You had an awesome reading week! I'm so very happy that you enjoyed Pride and Prejudice even more the second time around - and are now reading Emma! LOTR feels so extremely different than the movies. My favorite genrethon book was My Family and Other Animals - a hilarious and beautifully written modern classic.

BOOM LOOK AT YOU GO ALSO NIGHT CIRCUS YAYAYA I'm so proud of you for finishing so many books, I know you are a super busy student and I love you for participating!

Omg 5 books in a week is SO GOOD. I basically reserve all of my reading productivity throughout the year for booktubeathon (which you should totally participate in btw), but all the rest of the weeks, like this week, I'm usually only able to read one book ;( but i loved how your had such a diverse pile of books! x

Brilliant video! So glad you enjoyed the Genrethon, it has been so wonderful! Hopefully my wrap up will be up later today :) And I definitely agree that Gatsby is great!!

Awesome that you finally finished The Fellowship of the Ring! I didn't have as successful of a Genrethon, because the 3 books I had picked were all putting me into a reading slump. Catching a cold didn't help either. But I still completed 2 books and got a lot of the way into Warbreaker, which saved me from the reading slump because it's so good!

I am so glad that you are reading Emma. It is my favorite, and I think that it gets ignored. Your list is great and varied. Good work. I am glad that you finished The Fellowship of the Ring; one of the books on my list was similar to that. I started it in May 2015, and just NEEDED to finish it. I liked it, but the style wan't plot focused so it was easy to forget about. I also didn't finish my goal exactly, but I did achieve the goal set out by genrethon as a whole. I completed three audio books (a children's sci-fi and 2 Dystopians), an interview biography of Truman Capote, a contemporary romance, and a children's picture book. I did start the fantasy novel from my tbr and am only 15 pages left of the essay collection I was working on.

Your copy of The Great Gatsby is gorgeous!!! What a great genrethon. Modernism (T.S. Elliot is a fav of mine!), Edwardian, and classic fantasy. Lots go ground covered!

You covered such an array of genres! That's awesome! I have to get around to reading The Fellowship of the Ring at some point...I want to I just haven't yet. I participated in Genrethon as well and I'm giving myself an extra day cause I couldn't start until a day later so I'm hoping to finish three books, but I have at least two down! Well done for your first readathon!

Now this is how you do a readathon! Haha way to take on intimidating books that are not easy to get through. I've got to get my wrap up hopefully today!

You did soooo great! omg your cover of the Great Gatsby is to die for!! I still have to finish The Fellowship of the Ring! I've started it a few times now...

Thank you!! 💕 I feel ya on Fellowship of the Ring though, it seriously took me like 8 months to read it 😂😂 I recommend the audiobook! I listened to some of the earlier parts of it on audiobook and it really did help get me into it.

I am also currently reading Emma! I started it in the middle of Genrethon but...did not even get very far. I just checked and I'm on chapter 5 so yeah. My end of week was horrid. I did finish 3 books. My favorite was definitely 100 Cupboards, a MG fantasy by N.D. Wilson

OMG I want that edition of The Great Gatsby. Persuasion is the best Jane Austen after Pride and Prejudice!

5 books in a week is awesome. I'm lucky to get 2 most weeks. Felt the same way about LOTR though I think I gave it a 3.5. It was hard in the middle and after the mines for me.

Great you read so much for your first readathon! Five books is pretty great indeed. I really loved The Great Gatsby. It's such a great story. And it's nice and short too. Have you heard about the first cover? How the art inspired Fitzgerald to add the eyes of Dr. T.J. Eckleburg (something like that) in the story
@AClockworkReader8 жыл бұрын
+Marieke Mills Yes! My book bag for school actually has the original cover printed on it lolll :D

Kudos! You read some pretty tough books for a readathon! :) I just got the fellowship of the ring on audiobook, so I can't wait to listen to it! I also just started Pride and Prejudice (my first time reading a classic) and the dialogue cracks me up. I can't picture people actually talking like that to each other XD.

+Books are my Social Life Hahah yeah the dialoge can be tough to adjust to, but it's so witty! I highly recommend watching the Pride and Prejudice movie (the 2005 version) after you read it! It's FANTASTIC and so accurate to the book and personally, I think it makes the book even more enjoyable :D

Ooh! Noted! thanks, I was really wondering about what adaptations to look at after I've finished the book because there are so many! XD

if you like the Lost Generation etc you should REALLY REALLY REALLY read The Post Office Girl by Stefan Zweig! It is set during the 1920's and It will haunt you for a long time, it's amazing!

I love Hemingway! But I haven't ever read any of his short stories yet. And yeah whenever I start recording a train always goes by so there's that.
@AClockworkReader8 жыл бұрын
If you want to try out his stories I highly recommend "Clean Well Lighted Place" and "Hills Like White Elephants" those are my two favorites! And omg that's the worst! And super long I'm assuming lolll

How odd I also read pride and prejudice in 6th grade when I was 11. But that's where the similarities end. I struggled with the language and was super bored. I ended up dnfing it. Many years later I am picking it up again and I am so frustrated with it still. I'm starting to think I didn't actually struggle with the language. That I genuinely did not like the book. I will be finishing it this time no matter how hard it is. I'm just sooo sad. I have read countless books and other things inspired by this book and loved them sooooo much! I want to love this book but it's a real struggle. Loads of ppl said this book is the best book ever written and soooo much better than Jane Eyre. I personally disagree. Jane Eyre is my #1 favorite book in the world and I don't think I will EVER read a book better than it. Also 5 books in a week!? HOLY CRAP GOOD JOB!!!

I read Great Gatsby just after high-school and I think I need to reread it, as similar to what you said about Pride & Prejudice, I definitely did not understand it fully at the time! I've never read LORT - it's also on my embarrassed not to have read list! One day One day.... haha. I finished all the books on TBR which came as a huge shock to me - thought two were graphic novels :) x
@AClockworkReader8 жыл бұрын
I just watched your wrap up, and I already said this over there, but you did such an amazing job!! I actually felt the same way about Gatsby too the first time I read it. I was a sophomore in high school and while I enjoyed it, I never truly grasped the meaning until I reread it in my junior year English class. Have you seen the LOTR movies? Because if you haven't, I'm curious to hear your thoughts on it having never seen the movies. I feel like my perception of the book was heavily influenced by having watched the movie first 😁
@TheGardenofReadin8 жыл бұрын
Definitely need to reread it then! (I don't reread enough as it is...so many books so little time). I have seen all the movies unfortunately so I cannot go to it with a fresh mind! Though that was a fairly long time ago now, so they are slightly fuzzy. I remember thinking they were all to long, but I loved the fantasy genre so i really liked the epicness of it all.
