It sucks because Genshin is a cool game if you can get over that first hurdle, but a lot of new players wont get over that hurdle and now after playing the game again I can totally see why... also Dear God Please Like and Sub this shit took me 2 months to replay through the game again lmao

It's the exact opposite for me. I loved it at the beginning because it felt so immersive, and now that I've lost the immersion and realising this game's flaws, I'm only playing to save up for a flying character that's worth C6ing. Possibly Chasca or Mavuika.

Considering that this is a gacha game with all the horrible bells and whistles it entails, it's probably for the best. Genshin is a game I would not recommend to anyone, even though I myself play it from time to time.

I just started a few months ago, very sparingly at first, so, here’s another thing that this video didn’t touch on but has caused me massive pain: how impossible it can be to ascend some of your characters. Requiring boss materials from a region you haven’t been to is a huge hurdle- as is obtaining the flowers for it. I managed to pull Yelan while I was still in Mondstat- and her and Thoma were going to be my main team simply because I had fun playing them together. Issue is, I couldn’t ascend either of them due to not being able to access the resourced needed. So my cool new five star and my cool new four star just felt sad to play with. I also just pulled Chiori- and, while I was able to get her boss drops due to a teleport waypoint already being unlocked for me in Fontaine, before I had ever been there- I… cannot get her flowers yet, because it’s from somewhere I haven’t been. So, what am I really meant to… do, here? Not play the characters I love? Or play them while they’re struggling to do any damage due to being underleveled? Speedrun through the main story just to get my team up to a halfway decent standard?? I really wish there was a merchant or something in Mondstat that sold you flowers from around the world, or a system to exchange one kind of boss drop for another, like in hsr- but I have yet to find either of those things.
@Stella-fk4jj

I totally agree on this issue! And it's even completely possible to do, to make Flora the flower girl in Mondstadt, a flower merchant! It would fit her perfectly and be cute and helpful!

Yelan you can ascend right now. She just uses the liyue conch shells. They have long implemented a free teleport into the Chasm (it's on another map layer like the teapot), so you can fight the Onix for her. Thoma you need to do world quests in Inazuma to unlock his resource. And I do yell at them to implement a black market somewhere for his specialty since no living person should be able to get them (lore), but you really won't need to worry about ascending him until you naturally get over there. He was my first ever rolled character. You'd be surprised how much the artifact system actually gives for stats. Mine was off banner, locked at level 20. He was carry my butt while everyone else was easily 40-50+. Chiori just needs the first area of Inazuma unlocked and you're fine. If you do the character trials each banner, you're always able to ascend everyone to 40. After that point, you should be strong enough and comfortable enough to explore and naturally raise whomever afterwards.

That has been something people complained about for years and Genshin dev like always doesn't listen. One thing I also hate about this is how bad it is for the lore of the game. I get it you made a new boss and like all boss you want it's resources to be used for character ascension but how on earth is Yunjin supposed to even know of the existence of the ghost island and the otherworldly being that is the geo wolf king thing like bruh. We already have 2 Geo boss in Liyue and that's not counting the mecha serpent why she doesn't use any of those for ascension???

genshin has gotten to a point where it's better to enjoy the game at a slower pace and i always rec to new players to take their time and don't rush cause the burnout can happen a lot faster due to so much content. i'm one of those who actively enjoys the desert and didn't mind the desert expansions. i go back there from time to time to just run around, esp the khaenri'ah-related areas cause i'm khaenri'ah simp but i recognize that there was a lot of content that not everyone was thrilled to interact with that was released over the course of 3.x. it's better to just set aside time to make progress. my entire map of teyvat is 100% and while i go back to those areas to just run around (enkanomiya, my everything), it's not something everyone likes to do. and on the difficulty, i actively use co-op to seek out players in need of help. i don't really listen to people who call genshin an easy game, a game for kids with kid friendly difficulty as many have gotten into a position where they know the mechanics of the game and know how to cheese it. i've met many players, from ar26 up to ar58, who feel down on themselves and doubt their ability to get stronger. they grind hard to beat a boss or get through an area that's actively hostile (yashiori's perma thunderstorm party or the abundance of toaster bath water being just a great party) and they just feel hopeless. i do my best to give them encouragement and helpful pointers while keeping in mind their ar level and access to materials. i genuinely want to encourage them and get them through the material they're struggling with. many of those players are extremely grateful and really needed to hear some encouragement and knowing that someone has faith in them.

