of them, they could get out that impulse in a positive way, that harmed nobody, just helped everybody involved.... its amusing but also.... This is one Sci-Fi story that I think is more likely to happen earlier than later. We have already mapped our Genome, what remains is to find the ability to make changes to a body with already "bad code" probably with the help of nanomachines. Removing cancer, strengthening musculature, boosting our healing ability, boosting our adrenal output, making us more adaptable to all conditions, eg high / low G, pressure, impact force, temperature ... you get the idea. Essentially as many will probably already connect, making all humans into "Captain America" and ultimately leading to a Warhammer 40k Astartes like body and mind. The Blackhole forged armor, bolters and freaking huge chainswords will just come naturally. 😁

The mRNA vaccine technology was invented to do just that, repair genetic defects. It was originally supposed to treat childhood illnesses like cystic fibrosis, and muscular dystrophy, but was put on the back burner as it would need massive, long term trials, and there just weren't that many kids with diseases that could do the trials with. First, small scale tests were promising. That is, until a certain virus came around.

So, one thing I could see humans actually doing in the future is rather than creating sufficient artificial gravity we could just end up adapting our bodies to zero gravity environments. Modifications to the bones, connective tissue, muscles, circulatory system, and respiratory system making them not only more robust but altered to be immune to the effects of zero gravity. Additionally, we might add more body parts for maneuvering like tentacles to grab far off objects or surfaces to move ourselves, or move in a manner similar to squids with potential webbing between the tentacles. We could alternatively add air jets to the human body to allow it to move not unlike space shits do.

@alganhar1
@alganhar1 Жыл бұрын
Good luck adding all that. To adapt the human body, or any other Earth organism to zero gravity is not as easy as people like yourself seem to think. Neither is 'adding tentacles'. Lets look at 'adding tentacles' first shall we? So you add tentacles to a human clone, now how does that clone CONTROL those tentacles? Have you added the relevant control pathways in not only the brain but the Autonomous Nervous system to control them? Have you heard of Proprioception? Otherwise known as Kinesthesia? What is this? You know that sense of knowing WHERE your hand is, or WHERE your foot is even without being able to see it? That is Proprioception, and its tied in to the Autonomous nervous system. Adding tentacles does sweet fanny adams if we cannot control them, and to control them requires significant changes to the Autonomous nervous system.... you know, the part of the nervous system that controls silly little things like... breathing, heartbeat, you know, that sort of thing. In other words it is NOT a part of the human physiology you want to make mistakes in because if you do it ends up in a state of Dead. Rapidly. As for zero G, you have ANY idea of how much deep genetic work would be required for that? We have evolved in a Gravity well, our entire body is evolved around that. Not just our musculature. You would have to change humans at very BASE levels to make them fully adapted to zero G. Very fundamental levels. As in fundamental enough that if you modified a human for Zero G they would NEVER be able to step foot on a planetary body like Earth. Ever. It would kill them. Adjusting humans for Zero G would not make them MORE robust, it would make them LESS robust. As for air jets, please explain to me, good sir, exactly WHERE this air is coming from in vacuum? If you need to supply air, you still need a suit, and if you still need a suit you may as well forget biological air jets (which would be exposed to the massive radiation counts in space), and just go with suit mounted systems.... And dont forget those massive radiation levels in space, thats something many authors do like to forget. Radiation level on Earth is far lower than in space because of the magnetosphere (which is why Mars cannot be terraformed as it does not HAVE one). You may want to consider that. Sorry, but this is a bullshit story written by someone with little to no understanding of human physiology, of Genetics, or, for that matter, what an actual Laboratory looks like.

@@alganhar1 I never said it would be easy. I recognize we are potentially hundreds of years off from the ability to do that. Honestly artificial gravity is probably easier are space ships will just be giant spinning cylinders.

Mixed feelings here. On the one hand, the idea of being able to create a real Captain America is very cool. On the other hand, I live with Autism Spectrum Disorder. I've met many others on the Autism spectrum and a few with downs syndrome. While many of us do struggle, most of us don't want to be "fixed" or "cured." As many of us see it, we have much to contribute to the world as we are. We simply do so differently and have different needs as a result of our conditions. What I desire, what many of my peers desire, is to live in a society that can value us for who we are as we are. Yes, we need support with some things the average person doesn't, but we also can do things the average person can't. Forgive my rambling. I simply couldn't stay silent on this one. I am not a mistake to be fixed or a disease to be cured.
