Congrats on the GenMax. Got mine almost a year ago. Change over to floating neutral will take about 30 mins. When I did my break-in, I connected two air fryers and just let them cycle to change the load between 0%, 25% (with one on) and 50% (when both cycled on) and did it all on propane. But the best thing I did was install the MicroAir Easy Start on my AC unit. On my post break-in test run, was able to run the AC, most everything in the house, two fridges, microwave, and coffee pot without exceeding load limit on propane. My plan will include running on regular pump gas, followed by a 'clean out' on ethanol free gas that I make myself, followed by a short time on propane. And you are right, this this is QUIET! Enjoy.

Thanks you for your review of the GM9000iED. It confirms why I bought one last year. Royal Purple recommends using the break-in oil for autos during the 1st 500-1000 miles (8-16 hrs @ 60 mph) and then switch to synthetic oil; so I am switching after 8 hours. Break it in using gasoline. For those of us confined to urban areas on the Gulf Coast; our choice it natural gas not propane. This is an extremely easy generator to convert to natural gas; no expensive conversion kit required. My generator started on natural gas just as easy as your propane test. I was able to have the house circuits powered; then started a 4-ton AC (ran this way for 30 minutes); and finally started the 2nd 4-ton AC while the 1st was still running. I have 2 Hyper Engineering soft starts installed on the compressors (soft starts are required in order to start a compressor). After 5-10 minutes of both AC's running; the generator overloaded and tripped out. The load meter was showing around 6500 watts. I never plan to actually try to use both AC's except for this test. I am happy. I posted a detailed procedure for the conversion at Power Equipment Forum under the Generator forum. A special demand regulator and large hoses are all that is needed for the conversion.

I decided to go with a Westinghouse 15000/12000 generator based on reviews. I needed more power than 9000 watts to run my central AC, this model has a true oil filter & oil cooler. It uses a V-twin OHV engine and produces less than 5% harmonic distortion for high end electronic equipment. I bought the gasoline model since I plan on only using this fuel but they do make a 12000Dfc model which runs on both gasoline & propane.

I look at these then I see that Sam's Club sells a model called a GM7500iAED that's dual fuel, parallel capable, etc., for $899. One could effectively buy two of them with their parallel/series kit and have 13,000/11,000 watts on propane and more if gas. True that one would have maintenance on two units but I guess if only one is being used at any given time, you have another as a spare. High wattage inverter generators seem to get expensive fast and almost reasonable enough to buy 2 small ones to equal, or more, the larger one. Great video, btw.

Thank you for the video - excellent summary. Do you have to have two of these hooked up in parallel to get the 50a output? I've seen some generators that have 50a plugs that only output 30a unless you are running two in parallel - or maybe I'm misunderstanding something about that.

Great Video! I had one question. When hooking up to your house propane, are you using the output of your house regulator (9-13 w.c.) and plumbing it directly to the generator or is there additional regulation needed? A quick calculation for w.c to psi is ~.5psi and the 20lb tank regulator reduces the pressure to 1psi. Just bought the 10500 version and I'm waiting for its delivery. Thanks-Gary

Pointless: "A line conditioner ensures that any voltage fluctuations or line noises are not going to have any negative impact on the functioning of your appliances. I liked your assessment on the differences of the generators. Live south of Boston, When the power goes out, it has lasted up to a week with temps below 30 degrees (winter). just grinned and bared it. Too old for that now. I purchased a duramax xp9000ih, duel fuel a year ago, installed a 30 amp inlet box on the house with a lockout on the breaker box. Had to change the bonded neutral to floating which wasn't that hard and there is NOT a 50amp plug on the unit. Went on Amazon and found a magnetic dip stick that is compatible to purchase but not sure of which drainzit that would fit my drain plug. How do i find that out? is it a thread count or pipe npt? not sure what will fit. Any help would be appreciative. PS.... my power has gone out every year for the past 20 years. Since I invested lots of money in the generator last year the power has not gone out since. Maybe I should pull the trigger on a new snow blower and maybe it wont snow.

I compared the same ones and came to the same conclusion for the same reasons. Also added the magnetic dipstick, and a magnetic drain plug. Ran mine for 1 hour at idle, changed the oil, then did it again, and again. First hour was black, 2nd better, 3rd considerably better. Love the drain hose in the carb bowl, too, which makes it super easy to store. Drilled a hole on the battery side and put in a grommet to pass thru a battery tender cable, too. Have had to use it a few times and it's been fine. Runs my whole house including 3 ton AC (with soft start) no problem at all. My hour meter resets itself to 0 every time, but otherwise it's been fine so far. Considering the only "name brand" alternative is the Honda at over 3x the price, I can replace this 3 times and it'll still be cheaper.

Keep an eye on that magnetic dip stick. The magnet fell out of mine and ended up in the engine sump. I was able to fish it out with a stick magnet. It’s a bad design because the aluminum expands and the magnet falls out. The stick should be made out of steel so the magnet sticks to it even if it gets loose.

I believe Genmax is the actual manufacturer of all of these similar large inverter generators, who buy ans rebrand them. Obviously harbor freight sells a lot of their units as the Predator. Depending on which 50amp cord and plug you get, if you choose the 90 degree 50amp plug, you will need a plug extender. The front panel gets in the way of pushing a 90 degree plug all the way in. You may also want to get the battery charger for the 12v battery.