How sweet of you! And I feel like so many of have been there and without people like you may have quit or at least got so frustrated with the game and lost the joy. I don’t I would have quit but some co-ops with high lvls definitely made me feel like the game was more possible and achievable to push through what I found to be the hardest - AR 35-45 range because you are just really feeling like you’ve figured out the game yet that’s when the WL and challenges and content all try rise and at first it’s overwhelming but eventually you can get through it. I feel like this is such a great mentality to have to slow down and enjoy the journey and process where you’re at in the game instead of rushing or pushing yourself way too much and also give back and support where you can once you are at the peak of strength and with most of the game completed - almost an “end game” itself :) Wish there were more engagement and abilities to make co-op even more fun and worthwhile! Still, so glad there are players like you who make a difference!

Yep. In general, new players might feel like they HAVE to rush and catch up, depending on what kind of FOMO they're facing. Limited time event? Want to catch up on the story to avoid spoilers (especially if they use social media, so people will openly post spoilers without using filters)? Or hit up endgame ASAP? My account is decently invested enough for exploration and story, which is enough for me to chill.

Inazuma in 3 hours? Oh how I miss those days, not repeating the same day over and over in Sumeru or living the inmate life in Fontaine... Well, for new and old players we NEED a skip button for non-voiced quests. Or AT LEAST a fast-forward in them.

At ;least X8 speed forward if not outright skip due to the amount of formality bloat dialogues that happens to even so many NPCs happening only to ended up with monster-clearing or fetch-questing, this on top of how some regions have needlessly complex puzzles only for the payoff being 2 or 10 primogems, 20 primogems if being more 'generous' And 50/50 banner are still painful, especially those at 70+ pulls with little-to-no chances of multiple 5 Stars characters in a 10 pull

I dodged genshin for 4 years while my friends had been playing since the pandemic. I played for a week and completed the mondstat quest and this one adepti story in Liyue that took like 6 hours, I quit because it was all such a drag. That was 8 months ago. Friends convinced me to pick it up again. It's still a pain in the ass but the cool characters like Xilonen and Dehya are keeping me going. Obtaining Primos (premium currency) in this game is also like pulling teeth compared to other Gacha I've played. The new player experience is...yeah, it could be revamped but nothing is perfect.

Someone likes mommies. Great taste. At least we have treasure compasses now. When Genshin first launched we had no compasses. We had to jump in every nook and cranny (or more realistically watch a youtube video) to find all the chests (though I completed Mondstadt almost completely alone, only a few esoteric chests needed YT consultation) We also had no fancy movement abilities. Best we had was Kaeya/Chongyun ice bridge, Mona sprint I guess, Venti E for those who got him and the glider. Now you have Mualani, Kinich, Furina, Xilonen, Cloud Retainer (forgot her human name), Yelan, Sayu, Kazuha, even Xiao, Kirara and Kachina to make traversal more palatable (this list is probably not exhaustive, feel free to add more movement-expanding characters).

As someone who started a patch or two in Fonatine. I agree with a lot of points. And what adds to the difficulty is thay many players dont know what they should prioritize in the game which leads it to being hard. Thankfully, i found a great video with advice of what to focus on for each AR phase which made it way easier than if i had to figure it out on my own. The most crucuial advice looking back is ascending your WL way before you are actually ready. The sudden spike in enemy levels will really discourage you if you arent ready for the jump. And thats where most of my friends tend to drop the game. But thankfully, i made sure my main team was ready to ascend as soon as the WL increased so i could be more evenly matched with enemies. Now im fairly proficient in Genshin, been a little over a year now.

I came in way WAY late to the game. Started playing it at 4.8 or 4.9. Roughly when Simulanka came along. Admitedly I can see why people would give up on the first week or so. As the game mechanics are way complex for first timers. The climbing was tedious, the domains were a little confusing at times, and exploring the vast world of Teyvat can be overwhelming. Not to mention collecting all the things to raise the statue of the seven. The whole experience can be... intimidating. I remember seeing Liyue for the first time, and crossing towards Wangshu inn, it was breathtaking, but also feels like i was getting pounded with more tedious stuff to do. But I managed to plough through that first week, and have been addicted to the game ever since. The trick is to find your pace in the game. Don't ever feel like you're being left out because eventually you'll catch up with most of the players. I made it my mission to hold Inazuma Archon quests and travel all the way to Sumeru, and then Fontaine. It was a gorgeous experience, reaching those statues, waypoints, and finding more enemies to fight. By the time i resumed, I was roughly AR 30 and stopped ascending from there. Just went on over and over with every little detail, doing my weeklies and dailies like a religion. Find out those world quests was also fun. Though I wished they were voice. It was only after i reached AR 45 did i resume the archon quests in inazuma. Never rush. This game requires patience, and a little bit of mental endurance. But in the end, it was a worth while experience. Wished i could experience all those wonderful moments and sights for the first time again. Except for Sumeru. That jungle was a nightmare.

