I feel like a lot of people have trouble distinguishing between a well written character, and a good or bad character. For example, I don't like Signora as a harbinger, but as a character she's so interesting and entertaining to me. So I definitely said I liked her, even though she's a villain to us in the story

It’s not really about how well written they are, it’s about how much people like them. Signora being hated should be a compliment, as it shows how good she is as a villain. She’s supposed to be against us, and her intended purpose isn’t for us to like her personality or actions. If the poll specified an option to choose whether or not she was well written, the hate ratio would be different.

@@xymidori I feel like its because 1) not everyone listens to the voicelines, and they never got to know how he actually is despite him grumpy/edgy in the main quests, and 2) people feel like him lashing out on kaeya was unreasonable/wrong. I for one think it was understandable cause my guy got death, loss and betrayal for his birthday. It wasn't right, but c'mon, cut him some slack

Personally I just don't like alloy at all. This has to do with the lore and constellations. You can't even get her to C1 because for her it doesn't exist and lore wise she has no story besides "I came from another world to help you" she was never properly introduced. In honkai they properly introduced Fischl and Kequing so you can't say "They didn't have time to give her an intro"

I think people dislike him because of the fan base tbh. There’s a lot of hype towards his character, he’s everywhere, so much to the point where sometimes I get the fans’ version of Childe and his actual character mixed up. It kind of ruined his character for me, I’m a late player so before I could even get to know his character I had people throwing him and his whole backstory at me. Constantly. But anyway, if I think about it, I do genuinely like Childe, I just wish it wasn’t so over shadowed by how much the community talks about him.

I'm a little dissapointed on people for having placed all the villains in the disliked top tbh. A character being a villain doesn't mean you have to automatically dislike them. You can enjoy them as a villain. Genshin villains are really cool characters. I don't understand people that don't tolerate morally grey characters 🤔

It's not really hard to understand though, there's a reason why they're called morally grey characters, because even though these characters can a have a good reason to do what they do, it doesn't erase the thing they've done. Like we can't forgot that Childe literally almost drowned the whole of Liyue even if it was his job to do so, and I think it's a valid reason to dislike him (although, to me I didn't really mind that bcs I didn't care much for it) personally, I think he's a well written villain, but whenever he pops up on the screen, I realize how much he gets on my nerves, not because he's a villain, just because I find him a bit annoying, and this is coming from someone who actually likes Signora. So I say it's not because they're villains necessarily, but because these genshin villains have made some sort of move towards another fan fan favorite character, like la Signora kicking venti, scaramouche indirectly causing teppei's death etc Or because they're just easy to dislike due the way they act. Like I find scaramouche annoying because to me, he just comes off as a prick, even though I am so damn Invested in his character. So, someone can appreciate a morally gray character, but that doesn't automatically mean they like them. Like I see people simping for villains all the time, so I wouldn't necessarily say that people automatically hate villain just because they're villains. It's the opposite really, nowadays being a villain is considered badass, so people automatically like them.At least most of them.

The diluc one surprised me because his voicelines are so sweet. He's always looking out for you and enjoying your company. He's stern, but he's not hateful or anything. I was also a little surprised, but shouldn't be surprised on Scaramouche. I expected him to be more neutral. Then again, people despise him for what he indirectly did to and said about teppei. I say indirectly, because I don't think he personally gave out the delusions and more or less only oversaw the factory. He even tells us that the true enemy we're after is Signora. I myself love Scaramouche and can't wait for him to become playable. I love the mystery behind him and how it's hinted that he used to be a kind person. I really want to know how his character arc will unravel. I kinda feel bad for Aloy being as high as she is. It feels undeserved, she's just a crossover character that was used to premote both her game and genshin. Which I do find sad, and it's also sadder that they couldn't give her a decent kit. Her fighting style is very inconsistent and I feel that if she was a better character to play, her dislike would be lower. I think she just really suffers from bad circumstance. So I really do pity her.

