I know it says it’s a peacock original. However I remember a British film from 1990’s called Bernard and the Genie and from what I remember it’s very similar to this film ( sorry Movie , I’m British 😃) , it’s very similar almost identical from what I remember. Even down to the famous artwork wish . I will definitely watch it , I think Melissa McCarthy is brilliant in everything she does .

Okay “New” is pushing it - Alan Cumming & Lenny Henry (& Rowan Atkinson doing a cameo of the role that looks to be played by Alan here) - in Bernard and the Genie for BBC in late 80s. I mean fair play to Richard Curtis for digging it out, blowing the dust off and selling it to the US as “New” but ‘Bugger Ye Off’ !

They became friends and helped each other to find their place, the human to see that his life is not over and the genie to find a life of his own in the modern world. At the end the genie introduces his human to his new friends as a nephew.
