@@vinangelo9056 the whole storyline was about shaking Xiao out of this survivors' guilt mentality and needing 'a warrior' s death'. The whole ethos of Zhongli as a leader is tough love. He will let his people and children fight their own battles to harden themselves for the unfair and ruthless world. But will never let anyone know he himself is ready to raise his shields and protect them from the worst of the worst. Even retired he is duty bound to be the last resort for his people. But ONLY, the last resort. Liyue would fall if its people became soft (hard lessons from the Qing Dynasty). He's my favourite archon for a reason. As a note: I think only Yanfei, Yelan & Xiao's efforts brought them close enough to the reality plane for ZL to detect their location & save everyone. Memes aside, ZL likely felt Xiao expend the rest of his energy to teleport others, but could not feel his last living Yaksha getting closer to him. Hence the save.

​@@eyyydiwaaw7990 Probably not, while Venti is the weakest Archon of the current Seven, he is STILL an Archon, just not as strong as he used to be, he can still beat Xiao if he wanted to, he is stronger than he looks. The only reason why he didn't fight back against Signora is because he knew Signora, in fact he adored her before the Cataclysm happened. He probably trusts the Tsaritsa as they were very close friends before the Cataclysm happened, so he just let his Gnosis be taken away.

Also when they were going out, the souls of the millelith from 500 years ago was trying to stop them as it was their duty to let nothing alive out of the depth of the chasm.

Yelan's expression is what hits me the most in this scene. Yes I know Xiao falls and accepts his 'death' but the fact that Yelan looked shocked as she saw him and reached out, she realized what he was doing, and her knowing she can't do anything when she didn't want him to be sacrificed and just the fact that she was worried and looked at him with the face that's just screaming "No!" before she got teleported tied the knot together. It made the entire idea of Xiao almost dying and him really sacrificing himself sink in all the more deeper into my mind. I cried so much during this.

Despite being much younger than Xiao, I think Yelan is more emotionally mature. She's also very good at reading other people, and realized the ton of trauma he carries. For most of the quest, she was trying to help him, even when she was harsh with him. If they meet again in game, I can see her assuming a bit of a big sister role towards him, much like Beidou did with Kazuha.

@@byeetch Oh no I agree that both have the blunt and truthful personality while still being badass- but obviously there are still differences between them. I'm assuming the other person just said what's coming off of the top of their heads. Yelan quite clearly shows friendliness despite her being blunt, and doesn't mind working with people. Xiao on the other hand has always preferred being alone and thinks it's better if he doesn't interact with anyone and would try to come off as rude to push someone away. It is disappointing how so many people would push a certain stereotype onto a character just for one thing that they do though- like Xiao as an emo boy and Diluc as a tsundere when there is more to them.

The whole quest chain was great but I absolutely adored this cutscene in particular. Xiao being totally epic and finally FINALLY we see Zhongli interacting with one of the other immortals and it's acknowledged they know who he is, how long I've yearned for something like this. And then his saving of Xiao after his noble sacrifice... it was just absolute perfection. This is a prime example of why you are so successful with this game

There's so many comments about Xiao coming to Chasm to die and meet his fate really breaking me. You all missing the point here, he didn't go there to die at all, he only wanted to find out what happened to the last remaining family member as it felt like a thorn in his heart. He even picked up a rock from Chasm for his memorial, HE WAS READY TO RETURN TO SURFACE with everyone. In the end he still had to throw the idea of hope and his survival and as people say meet his twisted fate. He wouldn't have died immediately in the Chasm either, he probaby would have suffered there for decades until he would actually really die. When he was saved by Zhongli, he told traveler everything about the Yakshas, he was leaving his history for someone to tell in case something like this happen again. This boy deserves more credit than people give him 🥺

It's giving Alice's "there's a yaksha in Wangshu Inn and I'm curious" to calling him a weirdo looking her way as she's leaving. Even among Xiao mains, you see this, he literally has his story told to you. Imagine having your innocence and purity taken from you as a child (reason why he's short), get saved after so much corruption so the only thing you can do is defend your nation away from everything and everyone and have a karmic debt that eats you slowly every day for thousands of years. Easiky one of the most interesting playable characters.

I think he has a complicated relationship with death, part of him probably really wants peace and I think he feels it looming over his head so much that more often than not he’s just ready to succumb to it as the path of least resistance (like in this moment) but there’s always that tiny bit of hope and the desire to live on in him too. xiao’s character is def one of the best in genshin for me

When I first saw xiao I really liked his design and I didn't like much of his character, then after reading and understanding his lore he deserved to be emo and he became my favorite character as a whole, maybe If i didn't get spoiled abt "zhongli saving xiao" part I might have been happy and sad at the same time becoz xiao will finally have peace and go with his friends and at the same time I would have missed him. A part of me wished he died and get his final rest and say" U did well hero, we will always remember you" but at the same time I don't want that too happen and be free from his karma and enjoy life. I will never understand what they were thinking when they did it and I will never forgive who's responsible for this mess. not hating on the va, she does a great job, I just don't think it was the right choice for him, it doesn't suit his character at all and he just sounds annoying and cringe all the time. This is the third time Traveller has shown sensitivity/headaches due to strong emotions/god power. When the platform cracked, I thought everyone would just put their hands together and the “power of friendship” would pull them out of the crisis. Boi i wasn’t ready for that plot development later. The ending is not only impactful, but also makes sense from a storytelling standpoint. We knew Xiao had already made up his mind when he asked about “will”; it was revealed that Xiao informed Zhongli about his trip to the Chasm. Those Hollywood playwrights should take notes, especially those who wrote the new Star Wars trilogy.