diluc ruined zhongli banner for me three times in a row. All zhongli banners since the game started. C2 Diluc. I’ve played him basically since I started the game, have friendship 9 diluc because he was the only five star I had for four ish months until albedo and even after that he still had to stay because of his damage. It took until getting Kazuha in June 2021 I could finally boot him off my team. I really dislike his character and despite his voice lines being nice, it isn’t enough for me at all to like him. I was enraged every time I played as him, which was the first 8 months of my genshin life. if he was just slightly more interesting? maybe i wouldnt have minded losing to 50/50. But i remember when i first started the game and saw him i was like “this is definitely the only character id dislike pulling ever in this entire roster” two years later that statement still holds true 💀 I think i’d like him more personality and character wise if I never got him at all.

@@nox9749 I just dislike her being in the game because she has nothing in the game besides her gameplay, how the hell is she there? Why not just a simple story of how she got there? How she navigates there? How she interacts with the traveler and Paimon? That would've been much better for her, most people completely forgot her because besides being a free five star (who disappears in a year if not claimed, not to mention can't even be claimed if joining after the collaboration), she has no presence in the game whatsoever. the only bad thing in my opinion about Aloy it's the way Mihoyo gave it to us, like, they didn't do an event or at least a mini quest for us to know her better like most of the characters of the game, like, c'mon! She has a lot in common with the traveler (they are both from different worlds as far as I remember) and they didn't gave us an opportunity to see them interact or anything. i personally haven’t played h0d but aloy has some really sweet teapot lines, and even if she isn’t really involved with the story, i think it’s sweet that the traveler has another outsider to hang out with. Besides, this wouldn’t be mihoyo/hoyoverse’s first strange cross-over; Atsuka from NGE is in Honkai Impact so i think this is just keeping with tradition

Overall the character design in Genshin is really amazing. There's something to like for everyone, and they tend to stand out from one another. I adore that Tartaglia has a good mix of likes and dislikes. It feels right for his character! Diluc though? Whoa. That's weird!

Tartaglia also gets some unjustified hate because he's had "so many reruns", even though other characters have ALSO had two reruns, just like him (Zhongli, for example) and aren't receiving any dislike because of it. Double standard basically.

I would’ve found this a little more interesting if people had liked/disliked characters based on a specific feature. Some people answered this with character personality in mind while others answered it based on what characters are strong or fun to play. It’s cool to see the overall top 10s, but I really would’ve like if it’d been more specific. Thoma is very disappointing for most players to use in-game, but his personality is so well appreciated that he made it into the top 10. Kazuha is also well-liked, but mostly for being strong and fun to use rather than for having an interesting personality. This isn’t to say that Thoma’s completely useless, or that Kazuha has no personality, but rather that they’re clearly in the top 10 for completely different reasons.

@@bookswithike3256 I'm not saying that players have a problem with Kazuha, I'm just saying that his character (in terms of personality) is not nearly popular enough to get him onto a top 10 list for personality. There are just so many other characters in the game that the majority of players prefer. Personally, I love Kazuha. He just doesn't stand out very much over other characters. I have a few friends who find him boring, and one friend who loves him. I just feel mostly indifferent myself.

It is, but it's important to recognize why he does. The two biggest reasons are the "amount of reruns" and "KZbinr opinions". Starting with his amount of reruns, he's had only two Reruns. Other characters, including Zhongli, have also had two reruns, but they don't also see this unjustified hate for it. It's a double standard that is perplexing, since people continue to bring it up even when more and more characters have now had the same amount of reruns. Second reason is KZbinr opinions. Multiple big KZbinrs have written off Childe as a character because of the more complex nature of him. Why, as a KZbinr that desires to look skillful, would you utilize a character that takes skill over a brainless one that makes you look amazing without effort? Naturally, they aren't going to say the real reason they aren't using him, so they give excuses like "he has a long cooldown" (cooldown is naturally when you'd be switching to your supports anyways, so it's quite literally not a issue, plus his ability grants you the ultimate choice on how long the cooldown will be). That's ultimately where a absolute ton of hate comes from, misconceptions of his kit spoken from the mouths of KZbinrs that don't want to utilize skillful characters, but also don't want to expose themselves. The more we destroy misconceptions, the less unjustified hate.