I usually never comment, but as a rather new Player (started around late December 2023) I feel like I might be able to share some of my own experiences. First off, Story Quests. I came to Genshin without any Former knowledge, I'm not even a Gacha player. So I actually loved every Story quest, even Monstadt. The Exploration between Archon Quests also wasn't a huge issue for me. IDK if I did something different, but after Liyue I didn't feel like I had to explore between Archon Quests from what I remember. But to be fair, I also naturally like exploration. I never touched the Areas before the Archon Quest. As for the grinding part. Personally, I didn't have many problems with it. I kept my characters and weapons at the highest levels, and I didn't know anything about Artifacts until later on. It's honestly just the fact that some players level up their World before their Characters are ready, and then they obviously can't keep up. Mainly, I think your issue was that you went too fast and know too much. It's just now that I know Genshin, starting over will always be a grind. As a new player, there is no knowledge and no goal to get to unless you Set yourself one. That's why restarting feels way worse than actually starting as a new player.

I feel like the biggest issue here is definitely the adventure rank issue. To me, the biggest appeal in the game is story, and it also gets people invested in the game a good chunk of the time, so story being locked behind what is essentially just a really stupid way to make sure players are ready for harder content, is not exactly helpful at all to keeping new players around.

Had a discussion with my friends about Genshin's story and I'll drop my two cents here: I personally think Genshin's main story is about *spectacle* , like the epic conclusions to the final arc of each region is actually well done (ie: ningguang drops the fking jade chamber, nahida timeloops scaramouche to defeat him, focalor's reveal). The finale is always the most memorable and well crafted part of each archon quest, but everything leading up to that is "eh" at best. And I think you described it best where: "the story is fun if you don't think about it for more than 5 seconds". In terms of storywriting, there's definitely other games that do it way better than Genshin, but Hoyo's games win in terms of *spectacle* and overall world building, that I won't deny. And then there's the world quests, yeah the world building is actually really good and interesting, but not having a skip button just burns me out and makes me not want to do anything in optional regions bcuz it's almost always the same routine of: go here > meet unique npc > watch npc solve some mystery > fight boss related to the problem > never see the npc again. As someone who thinks the world building in Genshin is cool, but don't care for non-voiced content, I just want to skip everything and explore at my own pace, then watch a lore video summarizing it.

This is the fate of any long running game/series. The intimidation factor is quite nasty. Nit to forget that if you want to have the character on the banner, you are basically forced to explore the world and do quests especially if that character is from Inazuma. One-Piece has the same issue. A lot of cool stuff is down the line but you first have to go through the east blue Saga and that is like 50 episodes alone and it only really gets good at Arlong Park which is like after the 1st 30 episodes. Not to forget that the series already has over 1100 episodes (!!) To begin with! So long that there's already a readaption in the works!

I started playing last November. I knew going in that the game was huge and there was a ton of content, so I decided to just play the game as if I were playing as each new expansion came out. I played through Mondstadt and did every quest there, then went to Liyue and did every quest there, too. And I didn't move onto Inazuma until I was max reputation in both starting zones and was 90% explored and as many quests completed as possible. And instead of just moving ahead to the next zone, I just spent my time leveling the few characters I had, farming materials, doing dailies, and events as they came up. I repeated this process for all the other zones - never leaving a zone until I was "done" with a zone (mainly max reputation). Was this the most "efficient" way to play? Probably not, but I don't care about FOMO at all (obviously), instead I just enjoy playing the game and taking my time with it. And now I'm in Natlan and (mostly) caught up - Fontaine is the one zone I still have a considerable amount of stuff left to do, but Fontaine just has so much to do anyway. And so it took about a year of playing for a couple of hours per day to get that far (though there were plenty of days I'd play for FAR more than a few hours). And for me it was totally worth it to take my time and just enjoy the game, enjoy exploring, enjoy the long side-quests. And there were times I barely played at all because I had other stuff going on (I dealt with a house fire in that time; not fun), but since I wasn't obsessed with getting to the latest content, I never was in any hurry. As a former World of Warcraft player, I know when burnout is creeping up on me, so taking breaks and not being caught up in a game's grind is key to always having fun and not getting bored with it. But yeah, if you really take your time and just do the content as it released (as best you can), it takes upwards of, I'd say somewhere around 1000+ hours? I don't know exactly how many hours I have, but at 1.5 hours per day (average) for (basically) 365 days, that's about 700(ish) hours - but it's likely to be past 1000.