This chapter was a great first step towards Xiao's healing. Finding closure in Bosacius's disappearance, realizing that self-sacrifice is not the answer to everything, and slowly accepting that his life has value and many others would have felt devastated if he were gone were essential to Xiao's growth. I know it always seemed like he had death flags all around him, but his story is actually about him dealing with the scars from his past and his survivor's guilt as the last yaksha standing. His story is all about him learning how to live again, after everything that has happened and after all the loss and grief that he had to endure. From Xiao's namecard, we know his one true wish is not death but to be free, to wear his mask not to slaughter demons but to dance in a field of flowers. All he wants is peace. It was nice seeing him bring his walls down just a little bit, and I'm excited as to what Hoyo has in store for him. You guys keep outdoing yourselves, thank you for a wonderful story.

I wanna imagine the next Lantern Rite, Xiao visiting Pervases' temple, even the chasm or the place where we've opened the treasure in the world quest "A yaksha's Wish" or something like that, in remembrance of Bosacius. And after that, finally joining the feast at Wangshu Inn, as in sitting down with other folks around the table. This would be a great scene in the Lantern Rite as it shows Xiao's character progression and healing, just like what you have summarized. ❤

I cried at this. Just sat in my room staring at screen through this because it was beyond beautiful. The showcase of all the characters abilities there, the expression when Xiao decided to sacrifice himself and the expression when Yelan figured out what he was doing, the music or lack thereof in that scene, the way he closed his eyes, the flashbacks throughout the whole thing that really told the story, the closure of it all for all the characters. It was something else. Props to everyone who worked on this; it’s wonderful.

3:18 i'm so glad they gave this emotion to yelan instead of the traveller. she's often potrayed as a smart witted woman who doesn't show much emotion but i'm glad they showed her vulnerable side as well. She and xiao are pretty similar, they both lost comrades due to self sacrifice but the difference is xiao believes he has to die just like how they did while she believes she has to live because of their deaths.

i really loved that the quest showed different sides to them rather than just one "trait". yangei is smart yes but also optimistic and encouraging. the traveler well we know the traveler. itto is an idiot but has a pure soul n wants to see every1 smiling. yelan is no nonsense and a boss but genuinely cares nonetheless. shinobu is reliable and organised but gets fussy over others easily too

As someone who loves the genshin lore, I agree that it's lore is pretty depressing considering the archon war, destruction of khaenriah, durin vs dvalin, Diluc's past, traveler's separation from their sibling etc. However Mihoyo had never shown an actual cutscene which included a character's sacrifice or their near death experience till now, and that is why it came as a shock to most of the players

I expected him to die so he could finally find peace, but Mihoyo surprised me by not killing him! The conclusion, about changing your perspective on life, was excellent! You're never alone, and it's acceptable to feel alone since there's always someone who can help. Don't give up on life because someone hasn't given up on you yet. Killing oneself doesn't stop the agony, but it does pass it on to someone else, and I'm sure Xiao knows that very well :(

If his People didn't make it then he has no choice but turn the tides into petrified waters. This time, he knows Xiao went Insane. Rex Lapis don't want to lost another comrade. He already lost a bunch of them while he was fighting in the war including Havria and Guizhong. He is real Chad like when your Father let's you learn about smthn until you messed up then he will help and protect you.

I swear I always come back to watch this cutscene and I always loved the character development in this quest from Yelan and Xiao. The fact that at first Yelan was super salty to Xiao and basically attacking him to her reaching her hand out to him before they teleport back to the surface at 3:17. I love them so much.

I genuinely love how Xiao still sees zhongli as rex lapis even though Technically as a yaksha He is now an upper rank than zhongli, since zhongli is now a mere mortal. But even so Xiao still respect the all mighty "rex lapis"

One of the things I really love about this cutscene is the usage of instrumentation and themes. I’m only a music student who’s beginning studies but even with such a rudimentary understanding, I can gain further appreciation for the amount of work put into the soundtrack. There’s the low brass when Xiao says his General Alatus line near the 0:50 second mark. From what I know, low brass is strongly associated with royalty and military alongside other things(which is a reason why the Kujou camp in Kannazuka has such prominent brass). Next, as Yelan uses her Lifeline to fight the spirits, the recurring theme that’s been running in many trailers and battle themes begins to play for only a few seconds before returning to the piece and developing it further. The music gets more tense that throughout the rising of the elevator when the red spirits, what I assume are manifestations of Xiao’s karma, start appearing, and Xiao’s variation on that battle theme mentioned with Yelan that shows up in his trailer plays at around 1:50 for only a few seconds as well. They’re such passing moments but they still incorporate these recognizable themes in the background without feeling too on the nose. Genshin’s music is absolutely one of if not my favourite aspect of the game, and why I adore this game as much as I do. I’m grateful for the team at Hoyoverse and all the effort from everyone involved in Genshin. Edit: after listening to Xiao’s trailer again to refresh my memory, I realized that at around 2:00 the rhythmic pattern the piano is playing is the same as the one in Xiao’s trailer, just in a different key. I could be wrong on that one, but it achieves a similar effect. What I do know for sure is that at around the 2:07 mark, a different theme from the Xiao trailer starts playing. It begins in the Xiao demo around the 1 minute mark, when the red ropes string Xiao up. It’s amazing hearing all these details and call backs to the trailers and developing themes, like Zhongli’s character demo theme showing up in the Like a Dragon cutscene at the end of his story quest with Azdaha.
