I think it's incredible because Lorde is not only giving social commentary but also comforting people who don't care about the satiric undertones of the song. It's a win for her.

@@ehabebrahem2793 I think it’s the way they do it. Going to other countries and getting to know their culture is great if you’re respectful (and not going during a pandemic), but when you use your privilege and exploit them it’s extremely problematic because you’re disregarding the consequences of what you’re doing (using them like a toy instead of respecting the country, people, and culture).
@veinsphinx7457

@@ehabebrahem2793 for example, foreigners can buy properties and own businesses profiting off from the culture in the area. So, the indigenous people can't have lands in strategic places since they're less privileged (white ppl's currencies always have more value) and the land owner (though indigenous) doesn't have much choice bc foreigners have more money. Vacation and all that are good, but that vile practice is commonly found in the tropical Eastern that relies heavily on tourism.

The critics did this album dirty…maybe they should go do a course in English and Literature because her Lyricism goes straight over their heads. Also, I don’t appreciate how they spoke of Jack Antonoff’s music production. Lorde clearly stated making a record for her and not one for Mr Antonoff. Regardless of that fact, I strongly believed he did well in conveying each song’s feeling well. I was transported to a new place with every song I listened to on the album. I mean, the govt is at fault for failing to regulate these things, but tourists do take advantage of the low rates and the poverty here.

@@popqueen24x7 It’s not problematic at all. Lorde’s wrong about that. It’s just everyone from everywhere, regardless of their culture, are trying to figure things out same as you. So you probably won’t get enlightened from any one particular culture. In my experience , wisdom comes from individuals and from developing as you age, if you’re open to growing your character. It doesn’t come from just going to a specific place. But it’s not problematic if you do actually do that, not in the way I think Lorde means it, like it’s offensive or anything. It’s not.

So many people have been hooked into the whole American "wellness" cult that when they saw a 24 year old woman singing about it, they took it at face value. I spotted the Kiwi satire immediately (I'm Australian and we're pretty good at spotting it) but it's amazing how it just flew over everyone's heads. Subtle southern hemisphere humour strikes again!

I feel like this album is Lorde's "Blonde" by Frank Ocean. She disappeared for a long time and dropped this pretty much out of nowhere! It's stripped back, melancholic, with high highs and low lows (emotionally). Yes very different from her previous works but I love that she takes a different direction every time. She's one of the best of our generation. So clever and feminine.

As someone who learned tarot for years and learned how to read it have saved me (and others) from tragic situations and decosioms in life, i would say that there is a real spiritual element to these things, but used in a shallow way, you wont benefit from them if you think they are the source of wisdom. These are tools, and if u dont understand them, you cant use the wisdom they could bring properly.