Plus most people won’t hate Zhongli for what happened with Liyue because Liyue was never in any danger. If they’d proven unable to handle it, Zhongli would’ve simply stopped Osial himself.

I really dislike his pompous voice. If it sounded differently, i’d be more open, despite disliking him, to understand him better. I don’t like the lying to qiqi about loving her though. Yeah he took her in, gave her a home. And yeah he needs to so he can keep her around but at the end of the day hes lying about loving to her to keep her around for *his* sake and *his* betterment and studies. He would need to be really really well written for people to be able to brush that away.

Also, I’m sorry this is a personal take, but I think it’s best to not get too connected to that which is meant to be dead. Qiqi is a zombie and if anyones to blame, it’s the adepti that killed her and had to nerve to bring her back to life with little to no guidance. Which is why I’m glad Baizhu is there to give her a purpose that she needed. Otherwise she’d be wandering and probably would deteriorate over time without Baizhu’s detailed notes on how to take care of herself. Anyways, besides that, I do agree with the voice comment. I’m not a huge fan of the English dub for him, but it is what it is.

he is a very interesting character and im curious for when he's eventually released actually. i feel the same way about him as i do for kaeya. very intriguing character overall, awesome design but i really cant vibe with both of them. i dont know why i feel like im more biased with baizhu tho. i am a hu tao stan first and foremost after all (also because of a fan comic i saw once that left me with very mixed feelings about him). im sorry baizhu :(

I am devastated, Enjou, Tartaglia, Signora and even Scaramouche belong to the most entertaining characters for me 😭 You know once they appear, something is about to happen, they never go without leaving a mark. They actually have a personality and bring in some spice. I get not everyone enjoys villains, but they're well written and for me personally are more interesting than some characters in the "like" list. To each their own though! But I find Diluc surprising. He gets mischaracterized a lot, he's actually such a sweetheart and funny in his own way. And Kaeya not being in the "Like" category is quite surprising for me as well.

I think female characters are at an inherent disadvantage since there are fewer male characters. So those who tend to prefer male characters have less to choose from and thus vote for. The votes for female characters were probably way more spread out.

Yeahh me too as a Scaramouche fan(simp). There's no way you will not get a few judgemental looks if you say you like him, since he's such a morally grey character especially what happened in the 2.1 archon quest which isn't even his fault :0 . I would imagine him and Signora having mostly neutral votes since the lore did made them somewhat of a pitiful character.

@@omgitsutopia the funny thing about the genshin community is they like to twist characters' personalities to fit a mold; Kaeya and Childe being playboys, Scaramouche being a toxic piece of you know what, Thoma being a sweet little house husband, etc. and some people take it..... wayyy too far. So what we've actually seen and read about Scara isn't nearly as bad as people make it out to be. He's just the perfect case of an antisocial narcissist 🤷🏼‍♀️

@@peachie9613 As someone who played in the 1.1 event for him, I feel like the reason why he and Childe was treated differently is because Childe did have a friendly side to him despite being battle hungry and a fatui. Plus he is set to be a gentle brotherly figure so thats why some would like him. As for Kunikuzu, the reason most people didn't like him or just neutral about him is because of him having a foul mouth and he is still somewhat hostile towards us. Or the fact that he did try to kill us at some point :'). This is just my overall opinion and observations from all the past events so yea

The way I see it, seems like Sony were the ones forcing the collab because of the new game, which is interesting because they pretty much left it to die releasing alongside Elden Ring. Aloy's VC is not even the original and worst... is not even credited at all. One has to wonder what the hell happened... Kinda looks like Sony don't like Horizon as a franchise XD