I asked 5 of my friends/family to play the game and everyone got bored after the Liyue arc and quit the game entirely and I asked them why they didn't play anymore. (This was around Inazuma release) 1.) They are so intimidated by the amount of areas to explore 2.) They couldn't care about any of the characters because we were placed into the nation's problems when we get in the region and were trying to help it already despite not having any ties to the characters 3.) The elemental system and the lack of knowledge for the Energy Regen system made the game boring for them since they're just spamming normal attacks and because of the enemy hp scaling, enhancing your 2-3 star rarity artifacts literally does nothing 4.) Paimon 5.) The lack of the interactive MAP in game is a detriment to mobile users 6.) So that's the endgame? doing time gated events and dps check? 7.) Gacha System I could go on, but the new player experience is so bad. The lack of a skip button also makes it unbearable for players who only cared about exploration and combat. Soul only had a decent experience because he already knows genshin and what to do. But if you saw the amount of sidequests, pins on the map, the stupid tutorial for puzzles that doesn't make sense because of the game's jargons, which questline to take, which characters to build and which areas to go, you're in for a whole lot of disaster. BTW, none of them replayed during Natlan came out because there was still no skip button and the same end game loop since 4 years ago.

The best people to probably recommend this are those that are already into open world exploration and are used to grinding. Maybe a bit of a maso too. I used to diss gacha anime games in general, but my friend knew me, and insisted I play it. I caved in since it was free anyway, and it's available on PC. I started in 3.8, and I got sucked in once I climbed up to Liyue and saw Qingce Village for the first time. I already loved the way they spaced out the rocks for climbing while I was still coming in fresh from Mondstat with a tiny stamina bar, then the beautifully terraced landscape of Qingce welcomes me. I couldn't believe I was actually playing a free mobile gacha game. So yeah, that's how the game ate my soul. Fun combat's just a plus, and the story opened up in Liyue for me too. Best region fr fr.

Amazing overview and I relate to many of the issues you raised, I was overwhelmed but at the same time it was such a joy to be emerged and cast into the whole new world and adventure The issue encountered most when I joined in 4.8 (so not too long ago yet I’m already AR 55) was the limits to participate in events or being unable to move on due to AR rank or if a quest chain suddenly got locked by others - oh my gosh I felt mortified by the one in Liyue that blocks co-op until you complete it and it took me days, I honestly almost gave up because of how impossible it felt. Anyway, I understand the need for the game to scale up character power levels for harder content and to not make activities so simple but it made my experience as a new player immediately feel like I was excluded or tempted to rush through things before I was ready just to try to not miss out on rewards or the experience. Thankfully I’m beyond that but I recall it being very frustrating as a new player. Additionally their tutorials for game mechanics aren’t that useful and it’s not like I need every aspect spelled out but when it’s so confusing to the point you just move on (I.e., just now starting to explore Sumeru and still can’t figure out basic puzzles apparently haha) or give up. Thank goodness there are online resources but I feel like everything should be “in game” and not pull you away from the immersed experience to the point I need to seek outside resources to complete what likely is simple tasks. I do like and think things should have a learning curve and not be too simple but maybe it’s an issue of execution? Not sure but many new players are lost and left to somehow figure it out and maybe many just feel trapped or unable to move on and then drop the game I also really dislike the over emphasis on NPCs instead of better and greater character development and interactions, at least for goodness sake in character stories/quests. Thankfully I care about lore and try not to skip anything because I want to learn more and be engaged with the process and each quest but as a new player and even now, you eventually are basically taught not to care and especially when new to the world, you need ties to the characters and reasons to be invested and for many it becomes tedious or you don’t have an attachment. It really is an area that they need to focus and expand on and with so much potential Artifacts is a complete mess and wish there was a better way for players to know what to look for, what’s valuable/needed per character, and that it wasn’t so needlessly difficult to gain/build at least decent options. It’s a very difficult aspect of the game and the lack of upgrade resources certainly does make it more difficult and punishes those who want to play the game longer or invest more effort into it, strangely a disincentive instead of motivating Anyways really empathized and appreciated so many of the points you raised and you provided such a thoughtful analysis and I think your effort to create this was amazing and evident, thanks a bunch and hope the game can keep improving!

