Today I'm joined by Alexandra Campbell of the Middle Sized Garden who gives us tips on how to design a beautiful garden filled with edible and medicinal plants. She includes specific plants and plant combinations, trees and shrubs, useful plants that look great, the cottage garden style, and the three principles for designing a spectacular garden, no matter the size or your budget.
Today you can also find a video on Alexandra's channel, where she asks me about my new book, A Woman's Garden, and using and growing edible flowers. You can watch it over here: • All about edible flowe...

Oh boy, what a fantastic discovery this was for me! I am now follwing Alexandra Campbell and bought her guide on privacy, the book i was looking for as a new house will be built next door. Your questions are so interesting, Tanya, and allowed her to answer in a riveting way. What a wonderful moment this video was! To celebrate, I treated myself to your book too. I am not a maker of beautiful things, but I feel I could under your gentle guidance!

Lovely video. Important to know that the edible lupins are different species from the ornamental (shown in the video) lupins that are toxic. Also choosing non-invasive lupins for garden is a good idea.

That was really interesting. I'm staring at my barren grass lawn feeling exceptionally inadequate! I love the idea of replacing fences with hedges, unfortunately I've got a very thin fence, with little room for planting something that would grow to a similar height (say 80cm) whilst taking up a narrow footprint. I'll keep searching.

Let nature take it back Tan, let the bugs and the bees take their place. Keep feeding it but let it rest for 5 years and grow its own humus. Then after the five years are up make it a dedicate space. The plants are not important, the biodiversity of the area is. Learn your birds, insects, sun positioning, wind strength and treat accordingly. You know what i mean. x.