@@Anvitzi Agreed, I'm not really bothered by Aloy herself, I'm more bothered by how she got to Teyvat, plus as someone who loves MiHoYo's games and having seen how well they did with the Neon Genesis Evangelion collaboration in Honkai Impact, this felt more like something that was shoved on to them with no choice by Sony, more so than an actual collaboration. Most likely to promote the new game and wouldn't be surprised if Genshin's PlayStation/Sony contract included some sort of obligation that they have to participate in any collab that they give them. Which also brings the question if Genshin would even be allowed to have a collaboration with a series IP that doesn't belong to Sony. It also just kind of felt like a D tier collaboration in terms of effort, and personally I wanted to see what kind of event/quest it was going to be since Horizon isn't the kind of game that I like playing, just because the main combat style is having to aim and shoot and I am horrible at any game that requires me to do that to take down an enemy.

I personally LOVE Horizon and this collab could've been done differently but also bet they did it on purpose because Sony at this point is known to force studios to do what they want. Sony most likely force Aloy in the game but Mihoyo had the last word on her playstyle and abilities as well what event they would be doing with her due to their contract, having some level on freedom which is rare. If that was the case, then it was a good way to say "Fuck your collab, let us do what we want" XD I really hope There not another Sony collab though, those characters don't fit in this game, I forgive Aloy because she isn't that bad but if they bring Kratos then we are gonna have a problem.

I actually have Alloy on my exploration/gathering team, but I can understand why most other players would dislike her. It may have not as much to do with the actual character as the way she's implemented into the game that people hate. As others have mentioned, she's just haphazardly tossed into the game with no quest line or initial interaction. Also, the fact that she has no active constellation just reeks of laziness by Hoyoverse, and thus the character may feel tainted in that regard, no one wants to play with an incomplete product or broken toy. Personally though I like spamming her burst with Noblesse. Poor Alloy, they did her dirty.

I'm not sure if this is correct (correct me if I'm wrong), I heard it's bc the collab is forced by Sony (especially with how they leaked Aloy's images on their social media) and Hoyo did not want anything to do with her so thats why she felt like she's chucked here and left to die. Tho I don't think thats an excuse for Hoyo to just do her like that, heck I hate how the only thing she's good for is her passive(which bugged alot) and her E auto aims is so bad it pains me. But overall I won't comment further on her, since I do not play the original game she's from but I do hate what she has become in the hands of Hoyo. Rip Aloy's constellation. :')

I have her on my hunter/gatherer team as well. But I don't really like her in this game. She was a very likeable character in her original game (no idea about the sequel), but here she feels more generic. Though her design is actually fine, if a bit simplified anime style compared her origin. Also, I think her grunts of exertion (like while dashing) are way too aggressive compared to everyone else in the game. Most characters are like "hyup, hep" while doing the climb jumps, while she's more like "HAA! HEAURGH!" The game is too chill for that.

That just hurts, Diluc and child have some of the saddest backstories. Childe is in the fauti to get money for his family and is forced to leave them to go to liyue, while Diluc was forced to kill his father to prevent his of having a long painful death, and his dream was broken, He has no friends (that's why he is so caring to traveller cuz he can be his true self) and he has a sad path with Kaeya. They deserve better-

I'm glad Albedo made 2nd place. I started playing late 2021 so I first saw his character in Shadows admist snowstorms and I fell in love with him ever since. As Koomax mentioned he's kind, has witty dialogue and is intelligent and handsome, but he also has a very cool backstory. When I heard that people hated Albedo upon his initial release all I could think was"...How? The man literally has everything going for him?"

She murdered a lot of people because of her ideal “eternity”, caused a great suffering to her people and abandoned scaramouche but she didn’t faced any consequences?! Tbh i love Aloy's whole cryo bomb move but her personality is sadly lacking. She is fun to play and gives lots of cryo particles though which is amazing.