The grind! That was exactly my complaint back in 1.3! My UID starts with a 619, but the time spent is closer to a 630 because I didn't pick the game back up until the end of 1.6 I dropped genshin because I had to explore before getting to the next story. The only character I cared about was Venti, so after Mondstadt ended and I was faced this huge EXP requirement... I didn't bother. When I came back to the game, I spent upwards of 6-8 hours daily trying to play catch up so I didn't miss stuff like the GAA Quest, which I was sad about. I haven't dropped a single day in the game since I came back, I started an alt acc and my only issue is the artifact system. It's hostile to the old players, it's 100000% detrimental to newer players.

I started genshin at the end of sumeru (3.7). The beginning was really really hard. A lot of characters I got in the beginning, I couldn't level up because their local specialities were in regions I couldn't access until I did the story. I actually got heizou on standard my first day and went to inazuma using cheats my 2nd day just to level him up, and he carried me through most of the early game content. What kept me playing was sumeru. I spent a lot of time levelling up in the desert area because I enjoyed exploring the temples. Sumeru was good, because it wasn't locked behind a story quest, and I could walk there even when I was low AR. So I explored it and did quests that I actually wanted to. Early game would suck a lot if u didn't have a specific goal like I did (grinding for heizou)

As a day 1 player that logs in every day, unless it's a time limited event or the time limited Summer content areas, I have not done ANY level of exploration or questing beyond getting every statue, waypoint, and domain after Liyue (or Dragonspine if you want to get technical), because there is no incentive to. By the time Inazuma rolled around, my AR was high enough to not be gated by anything, so I didn't need to hunt chests for that purpose. I actually did a decent amount of exploration during the first Inazuma patch, but after finding out that upgrading the statue of the seven (and all subsequent nation's ones) does not give you any more max stamina, I didn't bother. For chests, I don't need the 3 star weapons, I don't need the measly amount of artifact EXP (considering I already constantly tiptoe the line of the 1800 cap and have next to nothing worth upgrading outside of yolo cope pieces given how good my current artifacts already are and how rare a piece with good substats worth rolling is and I just can't be bothered to sort through and upgrade them all or strongbox them), I don't need the EXP or Mora, and the paltry amount of primogems in every chest isn't worth my time or effort to hunt to EVENTUALLY get a pull worth. Considering I can still pull for every character I like having essentially been F2P after the first five battlepass weapons, lack of exploration primogems isn't an issue. If the quest isn't voiced, I'm not reading any of it because, as you point out, it doesn't matter in the slightest to the overarching storyline. I have perfected the dialogue mashing technique. I actually haven't done the Aranara questline because I don't care or need to, the weapon blueprints aren't worthwhile to me or my characters. Haven't done anything in Enkanomiya or the Sea of Bygone eras either because is there anything worthwhile for me to get there? No! The only reason I did all of the Chasm was to upgrade my Lumenstone because of the Dain quest! My normal quest backlog is INSANE. Can't forget I haven't hooked a single fish since getting The Catch! Exploring and questing in Genshin is fun and I enjoy it, but only when it's worthwhile to do so and it has a limited time sticker on it. Speaking of which, there's a decent limited time primogem bonus for exploring Natlan, so I'm actually going to do it! It's that easy to make it appealing enough for me to do. I was essentially on burnout for the entirety of Sumeru and Fontaine for all of these reasons + life in general, and I only just did every archon quest from Caribert all the way to the last Natlan archon quest before 5.0 ended because of the primogem bonus. I was sitting on the ABSOLUTE PEAK that was Fontaine for a YEAR. I'm actually enjoying my time playing Genshin again thanks to getting to play these fun new characters as well as my renewed interest in the story and exploration because I'm being pushed to do so by the game itself. I'm really happy with these changes and Genshin in general feeling like it's more rewarding to play and that it's respecting my time compared to the past. No longer am I logging in just to do my daily resin and mess around with the abyss.

I absolutely love all your content, please keep it up :) For me as a new player the 2 most annoying things in the game have to be the lack of availability of characters and teams i want to try alongside the time gated wall of progression with resin. I hit AR51 in about 19 days but now im out of fragile resin with 2 half assed built teams being stuck on abyss floor 11 (3 starred 10) with literally nothing i can possibly do about it except for wait or pay. That being said - i am not here for exploration, it really is just a chore for me. i am here for the intricate elemental reactions, team building and counter stratting different enemies with different characters. But as a new player I just simply dont have access to enough characters to even have a chance at experiencing that which has to be the biggest frustration in this game for me.

