Technically speaking, Katsuki "defeated" AFO - not in the real way. There are some main factors: 1. AFO lost a lot of quirks, due to the fact, that his head was destroyed by prime All might (but, we can write those quirks off, as sensory quirks, that are connected to eyes, ears and such. So, those, that would have been useless with his scar). 2. AFO, during the whole anime, since the first time we got to see him in Kamino - was using copies of quirks. Even a copy of his own quirk. And, as it was mentioned in his fight against Endeavor and others, his control over copies - is weakened. They are more chaotic, than ever. 3. During the whole "rewinding" fiasco of his, his personality was influenced by Tomura's hatred, making AFO - irrational? Impulsive, even? But, this state has a charm of its own - his quirks got stronger. 4. AFO is known for his love to combine multiple quirks at once, making monstrous appearance (not neccessary), along with - catastrophic damage. But, in this "rewinding" state - he was severely limited in this aspect. The more quirks he would use - the faster he would rewind, so, it's a no go for him to use his combinations. 5. He is, by the sole fact of his body rewinding - had limited time. The more damage he took, the younger he was (so, Tokoyami, Mt Lady and Machia - did more damage to him, than armored All might. With them, he went from looking like a 40 year old, to a teenager? Young adult? Meanwhile, imagine if Izuku attacked him, if those 3 - made so much damage). Conclusion: combining the 2nd fact, that implies, that his quirks are chaotic and, rebel against him. Along with - being weaker, than the original ones (probably) - we have an awful control. Add to the mix 3rd fact, that made his quirks EVEN stronger. And, as we know, the stronger a power is, the harder it is to control, logically. So, an awful control + even harder to control quirks, that can HURT him now, but, at least - a nice buff to his powers. AFO is known for planning, being devoid of any real emotions (besides his desperation to get Yoichi). And, thanks to his vast knowledge and, experience - he is more of a thinker, than a brawn type of guy. But, due to Tomura's influence - he was more like a USJ Tomura - a man child (berserk). And, now, the limited usage of his quirks, if he doesn't want to be rewinded. What I meant to say, that, in comparison with the real prime AFO, current one has problems xd. To simplify it, current AFO is better than his prime version, only if we compare their destructive abilities. He has more raw power, and, different quirks. But, he can't even use them freely, being limited in their usage. But, his prime version - could just out live him, as he doesn't have a limit to his time. Or, he could just, simply, use ultimate combinations of quirks against him, making the current AFO - recieve more damage, and, in turn - get younger... But, we have no real knowledge, if prime AFO had useful regeneration quirks, so, attacks from the berserker AFO - could be... Massive

Actually it is gearshift it's a meta ability that can change the speed of anything it touches transmission would most likely be different then what gearshift can do, like most likely teleporting or something or communicating distance.