I like Aloy in Horizon, she's super cool, but also Genshin isn't the kind of game that she fits into really at all, both visually and linguistically(?) (the way genshin writes, she doesn't fit) She looks out of place, feels out of place, and the game isn't one that would give you the chance to enjoy her. The only reason I have a positive opinion of Aloy is because I played Horizon. I'm just iffy on her inclusion to Genshin, less about the "this isn't your game" and more about how this isn't the type of game where the kind of character Aloy is would be fitting.

I think where the collab goes wrong is exactly how it was done. This wasn't some Genshin x HZD where u have an event, part ad part event showing you why Aloy is such a cool character (i've never played hzd) So Aloy arrived to my mail with 0 fanfare and inherently 0 value, had to google her, tried her for a couple minutes, that cryo stacking aint for me. Got my 20lvl pull and off to the closet she went. People might dislike her because she feels like some kind of penny pinching malicious compliance character done by mhy to some kind of publisher deal.

The ones who like Scaramouche remind me of people who humanize/nitpick the good side from Azula from ATLA. It's hard to take shit seriously also considering that his lore is still in the Husk arifacts, and if HYV does a good job executing it (like the Thundering Fury lore with Tsurumi Island), I might reconsider

@@ArnoldFrost At first I was like, "hey I like scaramouche and don't like Azula so hah". But then I thought about it a bit more and I guess I do humanize Azula's 'good' side haha. It's still true that I don't like Azula as a person, but I like how she was written as an antagonist. We're shown some good sides (covering for zuko when he rejoined the fire nation), a lot of bad sides (she is a complete b*tch), and how she ended up the way she did (big fat mummy issues + toxic family + war + responsibility + ego). She's a villain of the story but all these different aspects of her make her believable, human, and that makes her villainy very compelling. I guess I like Scara more because his lore indicates he used to be genuinely kind and happy with katsuragi, isn't driven by ego but rather a desire to prove his worth (with the gnosis), and maybe revenge but who doesn't like a little spicy revenge. I'm really interested to see what they do with his character since for the longest time, his goal was to get the gnosis but it turned out it wasn't what he'd hoped. I really hope they execute his future story well... I will be so disappointed if they botched such an interesting character with so much potential!! (please don't redeem him, i want him to stay a little gremlin)

If he had a different voice in English dub, and it was similar to Chinese and Japanese dubs, I would love him more tbh. I think people also like him because he has a very pretty design. @@moraelity I mean, that's perfectly valid. Most people probably focus on his dialogue and such, though. I will always admit that in terms of casting alone, Keith is stellar in the role (and not just because that dark corner of my brain imagines Hawkmoth in Teyvat), but you are absolutely allowed to dislike how the voice acting impacts the soundscape of your combat experience. The design is another point that shifts things in his favor, yeah. Even as a straight guy I will admit he's gorgeous, and I'm sure that sways the numbers more than a little.

I feel like Enjou was the most interesting character we had in a while that did not actually have his own personal design. I feel like he would be more popular if he had an original design because honestly, his personality was more interesting than some of the actual individual characters. I'm still hoping he will appear again... I know it was said they will likely not see him again but who knows... Either way, I enjoyed the dynamic and it's obvious he left a lasting impact on people to even make the list, even in a negative way. I think he would have been less in the neutral part if he actually had more appearances and his own design. Not to mention some may not even know who he is yet as he's only appearing very late into the story. I know some people haven't reached Enkanomiya yet or rushed through his dialogue as he was just looking like an NPC and they wanted to unlock the boss for Yae Miko.

I love Aloy, I just don't like that they made her cryo. Aloy should have been geo 100%, my dad and I both hate that, we both are huge fans of Horizon: Zero Dawn. I'm actually currently playing it so I know Aloy's story (cuz I don't know it), and it's freaking breathtaking, it's so beautiful, but scary too. My dad is replaying it so he can play the 2nd game. Again my dad and I love Aloy, we just feel that she should have been geo, it would've made more sense in our opinion.