I'm not sure if this has been said yet, but I also firmly dislike the rate at which characters are rerun. It's an absolute nightmare for new players, who have their sights set on a specific character only for that specific character to never come back, so you end up sitting on your wishes while waiting for the character you so desperately want. Us day one players don't really struggle with keeping up with character pulls, our accounts are stacked to the point we've been wishing for the signature weapons. But I also remember those newer players who couldn't even get Eula when she wasn't being rerun for over a whole year, again, sitting upon a mountain of currency and even when they finally get their hands on that character (including several cons because why not) the experience becomes lackluster and unfulfilling, because there's nothing left to do with that character anymore.

I started playing about 2 months ago and I totally agree that locking parts of the map behind quests is terrible. I hated The Chasm and the quests to open certain parts of Inazuma (it's like 3 or 4 different areas locked); however, the combat, so far, has not been difficult at all. I'm AR 45, I was lucky to get Yelan on her latest rerun in only 30 wishes and I've been building her along Bennett, Xiangling and Jean (I got her on the selector). Combat only becomes difficult if a player does not invest properly in their characters or ascends the world level too quickly, both of which, I'd say, are the player's fault, not the game's. Having said that, I'm also someone who likes to check a lot of content online (like this video) to help me make the best decisions because in the end Genshin Impact is a resource management game.

One of my biggest pet peeve of genshin is those time when you're doing a quest and the npc says something but not during a dialogue. You'll be fighting mobs and stuff and the npc or paimon says something, the text for some unknown reason doesn't even have a darker background so you can't even see what the npc said, in voiced quest it's not too bad because you can hear it (unless you play the game in a different language) but since the overwhelming majority of quest are non voiced yeah it gets really annoying. I didn't understand the weather mechanic and I was in the pyro phase. I basically used Dehya to survive, because with her healing mechanic and the cooling pods in the corner she ha the best odds and my Beidou was down to like 300 health. Which meant I was sitting there biding my time waiting for Beidou's skill to get off cooldown so I could use it to slowly chip away at Signora since it did the most damage. But, like you said in the video: (along the lines of the enemy health scaling post Sumeru as well as post Neuvilette) I got BUTCHERED by almost every single enemy in the game once I hit level 45+ Even now, I still am consistently dying to the Asdaha and Arlecchino world bosses, as well as in artifact domains, mostly because I have little to no sustain as well as no efficient shielders (Being a low spender I cant roll for every character after all). I've hit a conundrum recently regarding Genshin's gameplay loop: I don't enjoy the game unless I'm building characters, but building characters is a huge pain in the ass. I recently got Xilonen and her weapon and as I was farming materials, I was having a good (enough) time. But once that wraps up, I'm just like "...Oh. That's the end of that, I guess." And yes - I frequently do Spiral Abyss and Imaginarium. They just don't do it for me. I also thought about making a new account to replay the game from the beginning, but that would also mean having to go through shit like the Aranara questline or other such nonsense like the Tatarasumi(sp?) quest that literally takes a week to get through because you can only do one part per day, not to mention not having some of my favorite characters immediately on-hand like Dehya or Candace, and that just completely deflates any potential enthusiasm I had for the idea. It sucked the first time, I doubt it's gonna suck any less the second.

You're totally right. I started as a mobile player, and did not like how you had to grind to a specific AR to continue the story. I got over this hurdle eventually (after a 6-month hiatus) but that initial AR grind was frustrating, especially on mobile.

My biggest recommendation is to take your time. Genshin shines when you do a quest a day or spend the day exploring an area. The AR lock for the AQ and characters is actually what made me stop at AR12 years ago. I'm heavy into the game now though.

So I started genshin back in January of 2024, and struggled so much with Kaeya as my DPS I stopped playing for like a month to play star rail. But by lantern rite I pulled Xiao and finally figured out the mechanics. I didn’t have a meta team by any means but I was fine in the overworld. I think it was when I got to Sumeru that I officially fell in love with Genshin. I did restart during the anniversary though because I wanted to take advantage of the free five star. Let me just say, early genshin was SO much easier with tighnari XD it was a little annoying to have to unlock Sumeru’s map so early to ascend him, but not terrible.

