As a fellow English man you are a credit to our country. At 65 I am still trying and still learning to be a gentleman. I have an extensive collection of suits of which only a select few I can wear due to recent weight gain. I’m turning 60 this year. Fulfilling the need (or want) for more suits in my current size, I explored eBay. Most of the suits that are listed are by people who have worn them only a few times and are in like new condition. I have been able to pick up really great looking Ralph Lauren, Hart Schaffner & Marx, and Brooks Brothers suits for under $100 with just a couple needing minor alterations. My wife’s favorite of my suits now is a Glen Plaid Ralph Lauren that fits like it was tailored for me. Thought I would share in case others find themselves in the same boat. Thank you for these videos. I enjoy every one.

Something else I would like to add to the question about fighting; As someone who has done martial arts since I was 4 I can tell you that, fundamentally, martial arts (every form of it) is all about respect and integrity, those are the 2 most important things in regards to martial arts and the physical side of it is solely for self defense.

I am 63. I I watch your videos because I have always had an interest, and for the most part have lived it, in your subject matter. I also am more comfortable with people such as we, thus a connection is formed. My early years were influential - attending a quality Catholic grade school, after which, the Jesuit founded (1869) Canisius High School, Buffalo, NY. Another reason I enjoy your videos, and sad it is - gentlemen and ladies are not as prevalent. Such is why I fully enjoy the Classic movies, which along with your videos are a respit from the boorish that awaits me when I cross my front door stoop into a classless society, So, carry on, all around your videos are fantastic, and importantly indeed, you're doing a much needed service not only for men, but also for women directly and indirectly. Post Script : I believe Courage - the now rarest of the important traits of mankind - will be a wonderful topic someday for a video. I imagine that it would take some preparation, but what worthwhile doesn't ? Cheers to you and your audience.

I am a 78 year old lady who enjoys listening to your videos. It's great that you are out to educate young men about being gentlemen. Bravo! I do wish to differ about hats, though. Stylish fedoras are always in style. They can make men look very sexy and I'm sorry they are not generally in style anymore. I live in a hot weather country and occasionally I see men in straw fedoras. If a man has the type of head that wears a hat well, it can be a chick magnet, so I wouldn't rule that type of hat out. But, please, no baseball caps, especially worn backwards or sideways. To me that spells, Super Jerk. I feel like I'm crying in the dark when I go on the defense of fedoras... but, gentlemen, do consider it! -- Thanks for your excellent videos, James! Wishing you great success with them!

I like this video a lot! There’s so much I could say here because you mentioned a lot of interesting things. For me I got interested in being a “gentleman” also because of clothes. I loved how I felt in nice clothes as a kid and I too would dress up a notch above my peers in college at times. Now I dress up more. I love watching old videos of cities from USA 1950s or so and I like how well everyone seemed to dress, how clean the cars were, and how polite people seemed to be. In my own way I try to bring that to the world when I go out in public.

The colour was neutral, the car was always kept clean and tidy, and wearing a suit to work each day while shifting gears made it feel to me like a truly classy ride. Most classic British or German cars from the 60’s 70’s and 80’s are the best cars. I don’t think modern cars can be gentlemanly because a lot of them are automatic and they all have pointless gadgets and sensors on them. A Daimler or a Wolseley 16/60 is a good gentlemanly car. I have a 1970 600bhp fully mechanical diesel Mercedes w109 and a bmw e28 and a vw mk2 jetta, these are fun to drive and have little to no electrics to worry about breaking

Congratulations on the success of your channel! You're correct, Jaguar, Alfa and Mercedes (include BMW in that list) all start to become money pits at about 10 years old. Lexus also has other models than the ES, if one wants something more sporty then the IS350 is the ticket, or for something larger and more stately the GS350 like mine. They will run well past the 200,000 mile mark if kept maintained, but those two have more preformance-oriented engines that require premium fuel. The ES runs on regular, that could be a factor the way gas prices are nowadays. The Infiniti Q series with the twin-turbocharged V6 looks and runs great also, but bear in mind that the turbos could cause issues as they get older, and Nissan and Infiniti's quality has been slipping of late.

Great video, James. I watch all of your videos and really enjoy the calming, relaxing nature of them. I think you could create a Skool community for a small monthly cost of $5 - $10. A free Discord is a good idea, but as the channel grows it will inevitably descend into chaos and die out. A paid community with weekly meetings, advice, live streams would be great. You could go through where you get your clothes from, tips, interviews with tailors, businessmen, and other KZbinrs who are similar to you. If we're paying for the community, we're more likely to value it and savour the experience. Keep it up and congrats on 65k!