In HZD she's a fully fleshed out character with lots of likeable personality. In this game she's more of a generic type character. They really didn't do her justice with that. With regards to her element it's kind of tricky. Since during her game she uses a lot of different elements. It was quite some time since I played it but I remember using fire arrows a lot to set everything on fire and later the sonic (or whatever they were) arrows to dislodge important pieces of robots. A lot of her kit is kinda fuzzy to me by now but I'm curious to know why you and your dad thinks she should be Geo.

All the characters mentioned as "dishonorable mentions" have one thing in common: their kit do not scale well into the late game, not actually because the characters are hated. Spoilers below, so you have been warned. Barbara, Amber, and Lisa are F2P characters, meant to be fodder for your team until you can find better options. I kind of feel their kits were deliberately scaled down so players will be strong armed to wish for other characters in the gacha (common tactic in F2P games, not going to lie), especially once you reach the late game, where even mobs are at levels in the 80s and 90s. Qiqi is a 5 star healer type, but after playing her in the trials, I get why she is not a staple on teams. Her skill has a long cooldown, and her damage output is not all that good, which is kind of a letdown, since you expect 5 star characters to be borderline game breakers like the archons. Her only saving grace, like the 3 above, is her cute design and innocent personality. Kujo Sara is just a straight up disappointment despite being hyped up as a major character in the Inazuma arc. Like I said, a recurring theme for these dishonorable mentions is how poorly scaled the characters' kit are geared towards the mid and especially late game. Her character does grow as the story progresses, but it's not obvious enough. I think she deserves her Hangout Event before opinions change.

As an Aloy main myself, compared to Genshin and Her og game Horizon Zero Dawn, The Genshin version of Aloy is so bland. The way they scripted her lines are so generic and the way they want us to feel bad for her with her backstories feels forced and not written well at all. They really did dirty to Aloy. In her real game, her backstories are really good and personality wise, the OG version is better. Yeah. Her original version is one of the best protagonists in a decade or two. This version is just bland with some really aggressive grunting. Not to mention her gameplay is inconsistent and incomplete.

I believe one of the reasons why people dislike Diluc is his vibe. (There's just something about him, and I dont know what.) Diluc is a great character and I like him, but sometimes, even I have that uncontrolled feeling of dislike/annoyance that randomly springs up when I see the guy. I dont know why and I feel bad- XD Putting that aside, he is genuinely a great character❤️. And yes, most people tend to misunderstand him and his lore. He's not really a moody and emo person. He's caring for the traveller and deapite his dislike for the knights, he still holds respect for Jean and has a civil relationship with Kaeya. I believe Diluc still cares for Kaeya. He's a sweet guy, his past just haunts him most of the time.

I think an interesting survey prompt would be a like to dislike scale of a characters in game mechanics. It probably wouldn't work well unless it was on a 1-5(or whatever other number range) scale, but it would still be pretty interesting to see

Childe and Albedo are my favorite characters. I even put them together in my exploration team. Their main stories related to Fatui and Khaenri'ah respectively makes me believe they will have a long story to tell in future story quests. They look promising to be the most solid characters in the game.

I'm. Personally holding my breath on Scaramouche. I feel like he is interesting, but I don't vibe with his actions, but also I don't hate him. I think I want to like him, but refuse to until he either becomes playable or dies. It's odd though, totally different from what I feel for his collegues. I hated everything about Childe, but grew to like him after his story quest, and now he's like that one guy i wouldn't mind getting in midnight sheningas in a Chipotle parking lot with. Signora is stunning, an absolute hottie, but I DESPISE her with every fiber of my being. I think I would like who she used to be beforw becoming a Fatui, but the version we got to know in the game was... yeah, no hurting my boy Venti 7:55 I am ready to bet... it's the voice