As someone who was a newbie and had no idea about anything about genshin , started playing from version 4.6 ( I wanted to play a anime type game and it was my first gacha game) , everything being told in this video is 100% accurate and relatable,.. I literally uninstalled genshin after 1 week of playing , then after touching some grass for 1 week I decided to gave genshin 1 more chance ....and here I am now , ar56 , love the story and fuck aranara quest ( I still haven't done full aranara quest) , for some reason I liked exploring in sumeru desert temples

I started playing Genshin two months ago, in the midst of the hype for the upcoming nation Natlan . fortunately, it didn’t take too long for me to get the hang of it and understand stuff . i had a lot of free time and literally two days before natlan came out, i was just finishing Fontaine (my favourite nation, btw.) currently i’m AR55 and have Kazuha & Kinich as my first two proper five stars . As much as i’ve thoroughly enjoyed my experience i relate to a lot of the problems you said here. But it’s also a relief to know that my struggles weren’t really a skill issue like i assumed . One thing i do like is how relatively easy it is to still wish for the five stars even if you don’t pay. i was concerned being f2p would mean i can’t get anyone cool, but as long as you spend adequate time earning primos it’s very within possibility to get five stars before their banners end and i appreciate that a lot
@Axterix13
@Axterix13 5 күн бұрын
Well... you're going to have to skip banners as a F2P, that much I can tell you. Right now, you have all those one time rewards, like exploration chests, quest rewards, the book thing, and so on. But eventually, you'll catch up to the now, and then you'll be left with dailies, events, and, currently, every other patch, a new area to explore. Basically, you'll be looking at one five feature banner five star per 3-4 banners. Mind you, you can get plenty of decent characters that way over time. Just try to avoid the impulse pull.
@quackquackx

@@Axterix13 I know that, i’ve already skipped most of the banners so far the reason why i have only two limited five stars is because those are the only two i have even attempted to pull for- im very selective and only get the ones i really really like , and spend the rest of the time saving. i’m skipping this banner AND the next one, too i’m not stupid ^^; i can’t possibly pull every banner, but i like that it’s possible at to pull any at all… that’s what i was trying to say So far, the only banners i have put everything i had in was Kazuha’s, where i came out with a c1 kazuha, and I just about managed to get kinich, sadly failed to get his weapon . Hey buddy! I started a few months ago and I LIKED Mondstadt and Liyre! I'm not sure where you're getting getting the Isekai stuff from (Personally don't remember the traveler getting hit by a truck) but for the starter quests it was entertaining. Inazuma sucks though, or like 85% of the middle of it does. Sorry Teppei was horribly handled no way you look at it. Maybe they should of made a actual character model and have them in the quest for longer than basecamp introductions. You're pretty spot on on everything else. Hell screw getting a 5 star infielder, Just getting a team of 4 stars with any sort of synergy was a crapshoot. I remember my first few pulls where Gaming, Freminet, Chungyun. I'm pretty sure the the game was going give me every four star male claymore user at one point. After getting pity Mualani (won the 50/50 by some grace of god), getting the (Genshin could never) free five star (Jean is bae btw), and getting my welfare Xiangling the games actually palpable.

Thank you for this video, interesting how you explained to us what this game is for new players

That last bit hit true for me. Just came back to the game after 3 years (was halfway through Inazuma when I stopped), and the only 5 star DPS on my account was Eula and yeah physical damage does not cut it like it did at earlier world levels. I got some better damage dealers since but the big hurdle is that I KNOW that I need better artifacts, but it's incredibly hard to get them, yet the best way to make even the lv 90 artifact domains easier is to, oh, get better artifacts. Shit. It took some time for the game to get comfortable again, that's for sure. I'm still playing on a reverted world level just so domains and bosses for materials and artifacts don't take 20 minutes to clear for 2 mats or 1 5 star artifact. Everything in Genshin is a much bigger time investment than say HSR or ZZZ where drop rates are similar but a single run takes 2 minutes or less.
@Axterix13
@Axterix13 5 күн бұрын
Domains aren't impacted by world level. They have a level all their own. That said, easiest way to deal with them, to get those initial artifacts is coop. That should get you your first DPS geared, and from that point on, you should be good to go.

My mindset when it comes to the world quests is I try to engage with them and understand what’s going on since mashing through them could potentially mean missing out on a good story, which I don’t want to end up regretting later on. Oftentimes I find myself actually getting invested in the plot and wanting to read the dialog even if I wasn’t really in the mood or expecting to enjoy it, and I ended up actually liking the aranara quest despite the infamy. That being said though, I still wish the big, multi-hour long world quests were voiced.