To add: One way to ruin your gentlemanly image is a messy or smelly car. It's not a great look when you offer someone a ride but they first need to clear all the stuff off the seat before they can sit. Even worse: trash on the floor. As an American, I am apalled at the way I see men and women dressing day to day. I give you a lot of credit for explaing the need to present yourself well. Respect for others begins with awareness and respect for ourselves. I think that we need dress codes so ordinary people can begin to wake themselves up. I was in a dentist office in the waiting room for one and one half hours. The lack of respect for my time, the cell phone conversations that everyone could hear, the skin tight yoga pants almost made me sick. I see the same kinds of disrespectful things in the local geocery stores. Didn't Rodney Dangerfield talk about no respect? All I can do about it is be an example of kindness, patience, respect and good grooming. Thank you for your efforts to "save America".
@pensivepenguin30003 ай бұрын
One thing we don’t want to let ourselves become is judgmental, cynical and bitter about the people around us. This is not a healthy mindset nor a particularly gentlemanly perspective. Remember that everybody has different priorities, and for many people, just being comfortable is what they care about most. That’s OK. It doesn’t mean that they are bad people. All we can do is focus on ourselves. I like to think that by caring about my appearance, showing some grace and humility, and being kind to other people I’m modeling the kinds of behaviors I hope to see more of in society

I’ve really been enjoying your channel since I discovered it a couple months ago. Congratulations on your success-well deserved. It was interesting to learn a little more about you here. I have to disagree on the hat topic. It’s important to protect yourself against the sun, plus a hat is just practical for keeping the sun out of your eyes and the rain off your head. I wore ball caps for many years but since I started trying to dress better and improve my style, I have switched to flat caps. I love the look and as I walk around I notice more and more men wearing them; they look way classier than a ball cap. I also have a light woven Trilby that is great for hot sunny days and looks very stylish. I don’t think hats are dead, they just had a bit of a setback.

Black or dark blue are the only correct colours for cars. In a European country, a gentleman drives a new, well-groomed VW Golf. Mercedes and BMWs are for wide boys. Japanese imports are for middle managers who are comfortable with their conformist status in life and who do not dream of another life. "Old money" will drive some beaten up old thing that they inherited from their grandparents because paying for the maintenance of their estate bleeds them dry. A young gentleman is always understated, hence the VW Golf.

You are a good presenter and are providing a useful service to all men who wish to be gentlemen. However, I disagree with your assessment of the fedora. In the movie Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones, (Harrison Ford) is on the steps of a government building wearing a blue double breasted suit, and a gray fedora. In my opinion he looks very classy. (Check it out) I enjoy the old movies with Humphrey Bogart and others like him wearing a hat. For me it makes them look complete. Also a newsboy cap or flat cap can look good on a gentleman as well. A medical doctor once said people should wear wide brim hats and sun glasses to protect themselves from the sun, when out doors. I wear a fedora or flat hat in the winter as I am bald and need the protection then as well. Sometimes a baseball cap or sock cap just won't do. Also remember how pretty Princess Diana and Princess Kate looked in hats. Maybe ladies should consider hats as well. Thank you for making such good presentations I have learned a great deal. I am seventy years old and for me, being a gentleman has been a journey rather than a destination. I learn something new every day.

Not every old luxury car is or becomes a lemon. The prior owners of these type of cars tend to take good care of their vehicles. I have a 2001 S series Mercedes convertible that I bought used when it was at 7 years old. I really haven't invested much in maintenance and still am driving it today. I do understand it's a summer car and hasn't seen rain, but most of these cars depreciate fast and become bargains.

Great video! As for vehicles especially when you are younger dont go big and fancy. Get something that'll take no tine to pay off and cheap for maintenance. Keep it clean running good!! I dated lawyers when i was younger when i drove a 20 plus old truck, even a van at on point and 9 times out of 10 they asked to take my vehicle. 🤷♂️ One thing i disagree about is a good hat. They are in style always have and always will be. Just stay away for the baseball hat if you are trying to dress up at all! A quality fedora, flat cap even a cowboy hat will give your outfit/ look that extra touch. A quality hat will take confidence to wear at fisrt but will soon add to your confidence. The most important part is to learn & remember hat etiquette!! I definitely agree about social media. Its a brain drain and can back fire on you quickly. Even if you are joking it can be taking the wrong way years later and then you have to deal with it. 🤷♂️ Enjoyed the video, thank you again for your time. Cheers, beers and whiskey 🤠 🥃

James just doesn´t want to offend anybody I guess, but listening to gangster or hip hop music, is not a proper choice. Just think about it. This kind of music is not classical at all and it has often tendency to be negative, so no way it does match life of a gentleman. It is out of question, if you want to become a real gentleman and not some kind of hybrid. Gangters are bad people and no gentleman wants to be a gangster or other stupid morron. Speaking of classic music, jazz or piano kind of style is the way to go for example. Learn to listen to those, if you want to become high class gentleman without any compromise. Don´t want to offend anybody, but trust me, that my advice is wise. Living life of a gentleman means, that the whole culture matches this life, so nice clothing, nice music, nice behaviour, nice car, quality relationships and other stuff. I know, it is not easy for a lot of people, but I am just saying, what it takes to be an ultimate gentleman. Have a nice day James and all the others
