Wow. I thoroughly enjoyed Jonny's presentation throughout this. Since his 5th Gear days, this is remarkably a coming of age so to say of his show-hosting capabilities. He is concise, verbose, riveting, and show automotive depth all in one package; no homo, unpaid. Very unlike the bombastic (literally) JC, or the grumpy TN, which is a welcoming breath of fresh air. Keep it up!

Or you can convert an mx5 into a performance BEV, yourself. it's a loved model in the Tuner community. There are great aftermarket suspension & body parts available. Only, in place of an engine & turbo, use a strong electric motor, and build custom lithium battery packs, with super capacitors in parallel, to make launches & brake-regen easier on the batteries. Your comment about the emergence of sub-brands... my guess is so that the car manufacturers can attempt the risky ventures under such sub-brands isolating them from the more established brands. If the risky ventures don’t work, the associated sub-brand is already packaged up ready for sale with minimal (financial, Human Resources, etc) impact to the rest of the group.

Just think how many quad small cars are on the streets. Old people and people that don't have a drivers license have those cars. I am not convinced by the removal batteries, Renault and Tesla tried but quickly decided otherwise. With a limited range where would you swap your batteries after 30, 40 miles or km? at a Seat dealer, supermarkets... hope you have one near you on your journey that store the specific battery. But I would love to see the next Twizy look like the Minimo if Renault ever decides to replace the Twizy.

I have to admit i put off watching this video because i thought that I saw everything there was to see at this motor show it's amazing the amount that isn't covered by other channels simply because they are electric side note the Citroen where you can pay your phone up to the heads up display is absolutely genius!!!!!

Concept. Concept. Concept. Here's a novel idea for a concept car...now bear with me...An electric car...that has a good range...has 4+ seats and a boot...and is affordable to the general public. Madness i know but it just might work! (Or we could just keep making 500 grand concept cars).

Thanks for sharing the highlights from the show! It’s getting harder and harder to wrap your head around so many different styles and brands of EV vehicles! Although, we may never see some them ever come to market, it does make choosing one vehicle becoming increasingly more difficult. I was fascinated by the Da Vinci vehicle, which is another one that may or may not make to market, just as well, I probably never be able to afford it!

Another excellent review. Those skinny tyres on the Brabus Smart car are useless for our South African roads (potholes), you need full profile tyres to navigate them.

I remember all the wacky concept cars from the 80s. Now many people are driving cars that look like those concepts... And now more than ever before car shows are being used to get a bit of public feedback on designs that *are* coming to market. Which is awesome. The funny part is how esp w EVs, how many concept cars these days have specs that under-perform compared to cars available to purchase... Which goes to show how fantastically quickly things are moving along.

Art, technology and attention. Sure most of the designs don't get used in production but they are still nice to look at. Most of the tech will filter down into production models even if the design itself is completely different. It also gathers lots of attention, which in turn caused people to buy their production cars and invest in the company.

Yeah why bother with technological and design progress? Also, we've invented everything we need so we should stop trying to make new things now.

I love concept cars, much more than the tepid, watered down tripe they eventually become when they appear in dealer's showrooms. I like the idea of an electric car, and IF battery technology improves and IF the price drops low enough so that regular folks can buy them ( the crappy chevy bolt STARTS at almost 45 thousand dollars here ) then I'd certainly want one. I only hope that the utility companies / governments don't end up bending us over and screwing us royally over the price of electricity as they're doing to us now with the price of gasoline. ( $1.38 per liter here )