Been there and tried it but good hyperbloom teams aren’t available until Sumeru. All dendro characters require something from sumeru to fully level up and all need the Scaramouche drop for talents. The other characters that also work towards hyperbloom are not available until Inazuma for most of them and the worst thing is getting characters from banners. And because of resin being time gated you can’t just speedrun trough character farming effectively to get a viable DPS that will get you trough the content. I just recently swapped out my Lumine for a Keqing cause of the 5 star selector because even has a new player farming for primos is just that painful that i 100% Mondstadt and Natlan and only pulled for two 5 stars. And guess what with the new endgame content basically being filler for old players and the spiral abyss requiring 2 built teams the farming won’t get better for a while. And don’t get me started on the combat events where the difficulty is so high no matter the world level that you might as well not even play cause you won’t get any primos anyway. With that you must prioritize the characters you actually want but if you want Furina and did not do Sumeru you have to take into account that she won’t be fully built and that means completely useless for a while. And well just knowing that Sumeru will take you hours to get done doesn’t really help. They just recently added solutions for farming as a new player with the quick combat against bosses you haven’t unlocked and the unlocked teleport points but even that isn’t enough for new players to catch up to old ones. You either play for only the story or you spend the next year just trying to catch up enough to appreciate the rest.

I just started playing this game last month. I actually create my account back during Inazuma hype, but got bored at the end of prologue act 1, quitting at just AR 7. I got back because of the natlan hype and oh boy I just realized how fun this game is actually is, exploration wise. Though after finishing Inazuma, I've lost interest on the main story. Partly because how the story feel lackluster in the archon quest, especially after the rebellion act and how they decided to end the Inazuma archon story. Not to mention how Genshin story always seems to tell but not show, like how they use simple to no animation at all when a character supposedly do something (they just stand there), or how they just pop a text with a black background saying things like "You tell them about ...", "You and Paimon do ...", or "NPC goes to do ...". It felt really lazy and boring for a game at this size to have a "Visual Novel" kind of interaction during a character conversation.

The amount of grinding makes me crazy not only because of exploration/chests/puzzles. There is another thing that is much heavier, namely the characters' ascending materials. When you are a new player, you need to build 6-8 characters at once, meaning you need resources for all of them. Blocking the main story behind the adventure rank doesn`t bother you much, cause you simply don`t have time for quests. When farming takes so much time, it is hard to enjoy the game. As for quest backlog - I see it in a better perspective. The more quests means you can enjoy your time in the game longer. Now, with AR59 and all map 100% closed, I have nothing more to do in Genshin, and this is sad. I get new characters but can`t even use them. In general, it seems almost all new player problems caused by the 4-year gap since the game release. The content is too easy for long-time players, but too hard for newcomers. It is really hard to balance even with world-levels.

It's good you mention how difficult this game is for newbies. I would know I started in 3.4. They always say "Oh it's so easy". Yes, it is. As soon as you know everything and have everything... My advice for newbies would be: Stay away from the ascension quest until combat in your world feels trivial.

I understand where your coming from with the story being locked behind exploration. I mean it makes sense that they want you to explore in an open world game. True privilege of old players: they don't remember Inazuma. I started at inazuma (2.2, still not much to do) and story quests took me 4 months (very relaxed pace) before I even touched gacha. Granted, I didn't have a problem with gameplay and could rely on my friends (because they were interested and I was interested myself). I didn't have FOMO and that's possibly the important part. But not having FOMO going into gacha game is hella difficult, and when someone near me says something along the lines of "man i might get into genshin in the future" (for story or character-related reasons) I remember those aranaras who I quite frankly didn't care for anymore, and reply "yeah, there's many silent walkthroughs on yt, included time-gated content". Sad. But hey, genshin doesn't have a stellar reputation among gamers and other ppl, so maybe it's cool.

Ngl, Aranara questline is a real test of patience when it comes to genshin, i honestly couldn't finish it(i did almost every quest in the game), because it's litterally too much! For me it's good that hoyo changed this trend and new fontaine and natlan quest were "regional"(small and focused around one smaller region(not the entire fricking sumeru forrest, which is bigger than fuckin monstad and lyiue combined)). Sumeru forrest is just too big to do in one go, and grinding through this region at once is just a waste of time, its whole better wexperience to progress throught it slowly. And unpopular opinion: in comparison to sumeru forest, sumeru desert was actually goated, especially when it comes to world quests. They are really interesting(especially jett's questline) and exploration isn't that bad, except places like mausoleum. Desert is also unexpectedly varied in comparison to forrest that is almost the same everywhere(apart from some locations).
