The music displayed more of the African inspiration for the region, but Natlan is also inspired by South America and the Ring of Fire, so even places like Hawaii and some of Oceania are present. Some of these inspirations might be more represented on map design for the region, or character design, or in the music itself. It will be a very cultural diverse and fun region for the game.

When you're playing the game, you could hear hoyo add more and more vocal tracks in game for the past year and a half and it culminated in Natlan's symphony, where they, for the very first time, used ACTUAL singing in a Nation's theme AND one of the battle themes. Hoyomix has come a long way with Genshin and i'm even more excited to hear what Snezhnaya's symphony is gonna sound like (i have a sneaking suspicion it's gonna sound similar to Battlefield 1's (no, i'm serious) "the Wolves" track))

Recently, I was rewatching this performance I used to watch all the time as a teen, and one of the sections features an ensemble of Russian dancers, performing to a more Russian-influenced music. I already knew the song but it had been a while since I last heard it, and while rewatching it, I IMMEDIATELY thought that an overworld Genshin battle song in Snezhnaya could sound exactly like that! It's called "Russian Dervish / Morning in Macedonia" from the Riverdance show. TBH I really hope it's something lively and epic like that when we get there!

Just so you know, for these 'live performances' they record all together in a studio beforehand and then go to a cool location to film the visuals. So you were completely right abt your suspicions.

Late respond, I would assuming you are right, but that doesnt mean the performances is just for visuals since they actually host concerts time to time, so the skills and standards are there. The Concert which was (and will) hosting in Shanghai is very good and they really tried to coordinate everything in harmony as possible.

@@thuantruong501 Oh don't get me wrong, the orchestra did what they did masterfully, but he was mainly talking about how the percussion was very loud, and that's was possible in this case because they were able to boost the audio of the studio recording. Once I heard the second theme I knew you and another KZbin drummer/reactor Samizard would be gushing, particularly over the second song. I have a similar relationship with this music as I did with Sumeru. Despite not being from these parts of the world (well with Natlan I am technically), because of my parents I grew up around so many of these cultures, religions, ideologies, and music from around the world. Especially since my dad collected world instruments, especially percussion. I didn’t initially process that the djembe was a foreign instrument despite logically knowing that it is because it was so normal for me growing up, and it definitely was one of the less the exotic instruments in my house. The kora, which is not something I had around me growing up, is one of my favorite instruments, so I was glad to see it here. Since more or less the beginning of the game we knew that Natlan would be inspired by pre-Colombian Mesoamerican and possibly some west African cultures or Afro-Latino/Afro-Caribbean culture because of the character Iansan. Last year we learned that the African influence was definitely there and more prevalent than we had realized, and most recently we found out more or less the full scope. Natlan is split between African, Mesoamerican, Incan, and Polynesian cultures, as well as some degree of post-Columbian Latin American culture, at least in the music. The cultures are split up between the 6 tribes of Natlan, and will probably incorporate a few more in ancient Natlan lore, like Celtic and Roman culture in ancient Fontaine (Aremorica and Remuria) or Egyptian and Turkic(pan-Turkic not just Ottoman) cultures in the deserts of ancient Sumeru. This battle theme was definitely the African side, and another one I’ve heard in some official videos is more Latin American, so I imagine the third battle theme will be more Polynesian. One song we’ve heard also has clear bossa nova influences, which has appeared twice elsewhere in the game, too. Bossa nova and capybaras are all I need to claim a Brazilian W.

As far as I know these music videos have never been live recordings, they don't have the mic setup to capture the individual instruments well. Not to mention the performance difficulty doing it all together and getting the exact performance out of solo instruments without stopping the whole orchestra for single bar retakes. The exception is Liyue, which that stage was the recording setup and the video wasn't a highly produced music video. Very visible recording setup and you can hear the environment.

Then I start to doubt it after listening to the mixing work they do for the live concerts and for those no way in heck they could be layering tracks in post.

This isn't live but, I'd say the final version we get is still something exclusive to this purpose (what I mean is that they're not using the game version or doing a mere playback). Probably they simply record them in several takes in different days with optimal gear, and then mix them all together. After that, they call all the musicians to do the official video with all the cameras, enviromental effects, traditional clothing, and stuff.

They had African people singing in their music to have that authenticity but we still don't have that representation in game a la skin colors. If the lead singer wanted to feel represented in game - it's sad to say that they currently aren't.. I hope we get more people of color for Natlan as the patches roll out *fingers crossed*

it's always nice to have the music fit what the region is inspired by, but for better or worse a lot of genshin music just isn't stuff i'd put on my playlist because not my style xd. natlan's isn't really much different to me day 33 of suggesting "the shadows" by taishi. consider listening to the one specifically marked as "with error" first. afterwards, read the comments under it and the one not marked as with error. more context in day 1. also "思い出かけら" by sweet dove (this has crazy time signatures and i got a whole paragraph about it from the composer, if you ever react to it I'll comment on it below. there are also english lyric translations)
